Real sailors are the first to anchor watch in a deck chair. Sailing decades now mostly charter: I REQUIRE: windless, dodger, autopilot. (engine and head granted). Just don’t ever point your boat at a rock or lee-shore and nod off. It happens. If you can sync the AP to a chart plotter, it’s better. Then you can set it to a waypoint off shore and the worst that will happen is you drive around in circles off shore if you fall sleep.

The CPT is an excellent cockpit AP, for those who want the most dependable unit BUT are willing to manually adjust the controls for sea state management. Increase the gain for more rudder response as the chop or gusts increase, but also increase the steering range to allow more course drift at the same time. Essentially, as you need to alter sail configuration you'll also need to alter the AP settings. It becomes natural after a few sails. You DID buy extra pairs of the shear pins for the clutch and belts at the same time, didn't you? Oh, and the double pulley extra that narrows the belt and increases tooth contact is an excellent addition, especially for those sailing downwind where the pilot works more. Hmmm...a simple but durable AP and a Beta that is the most user-fixable engine on the market - appears you're becoming a sensible cruiser!

Very entertaining! I'm from Louisiana where we do back yard boils. A much easier way to boil is take a whole onion and cut in half. Throw the whole head of garlic in. Greetings from Finland! I've had this Cpt unit now for 4 years. It's a good autopilot but it has it's buts. We have sailed with it from Finland to France with a 33ft boat so it truly works but it is really easily mixed with magnetic influence. I mean it gets bonkers and afterwards it needs a new calibration. And this can happen only if you put a cellphone too close to it. Otherwise its really good for the price and prefer it to Raymarine wheel steering wich is made from plastic and breaks.
@areople2 жыл бұрын
You'll love your CPT wheel pilot. I install one on my Pearson 36-2 5 years ago. great company and very helpful. One tip, file the edges on the ring you attach to the wheel. It is sharp! I spent a whole season taking chunks of skin off of my hands. Just rounding the edges made a world of difference.

I have an older cpt autopilot. Tips on using, The on or first nob sets the amount of course correction. The second knob set the time between course correction. The compass knob can be set anywhere or if you wish match the compass. I use the on button just click on or 1, the second knob at 5 or above. Turn unit on cruise straight as possible for 15 minutes then engage the pulley. its to allow for the compass to catch up. If you set the time two short and the correction to much, your course will be like a snake. If your open ocean then set the time to max to save battery.
@jhonhayes34102 жыл бұрын
Matt I had 3 auto pilots; wheel, quadrant and wind vane. After 30,000 miles I used the wind vane 95 percent of the time and the quadrant when under power. Couldn't keep or get belts for the wheel so just scrapped it. Enjoy the show waiting for the big reveal.

Great episode, congrats on the new auto pilot, will be interesting what kinda of feed you give on it. We had a B&G Triton 1 auto pilot in stalled on our Corsair 880 Sport Trimaran. The Triton is basically a computer controlling your boat. This thing uses a 9 Axis gyro for rudder, wind speed, angle, and compass inputs. It also measures heel, roll, and pitch. These give more accurate data for radar overlays on chart plotters, including MARPA tracking of other vehicles.
