This entire show - filmed on Jimmy's 26th birthday - is absolute fire. One of their greatest filmed shows. Of course you'll also get lots of comments referencing the 1973 performance in MSG. John Bonham was a force of nature.

John Henry Bonham is still the best drummer in Rock and Roll history to this day- everyone has tried but no one can , should or will be able to play the drums even close to his expertise-If you’ll notice how he crosses his arms to hit the drums harder- also the only drummer in history to not just keep the rut hum but also follow lead guitar- nuch less a guitar player like Jimmy Page and his triplets can’t be matched till this day- always middle of set, so everyone else can rest-Bonzo seemed to never need rest-The GREATEST EVER- listen closer to other songs-he was the driving force behind Led Zeppelin- there would have been no Zeppelin without BONZO!!!!!

Oh...and this was in the middle of a concert...and Zeppelin didn't do sets...they played 3 to 4 hours straight every night. Also they never did a song the same way...even this one was always different.

Bonham's solo, which he did just over halfway through the concert, was incredible. Regarded as the greatest rock drummer of all time, that's no surprise. LZ didn't have "sets". They would start playing and didn't stop until they were done. The entire concert, which is one of my favorites, is very much worth a watch if you've got the time. LZ improvised a lot during live performances and watching the interactions between them is really fun. They just loved what they were doing.

I feel so fortunate that I saw Zeppelin twice & they were amazing. I saw this drum solo, and was in the audience when they filmed the concert scene in the Song Remains the Same. I remember sitting there in the audience & they announced we were going to participate in their movie. I remember them putting up cameras to film the whole concert...amazing memory...

In my opinion and I know millions of others the absolute best rock drummer hands down. Watching him play I describe as watching human liquid. The flow and motion is so smooth while he beats the drums like they owe him money.

John Bonham was the greatest drummer ever! One of the things about Zeppelin that was unique was that each member was a master musician...also Bonham was originally a jazz drummer and he followed the guitar...then JPJ followed the drums and Robert just goes in and out of the music! You HAVE to watch their live performances even if it gets blocked!

I'm glad you got the video up! Congrats! Robert sometimes introduced this as "Pat's Delight" (named after Bonzo's wife, Pat) or as "Over the Top". I don't know who, if anyone, inspired him to drum by hand alone but some of his influences were early soul music sounds like the Isley Brothers, jazz legend Buddy Rich, Cream drummer Ginger Baker, and Carmine Appice from Vanilla Fudge. Sometimes his fingers would get cut by the drum rims when he played like that. It's said he played so loud, that when he was in other bands before Zep, they'd regularly get tossed out of the venue because of noise complaints. At one point with Zep, he got a second bass drum but that setup didn't last long because it was too loud. As time went on, this solo could last a half hour. Since you liked this instrumental, and you figured a way to show the video, maybe you should go back and watch Jimmy perform the instrumental White Summer/Black Mountain Side from the first album. He did an excellent performance of it at this same concert from Royal Albert Hall. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXu0kKWAh5isedU

Glad you’re feeling better Sal! 🤗. Nah…he wasn’t tired. Zeppelin routinely did three hour concerts. Plus, when off touring, Bonzo worked hard on his farm in the Black Country of England. He relished manual labor….it was how he relaxed from the stress of touring. That and REALLY fast cars.

Glad you did this one live! Led Zeppelin is truly a unique combination of the greatest talent ever that had unbelievable chemistry on stage. When you get the chance, check out as many live videos as you can, as they are all different from the studio versions (which are also great) and shows their brilliant ability to improvise.

One reasons Bonzo was a great drummer is that he studied jazz drummer Buddy Rich. And then he tuned his drums as a jazz drummer would. That's why his sound is so unique.

It was different every time. Tbh, that's pretty much true for all Zeppelin's live performances. They'd play maybe 4 hour concerts and large parts of it were improvised jam sessions, with the occasional amazing solo thrown in. All 4 members are leading candidates for the title of GOAT, on their particular instrument/s. A ridiculously talented group of musicians! We'll likely not see the like again. :)

I always thought Bonzo was trying to mimic the sound of a racing car engine. If you watch the SRTS solo when the car is racing it sounds like its matched with the race car. Always thought it was brilliant but maybe I'm wrong... Still sounds awesome.

I had the pleasure of seeing them in concert 3 times and Moby Dick was a little different each time. And sometimes longer! He even had a couple of bass kettle drums. Now you know why he will always be the best that ever was.

Hopefully you'll get to Bonzo's Montreux, a track off the Coda album. Recorded in 1976, but never made it onto an album. It probably would've fit on the Presence album, or maybe In Through The Out Door.

John Bonham, often cited as the best rock drummer and no doubt, one of the best ever. I often see him on top of polls for best rock drummer. He, Neal Peart Keith Moon, Carl Palmer, Bill Ward and Ginger Baker are often cited in these things and there are many more great ones but they certainly left their mark. On an aside, in time when time permits, if you love Led Zeppelin, you probably would also love to react to Pink Floyd, The WHO, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. All are on a similar level and are huge names in Classic Rock. Enjoy! 🎵

What a shame. I think he was only 32 when he died 10 year later. You should at some point watch heart's tribute to them. His son play the drums. he also plays the drums on the reunion concert from around the same time.
