Well, the good news is that this project is an excellent example of why a marine survey of a boat is so valuable. Over the coming months and years people will be able to watch your videos from beginning to end and learn what hidden dangers and expensive repairs to look for, why they need a good surveyor, and how much time and money is involved. If you see a little rot, that means there is at least ten times as much not seen. Any experienced wood boat owner knows that and a good surveyor would have seen it many times. A surveyor can estimate the cost of repairs and a prospective buyer uses that information when figuring what they can offer, if they still want to buy the boat after a survey. I have zero doubts any good surveyor would have told you it will be less expensive to build a new copy of YABA than to rebuild this boat. Thanks for saving a lot of other dreamers from the nightmares of buying a sick boat they can't afford. You have a great attitude, you are great people, and are wonderful friends of many. In the end it is a great life experience, you are making a great documentary of a disaster, you are providing work for many, and it is only money.

@@hyperflys Yep, and anyone with sailing experience would know the boat is not a sailboat, it is a cartoon motor boat that has dinky masts and sails to put up for looks while motoring around. I really don't understand why people need to be so rude in their comments. They want to be funny but they are just sad people. The owners of Yabá are adults and are not forcing anyone to help or even watch the videos. They are sharing a life experience, whether they are making their choices right or wrong. Anyone who has ever had a moment of uncertainty and dream in life must remember how it makes us more human. Whoever didn't have that moment, well, whoever didn't have that moment lost a lot of the flavor of life. If you make rude comments but are still here it is because somehow you are enjoying the content. Be kind, contribute in any way you can if you want. But if it's just to be rude don't be a coward and go find someone your size and try it face to face.

Patrick, you have many valid points here, but I think you are equating "rudeness" with negativity. I think most would agree that more viewers on this channel are welcome. It would be unfortunate if all comments were to follow the progressive mindset that all should conform to the one and only progressive mantra. There will always be some who will challenge a majority and I think rightly so. Rudeness has no place here or anywhere else for that matter; a dissenting/negative opinion should always be tolerated.

These guys & shipwrights are very dedicated on this project & project is an understatement. When they removed the planks & I saw all the rot I couldn't believe my eyes. I'm surprised when they set Yaba on the support blocking it didn't just crumble completely from it's own weight. Lots of work has been done but VERY much work ahead even before new planking begins. These guys don't have the tools that Acorn to Arabella or Sampson Boat Company has but they're doing a massive amount of work with what they have. They don't have a ships saw which is a great piece of equipment. Love watching her be healed of all the rot. Good luck Ben & MP.

Yes I'm no expert but having now seen the state of the ribs it looks to me like a lot of the strength of the boat was in the hull planking. Now those boards have been removed I would definitely think the boat could deform and I'm guessing the carpenters also think this and hence they are bolting those ribs together to try and save the boat from collapse. I really wish them all the best luck with this project it becoming a massive undertaking but they are lovely couple and it makes for interesting videos that should get lots of views to help fund the renovation.

Having owned sailboats i can only imagine the surprises that await once the topside is surveyed. Quite possibly much of the house will have to be removed , including the rigging and mast . I'm sure the electrical and mechanical systems are due for replacement . How about fuel and water tanks and that diesel looked pretty tired . The rebuilding of the hull is only the beginning on the long road ahead , having a properly restored vessel means from top to bottom and everything in between .

My family had a ship that was mostly wood, everything but the hull was made out of wood, but towards the end where I moved away from on my own, my dad was swearing up a storm that he would never have a ship that was mostly wood again. He was talking about sealing everything because one tiny water penetration anywhere will always lead to rot and often it's deep inside the gut of the ship or along the edges. If I learned one thing from that, is that a mostly wooden ship needs a lot of TLC and you must check for water damage every couple of months, my dad's recommendation was to go for something so sealed that the only place water could get in is through the through holes, the propeller shaft if you don't maintain it and through the hatches and windows if you don't maintain the seals. But if it gets through it does little damage. Wood is just too much work.

Purple heart same as the timber Leo is using for Tally Ho. An Adze these guys know what they are doing by the way adze takes years of skill to master.

As an amateur woodworker and a sailing (beginning) enthusiast this channel has lots to offer! I am marveling at the skill of these craftsmen!

I'd be interested to know in the end how many man hours they worked on this.

I am so sad to see so much must be replaced but, it will be so beautiful when done. I enjoy all your videos and the craftsmanship of your workers. If only everyone would take such pleasure and pride in their work.

The people working on your boat are in my opinion men among men. So glad I’m a subscriber.

They must be spending a fortune to basically rebuild the boat. I'm starting to wonder if it would have been cheaper (and easier) to just buy a new one.

Keep doing it at least there is money at the end because as far as you go it takes guts and once completed you will be able to sale for the right price and find a boat that is more fun to play with....xx

It's amazing what these craftsmen can do. Practically half that boat is getting replaced. One peace at a time.

Hi, I admire what you are doing. This is a major undertaking. Could you do a session on the costs for the timber and work just out of curiosity as you go so easy about just replacing the keel, then the planks, then the engine (not yet) etc. It must be very cheap that you can be so relaxed about it.

Wow, the problem goes much higher than I would have imagined.

It’s the fresh water coming from the top that causes more issues , Leo on tally Ho had some snow blow in the boat the other day which would melt , he talked about drying it up and pour in some sea water !!
