Salve Regina @ Notre-Dame de Paris

The "Salve Regina" is one of four Marian antiphons sung at different seasons with in the Christian liturgical calendar of the Western Churches. The Salve Regina is sung in the time from Trinity Sunday until the Saturday before the first Sunday of Advent. In the vernacular as a prayer to the Virgin Mary, the Hail Holy Queen is the final prayer of the Rosary.
The work was composed during the Middle Ages most probably by a German monk Hermann of Reichenau and originally appeared in Latin, the prevalent language of Western Christianity until modern times. Traditionally it has been sung in Latin, though many translations exist. These are often used as spoken prayers.

Regrettably, the "modern church" has purged all Latin singing from local parishes (along with the Greek Kyrie Eleison - the Latin church's link to its sister Greek Eastern rites - what John Paul II called "the other lung of the Church"). Over 1,000 years of Western plainchant was jettisoned from Latin rite Catholic worship beginning in the 1970s, contrary to the actual instructions laid down by Vatican II.

I was confused by the comments here until I figured that they were not in chronological order. Can this be fixed? When I was young, this hymn was sung after Mass in the Franciscan Friary in Athlone, Ireland. Even then it raised the hairs on the back of my neck. I knew the words because I sang in the choir in another part of the same Parish. While Notre-Dame de Paris is out of commission why not attend Mass and Benediction in the Sacre-Coeur Basilica in Montmartre. Equally beautiful experience. You don't have to be any particular brand of Catholic to like this. You don't even have to be a Christian.
