@nessamillikan62472 жыл бұрын
I absolutely feel the same way! Every element in this ep feels out of touch while still being characteristic of Salad Fingers’ lucid mind (what’s left of it). Everything he encounters crosses the border between imagination and reality, much like a dream, or what the early onset of dementia must be like. It’s also a highly emotional episode whilst not being a traumatic episode for SF like how Glass Brother was. You can really see here what kind of insanity SF accepts as normal by how minimally affected he is- with no shortage of gruesome imagery, his rationale is either to respond with indignation or peaceful acceptance, and no episode bounces back and forth with it better than this one does.

As weird and disturbing as this series is, there is some seriously poetic lines used that are simply amazing. When he refers to the pole being “free of all information,” and grows upset at the pole being “textureless” I really loved the message being conveyed. It shows how alien the nature of this pole is, especially to Salad. He is used to a gritty world where everything there only grows more of a “texture” as time moves on. Especially people and objects succumbing to rust and/or decay. These “textured” items give Salad a sense of home as and possibly even memories when he touches them. The fact that this pole has no texture allows us “the viewers” to understand his discomfort as he touches it and feels something that has no texture, no memories, no age. Sorry for the rant, I just really appreciate lines like this 😁

Hi

That's a really cool and interesting way of interpret it!
@brosetta-6878 Жыл бұрын
I see it much darker.. I think he’s a cannibal serial killer going further insane every day. He gets pleasure from pain because it’s the last moments before the victims life is taken away. Rusty spoon, taps, the meat hook he puts is finger through, the bear trap etc, all weapons he’s used, it’s why he enjoys feeling the objects used to murder, a way to reminisce and fantasize about the moments leading to death. They are rusty maybe because of the unwashed blood over time, thus this metal stick is a new unused weapon “with no information” the head of the new victim that comes down is a celebration that this metal pole will become rusty with a story (information) about this murder. The dinner party all look like him because it’s just all his personalities eating the remains of the body as a ritual.

I'll say, I absolutely love the more detailed, cinematic quality that Salad Fingers developed up to episode 11, which I know must've taken an insane amount of work. I can tell with the market episode and #12 you were going for a simpler aesthetic that more closely matched the originals, but if you could bring back this style for future episodes (or get to a middle ground between the two), that'd be amazing! In any case, love your work :)

I like this episode for the way it feels like a dark celebration of the series while also being completely its own story. There's the literal birthday celebration going on, but also a sort of community in the puppets, the horses and the Salad Finger clones that makes all the gruesome imagery feel more homely. There's even the doctors appointment which is traditionally a little unnerving in real life with the sterile environment of hospitals feeling detached from the outside world, so having the more gritty nature of it all on full display in perhaps the angriest, largest and most alive puppet of the franchise feels terrifying in a comforting way. The actually sterile nature of the pole being the maker and giver of the Cubicle Hat feels more endearing, like an actual alien being caring towards humans with practices of human traditions despite having no obligation to do so. It's just interesting to me that something that looks so horrific, filthy, decayed, gruesome and overall mysteriously alien can still carry that warm sense of celebration that is provided at family house parties and give an odd sense of comfort to doctors appointments.
