also (idk if this was intentional but my brain picked up on it and I spent about a minute squinting at the screen) when Oliver throws his dad's rock way at the beginning it doesn't land in the water, foreshadowing the fact that he's not dead

No he didn't. The director came up with the idea on the day of shooting. So it wasn't in the script but it also wasn't spontaneous.

The last scene wasn't in the original script either. Oliver was supposed to crawl into bed naked. The dance scene we got wasn't exactly improvised, it was planned out... but Barry felt that Oliver's final scene needed something more, so he and Emerald came up with the dancing through the house instead.

If you like Saltburn, you may be interested in: The Talented Mr Ripley (starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Cate Blanchett and Gwenyth Paltrow) Purple Noon/Plein Soleil (starring Alain Delon) Both based of the first book in the 5-part-book-series 'The Ripliad' by Patricia Highsmith - The Talented Mr Ripley. I think Patricia Highsmith passed before the Matt Damon movie was in production so we don't have her opinion on it, but I do know that even though she didn't like a pretty major plot change at the ending of Plein Soleil, she did wholly approve of the casting of Alain Delon. If you like stories about cunning, manipulative people who like the nice things in life, you'll like Tom Ripley. There's a series of all 5 books coming out at some point, starring Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley. Seriously, I really think you'll like both movies and the books (there are some other movies based on later books but I haven't seen them yet so I don't know if they're any good).

I can understand the shock, but i`ll have you know that SB is in large part a regurgitation of quite a few movies before it (The Talented Mr Ripley most of all). Good actors though, and great cinematography/production design. But dig deeper. And the hype for it will... burn away :P.
@PowerDiva9 ай бұрын
Did you notice that each of the shocking scenes got progressively worse though... that's what I think a lot of people miss. They focus on the shock factor and don't realize that each one has a purpose. It's a slow pulling back of the layers on Oliver's character. The bath scene was pure obsession, but when he gets with Venetia and lies about it afterwards, we realize he's also a manipulator. By the time we get to the grave scene we understand he's completely sick in the head. Something's wrong upstairs. Oliver was a sociopath.

@colleenwhalen69816 ай бұрын
"Saltburn" was compared in film reviews as a hybrid between "The Talented Mr. Ripley" meets "Brideshead Revisted". Nope, not even remotely close.....because both of those firms were brilliant whereas "Saltburn" is just turgid, creepy, shock value homeoerotic bottom feeder sludge....a muddled attempt at a quasi-psychological thriller, horror movie and sexually repulsive scenes solely for the sheer shock value just to be utterly repulsive. Repulsive for the Sake of Being Repulsive. I watched the first 27 minutes on Amazon Prime and was so bored, that I put it on hold while I read several film reviews. Then I read all the spoilers and it turned my stomach when I learned how putrid what was in store for me, if I continued watching "Saltburn". SPOILER ALERT - like BIG TIME SPOILER ALERT - so creepy, low income Oliver Quick the loner, misfit, nerdy, hanger-on, social climber Scholarship Boy at Oxford, turns out to be a necrophiliac serial murder who kills off most of the aristocractic family and winds up inheiriting the entire castle and the estate. Completely IMPROBABLE since British aristocrats would never in a million years leave the inheiritance to the enromous fortune, the castle and entire estate and manor to someone they only knew for a summer who is not a blood relation. The castle and the manor estate would have definitely been left to a cousin, an uncle, or SOME SORT OF BLOOD RELATIVE - typically under the system of primogeniture which has been the standard in England since 1066 Battle of Hastings and the founding of the British Royal family - who inheirits the estate is a MALE RELATIVE and the oldest male relative In an aristocratic family that wealthy and prominent if ALL the relatives quickly wind up dead under mysterious circumstances there would have been an inquest and a detailed investigation. Oliver Quick is nothing more than an interloper and it was utterly incogrous that he would have inheirited the vast wealth and castle after murdering the entire aristocratic family! I decided to slog through this muddle ONLY because I wanted to see the performance of Rosamind Pike and Carey Mulligan. They both co-starred together in the wonderful British film "An Education". I am also an admirer of Richard E. Grant - but even those three outstanding actors could not save this turgid muddle of a film. If truth be told, I actually enjoyed watching this Reaction Review of the two hilarious gal pals who host Demon Trash, than the actual piece of crap movie. Are they sisters, cousins? They look so much alike.........very amusing patter as they go through the film..............Oh well, I had a free 7 day trial on Amazon so at least I did not waste money to buy a ticket to see it in a theatre.
