I would not even fault the subber, the voice actor pronounced the word closer to the word 12 in Japanese rather than 14. With they way they are doing the voice the Juu sound came out as more of a Chuu which I believe is the only difference between those two words. A little disclaimer though I am not even approaching conversational in Japanese and know very little of the language.

The reason why he might have said that is probably because Initiating a conversation with : “first off..” is a very direct start wich can feel cold for the reader.
