Along with Peter Gabriel's IN YOUR EYES, (after dating her briefly) this song is also written about the singer's love interest, ROSSANNA ARQUETE (Brother David was in the SCREAM MOVIES, her sister,Patricia, the star of NBC's MEDIUM). This made her the 2nd most written about woman in rock history with Eric Clapton/George Harrison's ex wife, Patti Boyd (having nearly 10 songs written about her) being the first.

It was a joke. "The song was written by David Paich, who has said that the song is based on numerous girls he had known. As a joke, the band members initially played along with the common assumption that the song was based on Rosanna Arquette, who was dating Toto keyboard player Steve Porcaro at the time. Arquette herself played along with the joke, commenting in an interview that the song was about "my showing up at 4 a.m., bringing them juice and beer at their sessions"

Thanks my friend!!! You have found gold itself, Toto is the biggest, the best; David Paich on piano; Steve Lukather, on guitar; Jeff Porcaro on drums (he died very young and in a ridiculous accident, he was a genius); Bobby Kimball, on vocals; Mike Porcaro on bass (in this video although I think the album was recorded by David Hungate) and Steve Porcaro on keyboards (although he was not a permanent member of the band); excellence 100% Other songs: Africa, Till the end, Pamela, Hydra, Child Anthem, 99, well, it would be naming almost their entire discography, which is incredible. Just a little information about Toto. Several of the members were very in demand studio musicians. There is a very famous '70s singer named Boz Scaggs, and his hit album in the mid '70s called Silk Degrees has several of Toto's members as the studio band. Boz actually suggested to them that they should start their own band and shortly after that Toto existed. The woman who was dancing in the video is Cynthia Rhodes. She is a triple threat dancer, singer, and actress. She was famously in Dirty Dancing as Patrick swayze's friend who was pregnant. She was also in another famous video by Richard Marx, who she later married, called "Don't mean nothing". But my favorite thing that she did was she was in part two of Saturday Night Fever with John Travolta, a movie called "Staying Alive". You have to listen to her song "finding out the hard way" from the soundtrack of the movie. She has a beautiful voice. Back to Toto, please do "hold the line". If you liked Bobby Kimball's voice in Rosanna, you're going to love his lead vocals on "hold the line". kzbin.info/www/bejne/iquskIicp6pgaLcsi=iBL9CE3Wcn8xqZNw

A little fact people don't know, that ending was never rehearsed. It was only supposed to end with Rosanna, but David Paich (Keyboardist) and Jeff Porcaro (Drummer) improvised the ending part and the band just kept going, in an interview with Steve Lukather (Guitarist) from 2022 from Sunset sound he mentioned that and said, "You don't stop until the band stops". Also its worth mentioning the bassist who played on this record isn't the same guy in the music video, David Hungate was their original bassist but left in 1982 which was then replaced with Mike Porcaro who unfortunately passed away from ALS 9 years ago following the death of his brother Jeff Porcaro back in 1992, David Hungate would return however for Toto XIV in 2015 but would only tour with them from when the album released that same year, they've had other bassists since Mike's unfortunate diagnosis it 2007, other bassists including the Legend Leland Sklar, Nathen East, David Hungate for Toto XIV, Shem von Schroeck, and their latest and current bassist John Pierce.

It's always fun and it kind of blows my mind to see the guys with Toto again and the reactions/comments about them. With Toto you have some of the most crack musicians of their era. These guys have played on albums that have sold hundreds of millions of albums including Steely Dan, Springstein and Boz Scaggs. Tom Scott also plays horns on this track, he arranged the horns and plays on SD's Aja album. I guess I'm kind of bias, I went to HS with the guys in LA, Jeff, Mike, Steve Porcaro, Lukather and Paich, it was a wild and musical time be be in HS to say the least! Tom Scott also went to my HS along with drummer Jim Gordon and Kevin Dubrow of Quiet Riot, I didn't like him much. It's still all very strange. En Toto=In Total, all genres of music. These memories make it a great time to still be alive!

When this song was being recorded, everything after 8:46 here was improvised when David Paich just continued playing and the rest joined in. At the end of Steve's final guitar solo, the band looked into the studio control booth and someone said, "I hope you got that". The Bassist in the video is Mike Pocaro (RIP) as David Hungate had left the band and moved to Nashville.

what I realized after watching so many videos, they have the same of similar producers, both video and audio in a lot of the 80s and early 90s

Toto are just the perfect band that can play any type of music. I love them. Delve even deeper and you won't be disappointed. One of my favourites was not a huge hit - 'I Will Remember'.
