Mendelsossonh was inspired to compose the Hebridean Suite by Fingal's cave. If you get there you must have the music in the background. If there is a few on board a yacht take turns to go ashore and the dingy can wait off the shore.

Yep Fingal’s cave was amazing. Had the chance to anchor there overnight and have the entire place to ourselves! Well, and the midges 😂

Really enjoyed visiting Fingals cave with you, Isle of Staffa, Scotland April 2023. Visited the Isle of Mull, Iona and Tobermory by car in the 1970s.

Giant's causeway, Northern Ireland, has the same type of basalt columns. These are EPIC themselves. The legend is that the giant Finn McCool created them. But... NO CAVE! That was the most EPIC thing here. Thank you.

Yeah! We heard Giant’s Causeway is simililar. We didn’t make it so the way there so we were happy we got to see Fingal’s😄

As someone pointed out below, there is a very famous (among classical music enthusiasts) piece of music by Felix Mendelssohn called Fingal's Cave Overture. Played it back in the day. I knew it was a real place but had never seen it. Very cool. And to think I found your channel because I wanted to change a freshwater pump on a yanmar :)

If you visit Staffa in May/June the puffins are nesting and have learned that while the tourists are around they are safe from the seagulls. Instead of landing and going straight down their burrows, they will sit with you having a rest. My profile picture was taken on Staffa in 2018 with Puffins sitting by my leg. When I visited the walkway into the cave had been washed away by the storms but it looks like on your visit it has been repaired.

I think that rock formation is the Giants Causeway. Legend has it that giants walked the causeway from Nthern Ireland to Scotland. I've been to the Irish side. Check it out.

Yeah unfortunately we didn’t make it to the Giant’s Causeway to see the landscape but this made up for it being similar 😊

Those rock formations look like Devils Tower in Wyoming and the Northern area in Yellowstone along the river. The cause of this is cooling of volcanic magma cooling in the core as you said.
