You can even run two leaders with two treble hooks and bait, this dramatically increases a solid hit. It also dramatically reduces the chance of losing what you just snagged.

I don’t know if you are aware, but one of the oldest actual laws of the sea is that vessels in need of emergency repairs have a universally right to dock anywhere to make those repairs. You may have to pay a fee but nobody can turn you away. Some people do milk it sometimes. But your main anchor point failing is a genuinely serious issue.

Underwater cinematography was spectacular! The overhead view of the “Tarpon-nado” was so kewl. The images were so colorful and the number of different fish that you came across was extraordinary. Capturing Kristen zooming about with the water sled was so full of grace, particularly amongst the Sea Turtles. I felt like as though I was viewing everything myself! Excellent, probably the best I have seen by you and many others!! On another note, the dual cleats is much weaker than the original Sampson Post as the rearward cleat is the only one that is taking the load and the two bolts’ shear strength is all that is holding the chain (anchor, rode, and backing forces). Even with Grade-8 bolts, it will not hold. Your best bet is to get the Sampson Post welded or get a Capstan (electrical or mechanical) from a hurricane-damaged boat. In the long run it will save Matt’s back and hands, particularly in less than calm conditions. Even Kristen would be able to weigh anchor with a mechanical Capstan. Good luck!

Beautiful underwater video work. We snorkeled that pier a couple years ago and it was so full of sealife we went back the next day. The underwater scooter would have been great there due to the depth of the water. Love your Sunday updates each week.

The backing plate wood exposed to saltwater will rote away. You should give it a cote of glass fibre matting to isolate the water and wood

True dat. I had a table saw injury, luckily didn't lose any fingers but came damn close, it was a pretty serious injury though. I just don't mess around any more when it comes to power tools. If you like having all your fingers(or your eyes, or other parts of your body) you shouldn't mess around either.

Check into using a 10 foot section of three strand nylon snubber and attach it to your anchor chain with a rolling hitch. This will take the strain off your attachment point on the boat and prevent shock loading your deck fittings.

Really enjoyed the underwater filming at the pier. That was so beautiful to see all the nature. I thought the circle of fish above Matt would have made a great thumbnail!
