Cowherd couldn't be more wrong. There is no way we have a Superbowl roster with one of the worst OL's in the entire league, and the absolute worst interior OL in the league. You don't make a SB with any of your positional groups being in the bottom 5. Give Geno a league average OL and we'll be shocked at how good he is. This means league average pass protection and league average run game, with the ability to actually pick up a 3rd and 1, 3rd and 2, or 4th and 1. I'm not a huge Geno fan, however he has a good arm, can play well at pace, he can scramble, and speaks well in interviews (decent leader). He is a bit like bambi when he runs and he ain't taking a hit to get a first down like some QBs, my main issue is i don't think his decision making is elite (deep playoff level). Throws too many picks in situations he doesn't even need to force a play. I have been really impressed with McD, he has fixed issues with the defense as they occur and takes a no nonsense approach, if you aint performing, someone else gets a shot. A few seasons of this and the defense could be very powerful. Grubb i'm kind of meh at the moment, the OL probably gets him a free pass for now.

If you trade for another quarterback, there is also a very real chance that you get 8-9 wins again and you end up in the same spot. The idea that you trade for a guy and they will either be a top 5 guy or the worst in the league is crazy. Darnold walked into a perfect situation and we don't have that. Getting to 14-15 win with a reclamation project is not realistic. The decision the Vikings are going through is the same that the Seahawks are going through. They have a known in Darnold/Geno and JJ is a unknown in a good scenario he ends up being as good as the other two. At 40 million, Geno is still a bargain. We have not been able to see his ceiling yet due to the way our roster is constructed. And paying Geno doesn't mean you can't get playable offensive linemen. We aren't looking to have a top 5 offensive line (although it would be nice), we are looking to be average to slightly below average because that is significantly better than what we have gotten the past 3 years.

Geno has been the worst redzone QB in the NFL over the last 2 years, and not just with INT's either, Geno had the worst redzone completion percentage last year at 43%, this year he's at 48% while leading the league in redzone INT's. That type of redzone play from a QB is crippling. In back-to-back seasons Geno has been 21% less accurate in the redzone, and that's with 2 different HC's, 2 different OC's, and 2 different O-lines.
So glad these guys are on podcasts and not actually running the team. Jags, Raiders, Jets, Browns pick it the top 5 every year and still suck so tanking for a good pick isn't some cheat code to get good. It's what bad teams do to justify being bad to their fans.

With Mike M and John S, they can create a Super Defense. Maybe something greater than LOB. 🤞
@Jason-lk9yi2 күн бұрын
Just by cutting Geno, Dre'Mont Jones, Lockett, and Fant that would free up 62m in cap space and that's even after the 47m in dead cap.

Trade geno and try your best at trading for jj McCarthy from minn. Or work with the 3 qbs we have under Geno

How about a better O-line?

I think for next season they should sign Ryan Tannehill to play in the three preseason games as the backup and I he’ll be a great backup QB Quarterback or Third String or even Practice Squad QB because, I think they have Sam Howell still for one more year in his rookie QB contract from Washington because he’s only a third year guy and will be a fourth year QB next season for 2025 either way I like it when we win our preseason games also plus having added insurances at QB is always a good thing I’m sure Ryan Tannehill will opt to go for a much cheaper QB contract now that the whole nfl league that nobody wants him because he’s playing like Backup QB level now so hey he didn’t do that bad against Geno Smith last year for 2023 season he made it a lil close of a game but Geno Smith came back with the W Dub all day so let’s f**** go!!!🏈 🙌

Even with the problems on the offensive line, the Seahawks roster is NOT a 4-13 roster. It's not a "Super Bowl" roster with that offensive line like Coward said either. If they actually properly went about fixing their offensive line, I think they could put A LOT of quarterbacks in that offense and they would be successful. Mind you, it's not just Sam Darnold. Baker Mayfield is a castoff. Even Jared Goff was a castoff. Brock Purdy was the last pick in that entire 2022 crappy quarterback draft class. The way I see the quarterback position, if Seattle doesn't improve the team around the QB (particularly in front of him on the offensive line), what they do at quarterback doesn't matter. That's how teams like the Jets and Browns are always chasing quarterbacks; that's not what good organizations do. Putting a young quarterback behind our current offensive line would be an unmitigated disaster. Geno has one year left on his deal with a cap hit of $38.5M. I think even he would say he hasn't put his best foot forward in trying to earn a new contract. The best thing would be for the Seahawks to restructure his deal by converting his salary/roster bonus to signing bonus and add 4 void years. That would cut his 2025 cap hit basically in half. That should be the start of some cap cleansing/releases/restructuring moves to retain guys like Ernest Jones on defense. They only spent a little over $19M in 2024 on their ENTIRE offensive line, so make a heavier investment there, because the team already has the weapons around Geno. That would put Geno and the entire team in a better position to succeed. We saw Geno be downright surgical in 2022 with a better line in front of him. If he doesn't succeed under those circumstances in 2025 then he isn't the guy, but I think he can replicate 2022 or even better with a better offensive line.

Fix the O-Line before worrying about a QB...
@JohnMurphy-b2e2 күн бұрын
I agree with the others on here - we have to upgrade our IOL before we even start looking at QBs. And heaven forbid that the Hawks have a worse year after so many years of mediocrity. How crazy!
@harveyharveyness87732 күн бұрын
DO NOT re-sign Geno Smith-30 to 40M really-Wake up-if the Hawks don't fix the totally inconsistent "O" line it won't matter whose behind center-I do like the fact we have a young up and coming coach-Mr Schneider needs come out of his fog and get busy or go to Green Bay where his heart is

Zach Wilson or feilds would B a good option also getting Jaxon Dart could B a option

Grubb has to go. He is not an NFL caliber play caller. He refuses to run the ball. The proof is in the numbers. Running the ball IS seahawks football. Anybody would tell u

Drew Locke would be better than the choices you gave at $10M would be cheap. But resigning Geno is the most likely sceneario.

No GD way are you suggesting Daniel Jones? lol! I want JJ backing up Geno next year.
@erikquinonezjr332 күн бұрын
Just bring back geno on a friendly deal revamp the interior o-line with rookies and drafting more d-lineman. I don’t get how JJ is worth more than a first if theirs zero tape of him even playing in the nfl yet we would look like a joke taking that bet imo 🤷♂️. If we suck next year id rather ride with geno since he has a year under his belt with a college-pro offensive coordinator in Grubb
@Jason-lk9yi2 күн бұрын
If Geno plays the same way he did this year or even worse, not even 25m a year would be team friendly.

That J.J. McCarthy take is dumb. Contrary to what Cowherd says, we don't have a SB roster.. Not even close. I don't like mediocre either but these options just don't work. Daniel Jones? Zack Wilson? There is no Sam Darnold 2.0. Darnold went to a team with 3-4 great weapons, a solid Oline and great coaching. We have horrible Oline play, average weapons ( JSN is good, DK over-rated, Lock getting old), a RB 1 that can't stay healthy and an OC that doesn't know how to scheme guys open or figure out a consistent rushing game. Hopefully he does a lot better in year 2.

I'd never give up a first round pick for JJ McCarthy cuz we don't know how good he is he hasn't played at all so obviously he's not better than Sam darnold or else he'd be starting for the Vikings so no way a first round pick for a player that's unproven.
