5600 RPM (before) to 6240 RPM (after) is actually a 640 RPM increase. Great results!

Well it has been 9yrs. I wonder if saito addressed that issue? I was going to buy a 60cc r3 but after seeing this video I am holding back.

They did address it. They made the corrections and changed it to the FG 90. The 60cc never had the intake problems. You should be good

@@Condor060I did purchase the FG-60R3 early this year 2024. It is not running right. Cylinder 1 runs at around 150F, cylinder 2 and 3 around 110F ?? Tried a mod ed back plate from a guy from the UK I did not help. Do you sell modified plated for the 60cc?

I knew about the temperature differences between cylinders on Saito 3-cyl. radials but hadn't quite understood how different it meant the mixtures are. I'd be interested to see an analysis of the Saito 5-cylinder the same way and whether the same improvements can be had. EDIT - sorry but I really couldn't handle the dog gimmick. Had to skip past it, just couldn't deal with it.

The reason the engine speed and mid throttle response improved was more so due to the tube insertion which raises intake velocity - the rest could be minimized to possibly unnecessary and/or immeasurable. Hello 'Home Depot' plumbing dept for $10. :)

Hallo Fred .. could you reduce the high oil content 1:20 /1:25 in the mix through mounting the bronze bearing on maybe 1:40 ? i mean that the bad original Rod bearing is the only Reason why this Saito requires such much Oil .

No, This engines fuel feed is through the top of the cylinder. It is not through the carb like all other oil mix engines where the crank is bathed with the fuel oil mix before it enters the cylinder. The only oil the crank receives is the unburnt portion through the top of the cylinder. If you lien out the oil the bearing will fail.

How many flights have You had? Is this still running very good? I got mine installed and testflighted in a Yak and it is quite ok after long time adjusting but still bad midrange. Will consider this upgrade during winterseason :-)

32 flights and still running strong. This is a great engine once the mods are done. In my humble opinion, you are risking your aircraft on this engine without the mods. Running a gas engine without a bearing on the main rod???? Its just a matter of time before it locks up. Saito should know better.

Fred Culbertson Hi, Totally agree. I normally use a little motor oil in the crankcase of these Saito engines. I`ve did that on my Saito Fg 57 for 50+ flights and it`s running very good. But I sure will do this upgrade, but first fly this season thru....

Hello my name is Juan Manuel from Argentina. I am the owner of a new saito fg 84r3. I am working in a new project for a Fockewolf top flight and i found your video. I didn't run the engine yet but i think its a great idea first to install a ball bearing in the main crankshaft. Can you tell me please the number of that bearing so as to get it? And second i didn't understand good what do you modify in the intake. Maybe you can give me your e Mail and explain me how to do it. Thanks a lot and great video!!!!!!

You can contact Ray English at Ray@TTWUSA.com The bearing is not available through any parts distributor. The crank has to be turned down and the rod opened up so the bearing is custom made by Ray.

I believe it is a brass Bushing, not a Ball Bearing.. If it had been a needle bearing, one could decrease the oil content to 32-1.... Not knocking it.... As I would like the same thing done to my 450r !!!

Not enough meat in the main rod to install a needle or ball bearing. Thats why we went with the bearing Ray made. These are not off the shelf fixes. This is all custom work. If you want it done you have to send your engine to Ray for the Mods. He made the bearing and the intake parts himself. He is in the business of making custom engine mods so I don't think you will have any luck getting him to give you his intellectual property information for free.
