So I just noticed you are doing this talk with Oliver both in German and in English, great! You really are going the extra mile, and this episode is very informative of the practical aspects. 90% of the sailing channels only seem to focus on bikinis instead of sailing nowadays, keep up the good work!

Another great production Martin. I am beginning to consider crossing the Atlantic. You answered my first question, “What part of the year is the best time to cross?” January to April...statistically! My next question will be, when is the best time to travel from Northern Ireland to the Canary Islands! Inspiring and very pleasant to watch your videos. Thank you.

Thank you! I would think the best time to sail from Northern Ireland to the Canaries would be in the summer June to August. Cork might be the last stop and then sailing via Madeira. Best regards 😀⛵⛵

Hey Martin. Really enjoying your professional video's with great help. Like your Bavaria 34 foot sailboat, as I'm a tall sailor what is the headroom of this Bavaria ? would it be workable as I'm 1,96 cm to sail long distances with a 34 foot ? thanks in advance

Thank you! The hight under deck is about 1.85 to 1.9 cm. If I am you I would go for the convinient headroom above 2.0 m. I.e. some Bavaria 36 have that. 😀⛵⛵

I’m watching this in reverse so congratulations on your solo trans-Atlantic. How did your neighbour get on in the Hanse? I had assumed trans-Atlantic sailors would need downwind sails but he appeared to only have the small self-tacking jib.

Unfortunately, Oliver has not made it. He had to leave and sink his ship in the middle of the Atlantic due to technical problems. But he got rescued by another sailing yacht.

@@yannisbio Water got into the vessel via the fastening screws of the windvane control, which had come loose. Oliver thinks a collision could be to blame. Then his autopilot failed. The bilge pump on Plan B was in an awkward position, so the water just sloshed past the pump and he spent half the day pumping it away by hand. He couldn’t repair or seal the leak. In the end, after a few days, he had to make the difficult decision to give up.
