But that overly slick 'professional' documentary style, voice over thing turns me off! It feels like a TV show in all the worst ways! You imagine someone shouting cut so they can head off back to their 6 star luxury hotel leaving someone else to do the sailing?

We did the same crossing in February 2021. The only sign of civilization I remember seeing between St. Helena and Fernando was a few jets flying 35,000 feet overhead. Probably flying between Europe and Brazil or Argentina. It's very truly a remote part of the world.

Amazing as ever. Still the best sailing channel. Love your long passage films and love it when you explain the sail plans and what you are doing with the boat. I can sail but I don’t have the offshore experience like you do and I have learnt so much from your explanations. Matt and Amy if you have not been back to the UK in 6 years you will get a shock how expensive things have become and the atmosphere has changed. I want to get out of here yesterday. It’s really quite depressing.

I rigged stainless eye bolts between bulkheads and rigged hammocks when in rolly anchorages or passages. Cheap and effective--and once one gets used to them, really sound sleep. They also do not cause condensation in mattresses--there are no mattresses--just blankets. The good thing about hammocks is they can be clipped anywhere, even in the cockpit athwartships as a seat.

8:07 why do you need to round up to reef? We reef running hard downwind. Also to limit the rolling, we pole the headsail out to leeward and over trim the main a bit. We still achieve hull speed but roll much less.

For rough weather meal prep, I used a plywood shelf with holes for bowls, (we never used plates while at sea) and this plywood sat on blocks about two inches high and locked in place over the usual bench, and could be removed and stowed as needed. It was possible using this old sailing ship trick to fill several bowls and cups without fear of spillage--as long as they are not over-filled--so we always used tall polycarbonate mugs instead of china teacups when under way.

This did look like one of your easier passages, excluding cooking dinner in those heavy swells! It must have been more relaxing and less stress not having to navigate around a lot of ship traffic, and not having to deal with thunderstorms. As always, looking forward to the next episode and learning a bit about an island I had never heard of until watching this video.

With regard to your comment about event-free South Atlantic, I remember that in Brasil, any storms we experienced were more of localised thunder-and-lightening affairs rather than big winds, and very little (if any) came in off the sea - the tropical heat of the interior, particulary Amazonas, was by far the greatest source of thermal activity. Also the Argentine pampas which was the greatest influence on our daily routine in Rio Grande do Sul. I think down south in Patagonia, the situation of-course is different, but that's thousands of miles off your course, so no bother.

Dear Matt and Amy, Thank you for another wonderful video of your adventures. We have watched you from the start and have learnt so much about our beautiful world. It is much appreciated. I am not sure how far ahead you are and I hope that I am not to late. I know that you will be missing your friends and family after 6 long years away. However the UK has seriously changed since you left. Be it from Brexit, Covid or more likely 12 years of a Conservative government. I recommend that you go around again when you get to Grenada. That way we will all get to see more adventures (another 6 years?). And it will give the UK to get itself sorted ready for your return. Best wishes Nick and Sarah.

Have you considered putting a high sided oven tray or similar on your stove top held on with your pan holders to put your plates/bowls/cups on/in whilst you serve…it saves things sliding around and can make it easier to serve as your plates and cups etc will gimbal on the stove top rather than sliding along your worktop?
