There’s no way that seller didn’t know the engine was seized and a big hole in the sump! Why can’t people be honest! Shame you didn’t see the hole before committing to buying it or test the engine. Oh well. Good luck with the repairs.

Depends.. if its crashed at night then been recovered and dropped off then they probably didn't know... the car was fucked anyway so it's not like they were going to go round and carry out an inspection

The previous keeper knew full well that motor was seized. With a hole in the sump that big it would have dumped it’s oil in a matter of seconds and probably whilst travelling at some speed. 😔

Reclamet to the rescue again. You were meant to get that car and repair it. Yes you have had to buy the engine and gearbox. I think I would leave the two together in case the other gearbox was damaged in some way. Await the updates on this. Good Luck Rob and Chris. By the way why have you not brought a bigger recovery truck as more and more of what you buy are a lot heavier than the current transporter can deal with?

The car was registered in March 2019 according to your check, but it had the crash in November 2022 with no MOT recorded, which is probably explainable but to me it looks like the car had no MOT at the time of the accident.

Not sure if anyone has said yet but keep your gearbox lads. It will be coded to the car and have component protection. You could swap mechatronic unit over but if your box is fine then keep that.

What a touch from reclaimat. That's a big lump of an engine. Think you saved a fortune in just gaskets and auxillary stuff. Keeping the box and engine together sounds like a better plan.

I ran into the problem with an A5 1.8 TFSi Black Edition from that place beginning with C, it had a plastic sump which had been cracked and then ran until it seized solid. I did rebuild the engine and fitted a steel sump and my Daughter is still driving it and loves it.

Yes, at 1:04 you can see oil on the sellers drive. I wonder how long the engine was running after the oil started leaking out of the hole in the sump. The people in the car must have known the engine had blown

Seems to have all worked out well despite that major setback so far. Also don't forget transmission fluid was likely drained during the de-pollution. Check levels before initial fire up.

Be interesting to take out glow plugs and drop some diesel, or trans` fluid down the bores and let it soak for few days and then try to turn it. If its been standing dry for ages ya never know.....like you said " It was running before it crashed". You`ve got your safety net with the replacement engine so worth a try as it could potentially save a few pennies..... and a lot of time. Either way, just like a phoenix from the flames it`ll no doubt be up and running by the weekend 😉😂😂

Rob if that car had been sitting on concrete youd have spotted that sump ,if you look back at footage you can see all oil soaked into dirt underneath .
