Well done, James. Have not taken this step yet on Constance #262. As you say in the video, the deck of the earlier Alberg 30's is fiberglass and Masonite. Due to Whitby using Masonite, rather than balsa, in the early boats, the deck does not saturate so there are no delamination problems. Still, as you say in the video, it's worth using thickened epoxy to seal the exposed edges of the holes drilled into the boat. Look forward to your next video.

that makes sense as to why there are zero soft spots any place on my deck even though there are tons of holes from he previous owners!

Was working on the cockpit yesterday. Have removed coamings and all of the hardware, then washed the cockpit down. In doing so, I discovered that the cockpit sides, port and starboard, appear to have balsa core. Very easy to push into the core with an edged tool, definitely not masonite. Learn something new everyday.

You don't get much room to put the deck collar in next to the windlass. Nice pro looking job, James.

I laughed at 14:28 because I had just thought the very same thing while watching you get ready to drill it out, when you were saying "this is a pretty terrible feeling" :-)

When the point of a boat is to keep the air in and the water out a hole of that size is a bit disconcerting. Your windlass install looks like it is going to be a good one and will certainly enhance your sailing experiences in the future.

Found it!! Did you go with a Mantus Bow roller?

Sailor James, new branch, recently known also as dentist James 😂 had to skip the core removal, gave me shivers from the teeth. You're lucky having found no foam or balsa at this point. Much stronger this way. You plan on putting a plate/loadspreading layer of ply or alu on the underside of the windlass? (inside forepeak, that is)
@SailorJames7 жыл бұрын
HAHA! yes I put a full size backing plate on the windlass and smaller plates on the bow roller

Let us know how the left over Sx-ten stuff stores after a while..
@SailorJames7 жыл бұрын
It stores perfectly, I have gone through several tubes and I always keep some onboard. you just have to replace the nozzle after each use.
@mbiriviri3 жыл бұрын
Second that - - I’ve stored it for very long time and it’s just fine IF you’re really careful about putting the plugs back in the two-part nozzle so it’s really sealed. Otherwise you’ll be remembering how expensive that was when you have to throw away half the tube because you didn’t close it properly..:-) Great system but super expensive....

Y didn’t you go with a Lemar low profile windlass a lot smaller and lighter and it’s all you would need for your anchor ,new they are about 600 bucks,manual windlass are a waste of time dude you ll find there so slow u,ll pull anchor by hand ,,,I had one and got rid of it
@SailorJames7 жыл бұрын
manual windlass is perfect for what I need and I am fine with pulling up by hand if i need as well
