Just to let you know that I get excited every time I see you have a new video. It's the first thing I look for every time I look at the youtube homepage. Thanks for your great footage.

Great video as always. Prefer the transitions you used with this new software. Learning curves can always be discouraging. John made it out twice now. Great to see him back on the water.

Hi salty🙋🏽, just want to let you know that me and my husband really enjoy your videos, we try to watch them as soon as they go up. We are in S. Florida too, in the forth lauderdale area,we love to fish🐟...but we mostly fish on the pier because going on a charter boat is so expensive and 9/10 times we don't catch 😔. Do you know anywhere that we can go fishing on land? We sometimes go to the keys and Naples as well. Keep the videos coming we love them 😃

Nella Bella Good day Nella..I am glad to have you on this channel enjoying the videos... it truly is a labor of love. I don't do any fresh water fishing as I am in love with saltwater now... hehehe! But, let me give you some advice..STOP going on those charters. Think of tit this way, with the $ you spend on a couple charter trips, you can buy a couple of kayaks and fish both fresh and salt backwaters. I spent a lot of time kayaking and putting a lot of fish on the table PLUS the exploring is half the fun in a Yak... Or, you can save that $ and work your way into a good used 14' boat and eventually up to a bigger boat and YOU can go where the charters go. I did that yesterday in my 17' Key West boat. It was a perfect day and I went about 15 miles out and there was a big 'ol party boat out there with maybe 100 people fishing from it. And we filled up our cooler and I sure doubt that every person on that charter did the same...
@grandnel9 жыл бұрын
SaltyKayak thank you, we eventually want to buy a small boat, we go kayak fishing in the in-let and through the mangroves sometimes. We stop with the charters because we were not really catching. Thank u for the tip ☺😊

Great video, Lane. I held my breath when you were de-hooking those cudas. You ought to get a cheap long handle de-hooker. those nasty things. They can take your hand off. I'll be going out next week if I get all my honey-dos done.

I have 2 - 6500.. I believe they are 6500.. the paint is all wore off and I have had them for several years.. might be 6000. But they are in the 6000 range.

What kind of pole were you using when you hooked the cuda you mention you had 80lb braid
@SaltyKayak8 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio, That was my Ugly Stik BWS1102 Heavy Action. That other yellow pole was an Okuma.... not the quality of the Ugly Stik.

I've noticed more circle hook use recently. Are you starting to get a feel for them? I made the switch about 15-20 years ago (required in the Gulf now) and couldn't go back to J-hooks now if I wanted to. But, it was sure rough sailing in the beginning learning to NOT set the hook. Anyway, I thoroughly enjoy the videos, keep them coming!

Good morning lane hope everything is good I need some advice from you I have a penn pursuit 6500 reel with 80 lb braid I need a good pole that would hold that reel something heavy action what do you recommend? Thanks aging
@SaltyKayak8 жыл бұрын
Hi Antonio, I personally recommend a Ugly Stik BWS 1101 Heavy Action 7' ONE piece pole. Stay away from the 2 piece poles. And if you are going to use your Pursuit in the ocean, take the side plate off and fill that cavity with lithium grease. Take the spool off and put a bunch of lithium grease in there too. Pursuits are at the bottom of the 'sealed' line of Penn reels (I have 2) and they will last a lot longer if you can keep the salt water out of those internal parts...

Tom Chesebro Hi Tom... I had no way to put those big boys in the cooler. I may try one if I get a small one but I have read in several places that especially the bigger ones can have high concentrations of Ciguatera Toxin but the smaller ones are ok. If I am having a 'no catch' day and I can put a small 'cuda in the cooler, I will give it a try.. thanks...
@alexiangelo82549 жыл бұрын
Why do you put a hole in the snapper? And why don't you keep the really big ones? Please reply 👍
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Alexi Angelo Hi Alexi.. when you pull a Snapper or grouper up from deeper water, their air bladder will expand faster than they can equalize the expanding air. We fishermen that go off shore are supposed to have a 'venting tool' in which we can poke in the side of the fish and the air will come out of the hole in the vent tool and when thrown back in the water, the fish will be able to swim back down to safety. Otherwise, it would just bob on the surface and eventually die. Here on the East coast of Florida, the SAFMC has determined that Red Snapper are over fished and it is against the law to keep one. That is why you see me and John throwing them back.. Often, we catch Red Snapper 9 out of 10 fish and the FACT is they are not over fished... but you have to obey the law right or wrong.

Hey Salty.. I was wondering if you noticed that Cobia swim under the boat while you were wrangling up that HUGE Snapper?
@m16masta739 жыл бұрын
At 11:58, it is either a big cobra or a remora.
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
Charlie Sisson Hi Charlie.. it was actually a small shark sucker. And it stuck to the bottom of my boat wehn I moved to another area and John actually caught it when he just had his bait hanging over the edge of the boat...
@awsomeisawsome999 жыл бұрын
have you been to ponce inlet and what do you feel is the best bait and set up ?
@SaltyKayak9 жыл бұрын
sam reiff Hi Sam. Ponce is my home inlet and I go out of her about every other day. I haven't fished our small jetty area for months since I prefer to visit the reefs outside of Ponce BUT, I hear they are catching some nice Mangroves along the jetty and catching a fer Red Drum around the tip. Now, my minimum fishing line is 65lb braid and 60 lb mono leader and 3/0 hooks. That way, if I hook into a Trigger or a Red Drum, I can get it to the boat. The best bait you can get right now for the jetty and Mangroves or Red Drum is live finger mullet...

Ooohhh Salty ,, first of all i have to tell you .. I'm a huge fan of your channel i have watched every single video ,, i don't miss one ,,, i gotta tell you though i can't believe you threw that cuda back i love barracuda meat i gotta tell you it's one of the most delicious fish out there,, i know some of them are sick with ciguatera ,,, so i guess is big risk ,,, i have caught my share of them and utterly ate them ,,, lol anyways keep up the good work ,,, you're the best

Kratos zeus Hi Kratos.. I think I need a bigger boat and a bigger cooler. It always is a bit of a let-down when the biggest fish of the day are the first 2 and the rest of the day it's just the smaller ones. If I do pull in a smaller cuda that can fit in the cooler, I might just give it a try on the table..

B Krow Sad isn't it? I mean since the majority of the fish we all catch at the reefs is Red Snapper, somebody needs to be fired for making such a devastating error.
