You guys are smart to buy land, and the kid is so lucky to have you as parents because she will probably inherit it. My wife and I bought 160 acres 20 years ago, and we have been enjoying it ever since. Its a decent investment and it always brings contentment, which is good for your mental health. Land is the ultimate asset, get as much as you can afford.

I was very fortunate to raise my family at the foot of Avalanche Hill in Boyne City. From there I would walk to the Harborage Marina where you were at and sail to work in Charlevoix to my office across the street from the city marina that you also stood at. It was a very special way to live for over a decade. From Charlevoix, we launched on many sailing adventures across the upper lakes and the North Channel. We were also very fortunate to live downtown Harbor Springs within walking distance of the boat and finally on Walloon Lake.
@LoveShackBBQ3 жыл бұрын
What time frame did you live there? We lived on Front street right at where the boats were put up. Dad had his Power boat in the Marina for year, her name was “Kira-da-Naid” and had a beautiful painted transom. Ive got so many sweet memories of that town. We were there in the 80’s before the condos went up on the lake shore. There was a railroad track and a caboose. Rumor had it that 6 pack Ed wintered in it. My dad knew him and said he was actually a millionaire.

I follow a few sailing channels; all of which extol the wonders of travel and adventure. I like that, too. But you’re the only channel that balances that wanderlust with the virtue of place. Locality and belonging are vital to human thriving. Thanks for striking the balance.

Congratulations on your new home. It is great to see you found the perfect location. I purchased 5 acres in S.E. Texas with a small farm house and out building for the same reason. I down sized my sailboat from 60 feet to a 25 foot trailer sailor that is still blue water capable. I'm one hour inland from the coast of Beaumont, Texas. Love having a farm & the boat life together. Good luck with your new adventure. S/V Cork ~

.... missed the notification for this video and went looking, glad I did .... what an awesome piece of property, love your flat, rolly, hilly description and want. What a amazing view ....that sure was clear water in the marina, is the whole lake like that .... you two, three sure picked a great area to be looking for property, those towns, cities are so quaint and inviting and with sailing communities .... you mention permaculture food forest of which at this point I know nothing about. Greenhouses and hydroponics, aquaponics intrigue me though. .... back in the 80's when interest rates where just below 20%, was in a business heavily into real-estate. We were able to get Swiss financing of 4%. The one requirement that stuck in my mind to this day was that mortgagee had to have 60% equity. If the market does tumble, it has to go a long way before you would loose your chunk of dirt with improvements. ..... Lauren, had to laugh, tobogganing hill for Renata, and you wouldn't be out there taking just one more run .. smilin .. like the requirement and the emphasis put on it that you can get to any place in the world easily from there ... so plenty more adventures in your lives .... thx for sharing the peek into your lives .... and yes, as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

Congratulations! I love northern Michigan. I used to vacation on Torch Lake from the late 60's through the 70's We would day trip to Charlivoix and Petosky some years. There was a restaurant called Wings, I think by the draw bridge into Lake Charlevoix We always had dinner there and watched all the boats coming and going. The land you bought looks just like I remember that neck of the woods. I wound up in southern Vermont, so I didn't do to bad either.
