I agree with the comment about looking at waterline length and not just overall size. Also, for the Bahamas and Caribbean, blue water boats are definitely not what you want - agree that its rear cockpits, swim platforms etc. But, just like the waterline discussion, take a look at the swim platform. Some are quite lengthy - taking away precious living space. Our friends had Beneteau 37 - it has a very deep platform versus the one on our Catalina 380. Our boat felt as if she had more like 5 feet of extra interior space versus the 1 foot overall length label.

My daughter and her husband moved to PR last year and bought a boat. She's visiting and we're watching your videos (of course)... and we see her boat at 2:30 😁

Yeah, some good points for sure; but, as far as buying in the Caribbean...I mean, if you go online and look for boats there, very few listings come up and of those that do most are in the very high price range. Maybe I'm missing something.

I know he went over length But I know some some people that have still be your head issues with their beam Because their boat was so Wide They had to get a more expensive slip I was wondering is Too wide in the caribbeans and at what beam that's Starts to play factory Thanks for the Video I've had neighbors here in the Florida keys the bottom boat that was 2" to wide for their slip they own They can even Doc their boat in their own slip

How often do people use marinas down there? I would think unless it’s a your boat going to sink situation that you wouldn’t be at a marina. I’m currently looking at 30 to 36 sailing vessels like Catalina 30 or Pearson 34. Are hunter sail boats any good? I see a lot of them for sale.
@ChasingLatitudes3 жыл бұрын
It just depends, you can anchor out but at some point you will be in marinas so this is more for long term budget sailing is all
@bobcampbell30123 жыл бұрын
Reallly like what your doing. When you're done in the Caribbean could you start a series on buying used charter boats and sailing the Mediterranean?

What if you think you will spend about 3-5 years exploring the Caribbean, then hope to "spread your wings" so to speak. I am having a hard time thinking I should buy a temporary boat. How much money will be lost selling the first boat, then buying a boat to cross oceans? I understand the premise of this video, just want your opinion. Thanks in advance.
@ChasingLatitudes3 жыл бұрын
No need to sell the first one, just buy the right one to start, production vessels are more than capable of crossing oceans. More beneteaus cross oceans than any other vessels. Just pick a boat you can grow into vs out of, ill be live streaming tomorrow so feel free to pop in an I can chat a bit more in depth 😉
@markusveracity28653 жыл бұрын
I would much rather anchor, or at least moor, than get a slip. I’m not disagreeing with the valid points you present (well done) but I’m boggled by the premise that marinas are something besides a place to be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
@ChasingLatitudes3 жыл бұрын
I agree, sometimes however you're forced to snag a slip, emergency repair, picking up family thats meeting you and won't do a dingy ride, hiding from a storm last minute, family emergency might cause an extended stay at a marina, or occasionally just to be "fancy" 🤣
@MiQBohlin3 жыл бұрын
Wow, this is really something to consider… What would the LOA measures of a vessel with a moving Jibboom be? As it is when retracted or in it's full length? I would hope it is charged as the verified measure of the LOA with the Jibboom retracted…
@ChasingLatitudes3 жыл бұрын
When retracted :)
@MiQBohlin3 жыл бұрын
My guess is that not every marina would be cool with that? Then the term would be "LAS" Length at slip 😉
