Is this the boat and sailor who single-handed to Hawaii and had rudder issues (boat hit something) I recall. You did a great job managing that problem. Interesting to watch previous videos on refitting this old Alberg.

James, man , another great video. And some great renovations. Re the water, another 60 gal water tanks , seems an awful lot to me. We crossed the Atlantic 24 days at sea, 3 people, and we used about 80 gal pf water. We washed in seawater once we were offshore, Im just thinking you may find you wont need that much water storage, especially if You plan to take quite a bit of bottled water. Lastly we removed the foul smell from our potable water system by flushing it with a solution of ‘Polident’ , the same stuff folks use for their dentures...
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 3 жыл бұрын
Considering the places we are planning in the coming years 60 gallons is actually not much at all, we hope to add a water maker the end of next year which will give us a lot more freedom and peace of mind.

Some good advice, a lot of good advice. Thr Cannel Islands and France are heaven. Even within Fecamp harbour its gorgeous, Eterat also with its identifying hole in the cliff. Give LeHarve a miss. Honfleur harbour with it's 5 story buildings is beautiful. You are just miles away. Le Mont-Saint-Michel, please dont miss it. Oh I want a boat so badly but first need surgery. I dont want one too big. A 28 feet ok for blue water with the right keel and rigging. Saw a gorgeous Drascombe Coaster 2005 With Road Trailer sailor 2/4 berth sail boat but just fit for inshore, small two birth. Great for around the UK but thats it. Only 18 inch above the water with little keel. Keep the advice coming. Thanks SORRY! THOUGHT YOU MEANT THE ISLANDS JUST OFF FRANCE.

Nice work you did on everything, gosh, a lot of work! The safety lines, not so good. as a plastics engineer, the CA sun will eat them in no time and you may not see it. Also, I worked on the Alberg 30 with my dad '78 to '84 out on the Long Island Sound, we had a lot of fun! Sailed through many storms, raced it, flew a spinnaker, it was a tough boat.

I think I heard on a previous video that you were in newmark marina. I am also in newmark marina. I still live in Oregon but i keep my C45 down in long beach. My plan is to come down to my boat the day after thanksgiving. I have some work to do and some sailing classes to attend. If there is time after all that, I would like to make my maiden voyage to the channel islands as a shake down cruise. I hope to see you guys around.

Good Morning James, I want to add the solar panels on the rear life rails on my ‘63 Pearson Triton like you did. The location is a very clever idea. My main sheet, attached to a traveller installed on the rear deck edge of the cockpit, would conflict with a life rail placed there when the boom is extended out. The Triton and Alberg 30 are very similar boats, except for the Albert being a 1.5 ft. longer, did you have a similar issue?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 4 ай бұрын
My main sheet has not been an issue in 12k miles

Congrats on the Cruising Mag spot! It was a great read! Did you repaint the inside of your Alberg and how?
@Pauly__D
@Pauly__D 3 жыл бұрын
Hi captain . The slow charge rate from your alternator is typical. Look into the Victron Energy Orion-Tr Smart 12/12-Volt 18. Seemed to be the most cost effective way of tackling the issue. I took out my ACR and wired one in this past summer. Works great, increased my charge rate significantly .Like yourself I have conservative power needs but with the Orion next to 175w of solar I don't really have to think about it that much. On a side note, what size wire are you using for your panel feed? The one with the breaker/jumper wire on it, looks under gauged to me.

Thanks I will look into that 👍🏻

Great upgrades. Specially the hot water shower. One question: any reason why you didn't go with a Composting head? I heard they don't smell as much.
@SailorJames
@SailorJames 3 жыл бұрын
I would never have a composting head on my boat. I have no interest in carrying the “liquids” container through the cabin and pouring it overboard every time it gets full and Peet moss is hard to find in far flung locations (I installed one of these on a friends boat and we couldn’t find any easily in the Stockholm archipelago)
