Nice to have the redundancy but will feel better in 2 weeks when everything is repaired again

You guys have definitely had one hell of a adventure! Not only that you have shown how tough a Outremer catamaran truely is. Keep safe and happy sailing.

So sad about your new accident, but amazed again by your calm and effective reaction. Bravo! I'm sure that you will get your beatiful boat repaired soon and continue your sailing without issues, as you deserve

Tell you what guys..... Outremer's responses have been absolutely exemplary seeing that the 2 separate incidents have not been a manufacturing problem with the yacht...that is what you call great customer service...here's to clear horizons for your remaining passages.

Yep. Thats the advantage of catamarans. 2 of everything. But I was just wondering. Would you use an engine to aid steering if manoevering or even on passage if squally ? Probably not needed, but a useful backup ,thats for sure imo.
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
It would help, especially when the wind is blowing from the opposite side as where the rudder is missing. We had the wind on the “right” side all the time so we didn’t need it. Dagger boards down helped as well

You guys are doing great. Hopefully you will soon have two rudders again. I would have a question to your AST tender. As you have it now for a while, you would have plenty of experience. Would you still go with the Jockey seat or rather with the newside console. Or perhaps without any console at all because of the space? Thanks for your time.
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
We like the jockey seat very much, we would prefer it over the beach and console versions

tricky navigating. do you split the screen to show one inclose up detail and other general chart? whats the weight of great circle? ever recorded the weight when you get hauled out by travel lift?
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
We have 2 plotters and use additional iPads and phones to keep both overview and detail of the charts and additionally a sat view if relevant The boat was under 13,5 tons when launched without mast. We estimate to be between 16 and 16,5 metric tons total weight including our stuff, water and diesel

I’ve been wanting to ask this question for a while: what are the red lines on the shrouds?
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
At some frequencies the shrouds start resonating and tying a line around them stops it. We’re just to lazy to remove them every time

Now you’re Nemo with only one flipper.
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
The other flipper is in the bow compartment, does that count too? We’ll bring it along just in case one of others needs it later on, it’s (visually) not even that badly damaged but they don’t want to take the risk as we hit the reef at 8 knots

Hi guys. Have watched you channel a fair bit. Is it just the two of you sailing the 55? How do you go with just the two of you on such a big cat? My partner and I are tossing up between monohul and cat. I love the outremeer. Is the 55 ok for two people or do you think it’s too big?
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
With our current deck layout we need 2 persons for some things, more than on the lagoon 52S that was pretty simple to sail alone. But with 2 persons it’s easy to sail the O55 We only take a third person along on longer crossings for the night shifts, not necessarily because we need extra hands

Im surprised at how much rust is on some of the rudder equipment when the boat is not that old
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
There’s a problem with water getting under the aft couch getting in via the life raft hatch. From there it gets into the engine rooms. It has taken a while to find where it was coming from, is being solved now as well
@shnboardman12 жыл бұрын
Hope you don’t think I was being nasty, I was just wondering. Love your channel
@CatGreatcircle2 жыл бұрын
No no not at all, it wondered us as well. The parts where the alternators are mounted on are even worse. Good that we seem to have found all causes now so they can prevent similar things from happening on the new boats. Direct consequence of having one of the first hulls of a new model with new features. As long as it’s minor stuff like this you won’t hear us complaining
