You don't understand what watching an old show does to you until you get old yourself. Watching Carson brings me back to younger days, when the ambition was innocent, and blind. If you don't get the nostalgia feeling in your stomach yet, you will one day. All of a sudden, it just hits you, that homesickness for the past. It's not a bad thing. It's actually a precious thing. I don't mind being older and actually like my life but a clip like this brings back the sweetness of the past.

Wordsworth said it best: Though nothing can bring back the hour Of splendor in the grass, The glory of the flower, We will grieve not, Rather, find strength in what remains behind, In the primal sympathy which, having been, must ever be, In years that bring the philosophic mind. : )

Johnny Carson was so amazing! His greatest gift, was his ability to connect with just about anyone. I love the moment at 8:21 where he says, while touching Kinison, "it's good to have you here". He was putting Kinison at ease. He recognized both his enormous talent, and insecurities at the same time. This was real show business... Professionals.

Carson had his irregular moments though when he would switch moods on guests, but most of the time, ppl that visited the show, he would deliver the service of making them look great. Outside of that, he was an awful person. Pat Cooper said in his book that he was awful in contrast to his personality on television where you figured there was something wrong with him. I am not trying to put him down. I am trying to deliver honesty. I think people watched him not for being funny. His personality sold them to start liking his humor. That's my opinion, and he had his own way of delivering jokes and constructing them which fit only him. He was perhaps the most charming man on television for many decades.

Damn, at 34 years old in 2020 I WISH I COULD’VE Grown Up in the 80’s, let alone see Sam Kinison!!! I remember seeing him for the first time in Back To School and then I seen him on the E! True Hollywood Story in 1999/2000 I thought Damn what a lifestyle, it looked like Fun until you have to pay the price. You are real Lucky to have seen him, Rodney Dangerfield and the Dice 🎲 Man. Comedians back then were HILARIOUS....Took all risks and made you laugh, but then again the world wasn’t so sensitive and we didn’t have social media. If you got time check out this new Docu-Series called The Comedy Store on Showtime. It’s about well The Comedy Store In California. Last nights episode spoke about the Bad Boys of the Club. And when they spoke about Kinison’s death it was surreal, even though I know what happened it still affects to this day! R I P SAM KINISON

@@blacksheepblacksheep5727 Some people need/want the excessive drama at church; I do not. I prefer the whole experience to be more content driven than emotionally driven. A good Christian evangelist/clergyman will often teach you two things in a sermon: 1 That you are bad/broken/unworthy according to the perfection of God. 2 That you can be saved in/from that by the power of Jesus Christ, who makes you acceptable to God. So, in the end, you can be way better off than when you started. Maybe you were never taught this at your church.

I mean if I was a woman I wouldn't love a man either, I think men are the only idiots that actually know how to love, and they know the real pain involved. That is what made Kinnison who he really was, that was the awakening. Women just want a relationship of unreasonable benefits. I saw Sam one night at the Comedy Store in Hollywood, he went on about 1am after the headliner. We had never heard of him. Back then I used to record shows on my mini-tape recorder so I could remember jokes later. Sam's set was so funny, all you could hear on my tape was me laughing to the point of choking. I almost walked out because I couldn't take it. Afterwards everyone was walking to their cars you could hear lots of "OHHHHH OH OH OHHHH" echoing in the dark. About a month later he appeared on Rodney Dangerfield's Young Comedians.

He was one of a kind, definitely! Wow, I wish I could have seen him live! I remember being upset when Sam was here @ The Orpheum theatre in Omaha, Ne. I think it was '89 or '90, and My boyfriend's friend won 2 tickets to the show! My boyfriend got to go & tickets were sold out, so I was a little upset, but I was hoping Sam would make it back again sometime, sadly, he never got that chance.

Sam was a no holds barred super talent and the comedy world missed out in the long run. Johnny is a legend in his own right as well.

Part of what makes this so funny is the three dudes in the background have no rhythm and keep falling out of sync and bumping into each other. Edit: wrote that comment while the video was still going. THANK YOU for including the last portion of Johnny's show...what a surprise! *That* was entertainment. And when Johnny thanked his other guest. Pure class! Today's talk show hosts suck. This was an unexpected time warp to a better place. Thank you!

The reason for the three guys was because Sam was pissed at the Carson show for taking so long to recognize him that he made Carson pay for his three buddies pretending to sing while the real vocals were standing behind the curtain.

Testimony - Between the ages of 15-25 I was a bum, alcoholic, fornicator, adulterer…Couldn’t do nothing in life and had a lazy work ethic…Was a stand-up comedian for 2 years because I saw Sam Kinison perform and I felt I related to him and tried to emulate him in my life. I did. Fornication, adultery, filthy mouth, etc… I appeared in comedy clubs in Philadelphia and South Florida. I was performing at a club where Franklin Ajaye was the headliner and Brian Regan was the opening act. I was one of the other six comedians on the bill that night. I thought I was on my way to fame and fortune. A few years later Sam Kinison died and that “rocked” my world. I thought man if he could die like that (suddenly) who am I? At that time I thought all of my heroes were dead now - Moe, Larry, Curly, Ronnie Van Zant, Elvis Presley, Jim Morrisson, John lennon, etc..Now, Sam Kinision. I realized that life is futile and fleeting and fame and money will not save you in that hour of death… Eventually I realized I was a sinner in the hands of a Holy God. I had broken all of the TEN COMMANDMENTS and there was no hope for my soul. I was guilty. One Sunday night in 1992 instead of watching football or the TV show Married with Children I went to Church and heard an evangelist preach and I knew God was speaking to me through his son Jesus Christ. (Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved) Well, I called upon Jesus to save me, and I was at that same instant. All of the pain and heartbrokeness that I experienced in my life left me. Almost like invisible weights that held me down my whole life left me and I have not been the same since. That same peace and joy can be yours if you let Jesus save you as well. 3

Talk about what could have been! When he goes into his Pentecostal scream, you can tell the church wouldn't contain him forever. Thanks for this post, reminds me of his first HBO appearance on Rodney Dangerfield's comedy special, he showed a taste of his church upbringing. Shame he's not alive today. You know him and Andrew Dice Clay would've done specials together. God bless you, Sam
