What do you got 2.5" between the engine and firewall? With the right bracket and motor mount, you could have saved yourself $1300 on the ls3 accessories drive. Also you probably could have kept the factory oil pan.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV3 жыл бұрын
On this truck we used the 6cyl mounting holes on the frame to mount our bracket kit to. That moved our engine forward and we used some LS3 accessory belt stuff that we already had on hand. Our bracket kit can ALSO be mounted to the V8 mounting holes on the frame, which moves the engine back and creates enough clearance at the radiator for truck/long accessory belt drives as we mentioned in the video @ 9:30.
@Hated_Sien3 жыл бұрын
I litterally am never going to understand the idea of having an empty engine bay, and not addressing the dirty firewall, or frame rails. All it takes is a few hours of elbow grease, and some paint and the engine bay will look brand new with that modern LS in it...
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV3 жыл бұрын
This swap was done during the taping of the TV Show Sam's Garage. Studio time restrictions forced us to do this entire swap including the wiring and fuel delivery in 12 hours, and be able to drive the truck out of the studio when finished. Even though we completely agree with you, we were under a huge amount of pressure on this project and didn't have a spare minute to de-grease or paint anything.

How did you figure your hoses for the build?
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV3 жыл бұрын
We played around with some coat hangar wire and bent it in to the shape we wanted our hoses to go. The we took a trip to the local auto parts store and dug through the options until we found stuff we could work with. It's a little hit and miss, but in the end you'll have something that looks nearly factory!

Can you still use the gas tank in the cab or is it required to place a new one under the bed?? Im assuming the high pressure fuel pump cant be done right in the cab??? I’m looking at doing a LS swap for my c10 next week. If I use the 2003 motor and trans from a Tahoe or Silverado can I use the 2003 drive shaft with my 85 rear end? Or do I need to use the 85 drive shaft to get cut and balanced to work? I never see any one mention driveshaft replacement or fitting when going to LS swaps.
@BROTHERSTruckPartsTV5 жыл бұрын
No one mentions it because circumstances change from swap-to-swap. Like in this case you are using an '85 rear end, some guys who do this on a '71 might be using the stock rear end, etc... In your case, we don;t have enough experience to say for sure you can use the '03 drive train with the '85 shaft and rear end, our guess is you can't. Best way to find out is to get the engine and trans installed, measure the length and check the yokes, then ask a local driveshaft shop. Sorry we couldn't be of more help.

We had the LS around the shop that was taken out of a different build, so that was kind of "FREE". That gave us a few extra bucks to spend on the Holley system which just made the swap easier. All-in we probably spent around $5000-$6000 once all the small stuff was added up.

Not sure what you mean? The Sniper kit is $999-1500 depending on which one you choose. Bracketry for this swap is $720. You'll need a fuel pump, radiator, drive shaft, exhaust and other peripherals which you should probably budget $1500-2000 for. So in the range of $3200-4200 providing you already have the motor/trans.
