Hi Lauren & Kirk, I started following y'all when you where traveling on the river, watch more videos while on the gulf. It brought up lots of questions in my mind, so I decided to start at the beginning, hopefully to find out more about how y'all got interested in sailing and your experience! I loved this video!! Congratulations!! Wonderful day yes!! You both where so excited and happy!! Look forward to the next chapter in the story!! I also want to say that the quality of the videos are just wonderful, like watching a movie! Y'all do a wonderful job!! Keep in smiling and dreaming, so glad y'all found each other, your a wonderful couple!!! BTW, one day when I finish restoring my 1981 Falmouth Cutter, I would like to send y'all a shutterfly album of the before and after and the story of HONU! Fair winds!!! Doug

I'm impressed. I don't like the potential for trouble of a keel/centerboard; but when they're working properly they're great. Guess I just like simplicity...but hey! It takes all kinds of boats to make the world spin 'round. I'm envious of you guys.

That was delightful. You've bought wisely and your enthusiasm was a joy to witness. The video was very good indeed and I particularly liked your choice of music - low key yet pleasant. Ive watched a half dozen or so of your videos. It's inspiring watching you two really love and enjoy your boat. You two have a beautiful boat and really do the work to make sure she stays that way. Its awesome that you are truly doing the stuff that people talk about, but never really do it. Knowing what you know now, is there anything about Soulianis that you don't like with regard to its safety or sailing capabilities? It appears to be the perfect boat for the money.
@SailingSoulianis4 жыл бұрын
Wow, thank you! It is/was a great boat for the money. One thing for me (Kirk) and this is a personal preference that divides sailors, is that the boat can sink. I'd like my next boat to be unsinkable. This isn't necessarily a flaw with the Tartan specifically, but one of the fundamental ideological differences in the multi/mono debate.

Theres nothing that can describe the excitement of buying a boat of this caliber. Its obvious that your 37 was well loved and taken care of. I love the classic lines and though my adventures were not as ambitious as yours, I can say I have had 24 years of great memories on her. She is in the water as we speak, and ready to go on the first warm day I choose. Good luck with your Tartan 37, She is a beautiful boat, and one I have always admired. Congratulations folks for joining the Tartan crew. I have owned hull #373 for 26 years and sailed her extensively on both US coasts and sailed her from SF Bay through Central America on a two year journey to Maine via the Panama Canal. You have bought a stellar example of one of the sweetest sailing vessels available. It also appears yours is has been exceptionally maintained and you got it for a disturbingly low price. I would urge you to be cautious in modifying her or adding stuff. I do not see an anchor windlass and you probably want an underdeck autopilot if you do not have these for the trips you mention, but a lot of owner regret comes from adding complicated equipment that simply becomes a maintenance headache. You will find much support on the Yahoo tartan sailing site and on the T37 Association site. Folks there have much experience to share. Look forward to hearing from you. Plan on time in Maine as you make your way to the Bahamas. Plan on it taking 5X longer to enjoyably cruise someplace. Deliveries are not fun-I used to do them for a living. Cruising is about taking your time to explore and enjoy the people and places.
@SailingSoulianis7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Pete! Sounds like you've had some awesome adventures. We have installed a manual windlass (coming up in an episode or two) which we are very happy with so far. If we do upgrade the autopilot, it's going to have to wait until next year.

Just started watching your channel because I had a 1976 Tartan 27 & lived on it for 2 years mostly cruising the Bahamas. Tartan owners love their boats. The T-27, T34, T-37 are all great sailing boats designed by one of the greatest naval architecture firms of all time...Sparkman & Stephens. All 3 Tartans were keel/centerboards. The Tartan 30 was a bit different design.

Sailing Soulianis Hi guys, I sold a Corsair 24 Trimaran to pay for our move to the US, back home for my wife and new adventures for me and our two small kids. I am originally from Perth in Western Australia but moved from Albany in the south west of WA which is a pretty nice sailing ground and where Lisa Blair left for her Antartica circumnavigation, to come to the US. We had previously sailed the pacific a little bit which was pretty fun but limited to trailer sailing now. Here are a few highlights from our previous trip kzbin.info/www/bejne/maXJlqWofalln6s . I enjoyed seeing your California lifestyle and think it must be an awesome place to live if close to the beach and your work ( eg don’t need to drive too far for work in traffic). From an Aussie perspective we think the California lifestyle is awesome, and I have heard from visiting Americans that the west coast of Oz is like California 60 years ago. Once again awesome job on your videos and I look forward to watching your future adventures. If your back back up in Seattle area ( Chelan) let me know and we”ll get you out sailing on the lake! Louie
@SailingSoulianis7 жыл бұрын
We have not made it to WA yet. Would love to go camp and surf and shoot photos along the coast. California 60 years ago would be pretty great :) Seattle was amazing. It's on the short list of possible places to live if we ever move back on land.

@@SailingSoulianis I live in s.w. Washington along the Columbia River just n.e. of Portland. Washington is nice. Lots of forest and great hiking nice and green from all the rain. Love Portland and Seattle both but home and property values are exploding and really affecting the cost of living. Closing the deal on a nice 1986 27 ft. Catalina on Aug. 28th. 5 days after my 67th birthday. Needs electronics and stove etc. but a really sound boat in great condition. Much preferable to a well equipped boat with hidden structural problems. At $2,500 the price is right. Has several new sails and decent running rigging. 9 horse outboard clamps into transom cutout. Tiller steering. No, anchor rode locker as it appears to be a boat built without many of the available options. I can live with that given the overall condition of the boat.

You got yourselves a FRESH WATER Boat from the Great Lakes! Great decision there. I have a friend with a yacht in the Racine Harbor. I go twice a year on it but just for day cruise parties often Kenosha is a stop for Pizza/Beers. I’m into speed boating and found a 1995 23.5 footer/ 454 Chevy with 47 original hours on it!! A perfect cream puff, small cuddy cabin. It had been stored for years in a heated warehouse, unused and fresh water only. The Upholsterty in the cuddy cabin screams early 90’s. Quite ugly really. Rest of the boat very nice. Good luck and congrats to your new life!

Congratulations! Are you going to rename her to Soulianis? It would help your branding considerably if you did. Before setting off, make sure that ALL the little gotchas (like that glitch you found in the locker) get repaired. Glitches tend to grow into major problems when your are far from a decent port and even when they don't, they become a constant source of irritation and worry, even the tiniest ones. Especially, those that are mostly hidden away like that one was. Schedule some layover time when you get to FLA so that you can make adjustments and repairs (discovered on your way down the ICW) before you go off into the deep-blue. I wish y'all the best.
