I like the clear explanation of your course planning. Detailed even down to the best sun aspect/tide arrival window.

Brilliant 👍🏻 Scene safety as always with proper planning & common sense. Thank you for sharing this golden knowledge. I feel like a crew member with captain's route briefing watching your video's from a small diesel camper 4x4 in San Diego on this full moon afternoon. You folks are just awesome! Sending fair wind's & magical full moon luminous seas & safety as always 👍🏻🐬🐬💫

This is an excellent tutorial on how a modern sailor makes use of internet weather forecasts and satellite imagery to optimize a voyage. Your strategies for safely visiting “the Dangerous Archipelago” are must viewing for all cruising sailors. Thank you for taking the time to make a video sharing your expertise.

Really liked your detail about Weather 4D and navigation. I've watched it about 3 times now. Think I will get it myself. All your videos are interesting, informative but simple.

Awesome thanks 🙏 you can download weather4D free version and it still allows you to use it but only with the GFS model which will give you a good idea of whether it fits your needs or not then you can decide if you want to pay for the full version 👍

Thanks mate just trying to share what we’ve learnt over the years and now with the weather routing apps and starlink it’s really becoming easier and safer 👍🙏

That was excellent! Thank you. Any chance you could chat about how you arrange your watch schedule as a couple? Thanks again and safe travels.

Thanks 🙏 and yep I’ve mentioned our watches in past videos. We normally do weird ones that are long. We enjoy getting good sleep and find shorter watches don’t allow for it. I normally do from 2am until 6pm and Clo does 6pm to 2am however during the day once she’s up I have moments where she’ll hold the watch for me so I can do other things and visa versa. We’re pretty flexible when it comes to our watches. Some people love two on two off but we just don’t find we get the rest we need especially on long passages.

I would definitely take a while to get my head around all that,it’s very interesting,and it’s great that so many more recourses are becoming available to make passages safer and more predictable.Best wishes 🙂

Yeah there’s a bit there and with so much data on hand these days it’s endless what can be integrated to help make navigation and passages safer. Many thanks 🙏

Fantastic presentation Jason. I am currently on a cruising cat in Indonesia. Using Opencpn, with satellite overlays, on and Android tablet. This works Ok, but it is a bit cumbersome and slightly crippled on functionality compared to the full Windows version. I see that you are an Apple guy. Is your nav laptop Apple or Windows or? Just love your technical posts (as well as the sailing ones of course! )
@TrimaranSpiritXL5 ай бұрын
Hi Graham glad to hear you enjoyed it. We used ovitalmap on IOS when we sailed through SE Asia and also OpenCPN but I have to say having the starlink these days is making it even easier. We do use Apple and the OpenCPN is running on my MacBook, which we really use as a backup the iPad is our main go to for route planning as it does so much so easily. Thanks for your comment 🙏

thanks for the video, I was wondering if it was possible to do a video showing how the radar, AIS and wind instrumentation all hook up to this?
@LoanwordEggcorn5 ай бұрын
Typically there's a wifi gateway from the boat network to laptops/tablets/phones. Radar usually stays on the chartplotter due to higher data rates. (AIS and instruments are on the boat network.)
@TrimaranSpiritXL5 ай бұрын
Yep that’s pretty much how it’s done 👍 I’ll do a video walk through of our setup in a future video.
@LoanwordEggcorn5 ай бұрын
Very practical explanations. Thanks! Have you tried the OpenCPN weather routing plugin? Presumably it's not as good as some of the commercial solutions, but nice to have it integrated.
@TrimaranSpiritXL5 ай бұрын
Welcome 🙏 and yes we have but the iPad is our main go to as it does so much more and so easily I also prefer weayher4D over every other program and app we have. It’s just simple, powerful and offers loads of data and is very intuitive to use.

Not asking for a long review, but how is Weather4D better than something like Predictwind?
