SV Holiday takes a side trip from our journey up the ICW to head out to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. We stay a week at anchor in Silver Lake on Ocracoke. Lots of sailing and hanging out at the beach!

Thank-you for sharing your sailing experiences in the Pamlico Sound. I would like to do it, but on a smaller boat.

What month of the year did you make this trip?
@Funonholiday Жыл бұрын
We did it in June

Thanks. I thought May and June might be ideal. I suspect July and August might be too hot for sailing this area.

My most memorable cruise was to Silver lake. We also went to Manteo in the Albemarle sound. I hope yall have the time to stop there too. We've been from Key west to the Outter Banks and I must say we Love NC better. The Little towns are great and Cheap to explore.

Hoping to hit Manteo on the way back south when we do the Virgina Cut route.

Nice videos! I have a question (not criticism!). At around 4:30 when you only have headsail out it looks like your wheel is steering to port. On most boats I have sailed with only headsail out on SB tack the wind will push the bow to port so the wheel will typically be pushing boat a bit to SB to compensate. Curious what is happening on your boat then unless rudder position on wheel is off. Thanks.

You are correct. We have a little weather helm which is a boat's tendency to try to steer into the wind. So, on a starboard tack, the boat is pulling slightly to starboard where the wind is coming from, and we have to steer to port slightly to compensate. It's somewhat typical and not undesirable to have a little weather helm. Too much though would be bad. Hope I explained that well. Thanks for watching!

Thanks- what is weird to me is that usually most boats (mine included) can have a lot of weather helm with the main sail up (since wind on aft end of boat will tend to rotate bow into the wind. But with only headsail up as in your video it seems odd to have any weather help since forces on sail tend to rotate bow away from the wind. Not a big deal but just struck me as odd. BTW my boat (a Sabre) is a similar design to yours Tartan.
