I had heard of Zhang Zongchang before, but only briefly. I was told when I was young that he was called The Dog Meat General because dog meat in China is considered quite a delicacy and what was originally what the Emperors ate, ya know, the typical,"Hahaha! Chinese people eat dogs!" type of stuff.

Point of order: The Mensheviks were a very different thing from the White Russians. The Whites were a loose coalition of Liberals, Monarchists, and various other right-wing groups whose only uniting thread was anti-Communism, while the Reds were, well, the Communists, of which the Bolsheviks were only one faction. The Mensheviks were another faction that, though they disagreed with Lenin's dictatorial ideas, were still staunchly Communist. Other groups in the Reds included the Social Revolutionaries, and even non-Marxist Leftists like Makhno's Anarchists. It wasn't until the Reds won the Revolution that the Bolsheviks started purging dissident groups, and things really started going downhill for the Soviet Union.

Pretty sure the "Qing" in "Qing dynasty" is pronounced as "Ching." My reference point is the father of China, Qin Shi Huang, circa something like 220 BC. His title is pronounced something like "Chin Shrr Hwung." Languages are weird.
