WOW! WHAT A GREAT SPEAKING VOICE. You need to be on the radio or doing voice overs or doing commentary gigs. You could make a ton of money with that voice.

Thank you. Life is so funny. I hated my voice when I was growing up. I am definitely looking at ways that I can get into voice over work, commentary, reading audio books...that kind of thing. Also working on my own podcasting for both swimming pool industry and additional avenues. Thanks again for commenting. Takes only a moment to say something nice and brighten someones day.

He’s kind of being misleading in saying that the kind of chlorine a salt cell makes has a high pH, when it doesn’t. It’s the sodium hydroxide that’s also produced along with the chlorine that has the high pH.

Salt water is better because if you swallowed chlorine you could suffocate but with salt water it feels a bit odd but not as uncomfortable as chlorine.

Thanks that was helpful. But if you're buying a new pool, which would you choose? Salt or Chlorine?
@Swimmingpoolsteve3 жыл бұрын
It depends what your priorities are. Do you want to drive to the store to get chlorine or do you want to manufacture your own chlorine even if it means more chances for staining or maginally reduced equipment life? I like salt. Its convenient. Just be diligent about balancing your water chemistry.

hi Steve, I agree with you but isn't the salt in the water that would damage your pool heat exchanger? (unless it is titanium).
@Swimmingpoolsteve4 жыл бұрын
Hi there. That is an oversimplification which makes your statement technically untrue. Salt systems cause chronically high pH which pool owners tend to unerappreciate and under treat which causes a permanent scaling state in the water which has a destructive impact on heater internals. The solution is to not have scaling state water by better understanding of pH control and preventing pH drift upwards and not just a more noble metal heat exchanger. Great question, thank you for asking.
@9snake4 жыл бұрын
@@Swimmingpoolsteve thank you Steve! In this case I can survive with my stainless steel heat exchanger if I keep PH down. Very interesting. I also thought why salt would destroy it as the level is so low..

So which pool, salt versus chlorine versus other, do you have or would you get? Can chlorine pools be just as automated/easy maintenance as salt water pools?

Greetings Steve. How about the Nature 2 Fusion system? Is it a good choice for a pool?

Hi Steve, thanks for the explanation. Question, what are the most common factors that elevate the pH in my pool? Is it low chlorine levels for instance, lack of or ineffective filtration, etc.?
@Swimmingpoolsteve4 жыл бұрын
Lots of things can make the pH go up! You do, water agitation, chlorine from salt water...lots of things make the pH go up in pool and spa water. If you have a waterfall and run it all night long you will notice your pH is way higher in the morning as a result. Chlorine level does not directly cause pH issues, same with lack of filtration. If your pH is always going high then borates are the solution you need to help combat against upwards drift of pH.
@gabrielugalde56244 жыл бұрын
@@Swimmingpoolsteve Thanks for the tip on borax. I would balance the water pH back to neutral first and then apply borates to hold pH.

Hi! I just bought an above-ground pool (232gal/880l). With my previous inflatable pool, the lining got slimy in less than a week. Should I add chlorine granules, salt or peroxide to avoid this from happening with my new pool? I'd appreciate your advice.
@johnhanselman63713 жыл бұрын
232 Gallons is not much water. Less than 1 hour to refill with new water. I presume it is for kids or pets. I would dump it. Clean the inflatable pool liner with clean rags with a dab of bleach. And then refill.

Do you still need to use chemicals with a salt water pool?
@Swimmingpoolsteve3 жыл бұрын
All the same ones you use in a regular chlorine pool. Only difference is the chlorine. You don't buy it anymore (for the most part) as now you generate your own chlorine from salt. All other chemical parameters still apply

@@Swimmingpoolsteve thank you looks like I’m sticking with the system I have then. Doesn’t make enough sense to buy the salt water system

Nope! I've swam in a salt water pool, & it was much better than a standard chlorine pool. Yes, you generate chlorine in a salt water pool, but it is not nearly as strong smelling, & doesn't dry your skin & burn your eyes. I can swim w/ my eyes open in a salt water pool w/ no pain. The salt is also very soothing to aching muscles.

They can still be great. Just manage your pH and maybe consider using borates to help hold the pH from rising.
