Thing is, no one is saying its not badass. The dub just suffers in comparison from the distillations bc a lot of the most interesting aspects of the original are lost bc it was marketed to younger children. This scene is cool, but the original has new and more interesting elements, like the fact that its not really Beryl she’s fighting, its Queen Metaria (the Negaforce) possessing her, the true sacrifice of the other Sailors, and the sacrifice of Sailor Moon, herself, to destroy Metaria for good. We all love the dub fight, it’s just the Japanese has more emotional complexity to it.

They really took the original soundtrack and elevated it to a new level. Original JP series had random 1700's (and thus royalty free) classical music for several scenes in the anime, whereas DiC remixed the Japanese OP for that catchy "sailor moon theme" background music you hear in most episodes. It feels alien watching the original series without that BGM.

Serena’s VA making the choice to not use contractions when the character is in princess mode is such a great decision. She probably had that direction based on how the Japanese VA spoke and use dialects, but it’s still an inspired and small thing that helps to make her feel like a different person.

This version is horrible because it simplifies the stories too much and every little detail had reference to spiritual experiences and allegories to enlightenment on the journey from the fool as in the tarot to the empress and beyond. The video the allegories within sailor moon is barely speaking of this.. barely scratching the surface.. we found out much more like the fact that chibi moon is the golden rose flame and her and her parent are the triquetra. Her umbrella and that of mary poppins is an allegory too

After 7 or 8 months i couldnt hide it any more and they discovered the truth, promptly whisking me the hell away from the 60 year old man who convinced their 10 year old daughter to end herself, but the main reasons i survived that year? My cat... and sailor moon. Every time i heard "thanks to you, my friends" the tears poured down my face, but in a good way. Words of kindness, love, and appreciation that felt aimed at me, rather than anger, spite, and blame. I dreamed of being as brave as serena facing queen beryl when she started out as scared as i was. Thats how good this anime and this dub was, even with the flaws. Honestly im crying again now, and also smiling. ***** July 5th. I've finally got round to read the manga. And will be watching both the subbed (and new dubbed once it's available in the UK) between the episodes. Will possibly reread the manga during the gaps too

"I'm not afraid anymore." "YOU SHOULD BE!" No, Beryl. YOU should be. After waiting 40 episodes for this moment, Princess Serena is finally going to have her revenge.

I love this song, remind me how memorable and epic it is. This is the first ver of dub that i watched, so the first impression is for this ver and its so valuable to me. But when I turn to watch japanese ver. OMg, another felling took over my whole body, it's called awesome., although they are same movie, but they have different points that make me love both and surely there are definite positions in my memory for 2 kind of dub version.

Before we had DVR or streaming, I would watch this show every afternoon with a blank tape and a VCR hoping I could catch this episode. I love the part where they each put a hand on hers and I still get goosebumps when she says “COSMIC MOON POWER, UNITE!”

Just watched the original version on Hulu. Gotta say, Dic did this right, even with less time. EPIC! They completely rewrote the flashbacks to be about friendship instead of romantic love, and it works. COSMIC MOON POWER!

Nah they worked the romantic love part in too.
