Salamander 2 (Arcade) (4K/60fps)

Released in arcades in Japan & Asia in 1996, Salamander 2 wraps up Konami's "Salamander" franchise with a then-modern-day remake of the original space shooter to commemorate it's 10th anniversary. It's a basic no-plot shooter consisting of flying through 6 stages, defeating the big boss and blowing up its base, the giant salamander in the attract screen is mostly for show.
There have been a couple tweaks to this version from the original: The addition of 2 new powerups-a twin laser and an "Option B", but also a new trick-by holding down the second attack button with an Option item(s), the player can charge up the option and release it to fire a homing missile that will target nearby enemies. The player can then collect the leftover Option for an "Option B" that circles around the player's ship, autofiring regular shots constantly, and can be charged up again for a weaker homing shot than with a regular Option. Additionally, if the player collects the same powerup that is currently equipped again, that weapon gets a temporary upgrade. The Shield item has also been upgraded to a force field that protects the player's ship from roughly 3 shots, essentially granting limited invulnerability. The player can also continue when all ships are lost as long as the first loop of the game has not been completed. If the player reaches the second loop, there are no continues and the game is over when that loop is completed or all lives are lost. The second loop has increased difficulty and the Stage 1 music is changed to a remake of the original Stage 1 music from Salamander/Life Force.
The game also alternates again between horizontal scrolling for most stages and vertical scrolling for stages 2 and 6, and in stage 2 the player has much more freedom of side-to-side movement less restricted by the monitor's natural limits.
The game was released for the PlayStation in Japan only in 1998 as part of the game "Salamander Deluxe Pack Plus", which also included the original arcade versions of Salamander and the Japan version of Life Force. Neither the arcade game or this compilation were released outside of Asia.
