Hey sametoken :) Thanks for your incredible videos! In my opinion infinite still lacks the identity of halo. The camera for example wants to much to be like God of war, while earlier titles always wanted to be more like a really good movie with so many different camera angles. The open world (as much as I always wanted it) distracts from the story telling. Also it feels too empty and repetitive. The sandbox is pretty low. Few weapons have a real use. Same with vehicles. Hunter fights don't make fun anymore. They totally messed it up. It feels like no tactic is valuable against them because they move and turn too fast. Explosions and so many details don't feel right. But what bothers me the most is halo infinite has almost no iconic moments. They just reuse the moments and music of the old classic titles but it doesn't feel right or iconic. Oh, and banshees are useless. Completely. Anyways, I love your videos and hope you never stop making them :) Love your voice, cutting, music usage and everything what you invest into a single video. High quality content few people drop on KZbin :) I really would like to have a chat with you during an infinite session. I guess it wouldve be a huge pleasure :)

My only problems with the story is the underuse of the hand of Atriox and I feel like Harbinger was killed off too soon but besides that its a good story. Seeing Chief’s guilt and regret over not protecting Cortana and his relationship with the weapon and Ferdnando are excellent to watch.

Infinite is incredible. The gameplay and story are fantastic, you truly feel like the legend of master chief. There were many tear-up moments. The new equipment and movement are so good, I don't know if I could go back and play Halos without them. Once you adopt the various equipment, I ended up using all of them constantly. Combining them makes you truly the unstoppable force of 117. Wonderful game

Gameplay was the best in the series for me. Polished A.I., finally nailing boss fights, taking the best of every other games level design into account for the hub world, and personally I think the weapon sandbox is perfect. I'm pretty impressed with how the hub world is designed. I loved attacking bases and running off to come back from another angle only to encounter a patrol in the woods that flanked me... that's highly immersive stuff that could never have happened in the curated linear campaigns of the past. I enjoyed how the story was presented as a tasteful love letter to every other Halo game from Combat Evolved to Guardians in one way or another, but I feel like it could have done a lot more with those elements to achieve its own unique identity apart from those games. Apart from the fan service, it was a lot of the same stuff from 4 and 5, harping on memories of Cortana's origin and Chief's childhood, which I hope is laid to rest forever with this story. We skipped over a lot of interesting story only to discover it after the fact, which I'd be fine with if eventually we caught up to the story we were chasing and got to experience some big action set pieces and have Chief play a part in the conflict, but that didn't happen. I liked the relationship drama between Chief and his two newfound friends, but there was a severe lack of stakes or investment in the overarching plot of fighting the Banished... and I don't even care about the vague ancient alien threat.

I agree whole heartily with your entire comment. The moment they said the Endless were so much worse than the flood it almost immediately took me out of the story. And unfortunately the rest of the game did almost nothing to reel me back in, in that respect. The thing that had me play legendary was the impeccable combat! Which I will say may be 2nd only to CE’s legendary difficulty.

I really do have mixed feeling about Infinite's campaign. While I definitely did enjoy playing the game, I deeply felt the emptiness of its semi-open world single biome. Classical Halo linear level structure, with their different biomes and specificities for each levels, feels miles "wider" than Infinite open but boring design. It lets the player create links and "fill in the blanks" between each different ambience, which is a very specific Sci-Fi approach that I love. I also really felt the lack of iconic vehicles moments, and Hunters completely lost their strategic importance as Halo's chess board pieces. Technically wise, Infinite is a big let-down when compared to the promises we had since Slipspace 2018 reveal trailer, from lighting/shadowing, to fx/explosions, volumetrics and dynamic weather. I did enjoy the art design, the camera work and story/narrative - even if it feels like a rushed prequel more than a stand-alone story. Let's see what future DLCs will bring. Gameplay surely is the highest peak for Infinite, with great gunplay, great sandbox additions (grapple hook above all) and amazing rythm during the fights. The only big problem here, as said before, is the astonishing lack of vehicles-driven levels/moments. A lot of people are praising the OST, to me it's neither good nor bad. I can say without a doubt I never felt the excitement Marty O'Donnel gave me (probably because there are not real iconic moments to be underlined by the soundtrack). I can definitely see potential in Infinite, but at the moment it just feels like a nostalgic coating of what Halo had been with Bungie.

I forgot to mention, the unability of the marines/fellow AIs to drive vehicles is also very underwelming. They achieved it in early '00s, how it it possible they coud not implement it now is beyond me (the "oh but it's an open world now!" answer is not acceptable)

What I know is that this game does not totally feel like Halo to me. It's a good game nonetheless.

"Now in this hour of waking, from under brows of stone, a new pale day is breaking and the deep night is gone, sordid now, and mean and small" "The boundless spaces of night contract, and in your opening eyes I see, night born in day, in time eternity." "Out beyond ideas of right doing and wrong doing there is a field, I'll meet you there. When the soul lies down in that grass, the world is too full to talk." "Forgive me, forgive me." "I feel certain, so I'm doing what seems the best thing to do." "You have given me the greatest possible happiness, you have been in everyway all that anyone could ever be." "I can't fight it any longer." "What I want to say is, I owe all the happiness of my life to you." "If anybody could have saved me, it would've been you." I would describe Halo Infinite as the perfect prequel. I know the initial intend of 343 was not to make a prequel,but since 2/3 of the game were cut, I hope to see them in dlcs. Like you said infinite is like a base for future halos to build on. It introduces new characters,provides more information and weight to the banished and their goals and even introduces a threat type,the endless. The story definitely feels light-hearted,not even close to the ambitious halo 2 story for example, however no halo game has matched that storytelling to date. The gameplay is near perfect, although I miss scarab fights. The narrative portrays exceptionally the fact that the UNSC lost,something different,something that only reach has done. Great video! I’m on my second play through of the campaign right now, on Legendary. I can confidently say that I adore this game. The gameplay is, in a word, satisfying. The story is heartfelt and genuine, while I do wish we were doing more in the moment, and not finding out about events already taking place. However, the Pilot, and The Weapon are not only great characters, but they’re great friends to Chief. The Banished have a somewhat tragic story, and depth to them that made them great adversaries. The Marines are wonderful companions to have as you explore and fight your way around Zeta Halo, they’re both funny, and surprisingly uplifting. One of my favorite lines of dialogue from the whole game came from a Marine just when we were traveling through the mountains, “…the difference between life and death is hope...” the grunts are also amazing and hilarious. Yeah, the game is flawed, and arguably unfinished, and unpolished in some ways. Which is frustrating because outside of that, this is an incredible experience. I’m sure down the line, a year from now, this will be a polished and near perfect game. At any rate, I love this game. Can’t wait for more Halo.

Man, you talking about ransacking bases while marines watch in awe really makes me think back to Halo 1-3 days. I typically only played Legendary and didn’t care too much about the marines. My wife and I bought MCC and played through every campaign on legendary while trying to keep the marines alive this time. I had NEVER been so hyped up in my life. They acknowledge your efforts. Dome an elite and they’ll say something about it. Get a multi kill and they’ll say something about it. I feel like so much of Halo 4 was just you by yourself. I don’t remember the marines really talking to Chief much. Maybe I just did a bad job at keeping them alive. But I think Halo Infinite’s campaign really feels like the first true sequel to Halo 3 in so many ways, the marine interaction included. Its the small things like that which make you feel like a badass and encourage you to keep being a badass! Clear those optional missions because those marines are going to say some cool stuff while you do it. “One one seven in the freaking flesh!”

It did end too soon, but I think they have a lot of the story planned out. Sounds like they had to cut down how much of the story they could tell in this version we got. But I still think they did an excellent job. The Harbinger setting up for the next story they want to tell, and Escharum being a very well done villain who really isn’t just an evil guy. He’s not like the typical mustache twirling villains who is like “Yes, I want to rule the entire world because I’m evil and I like being evil.” He reminds me of a more brutal elite. Elites weren’t necessarily bad people, they were just on the other side of the war from us. Brutes in Halo 2 were shown to be pretty awful people. Escharum comes across less like the type of guy Tartarus was and more like an honorable soldier. But anyway, all that is to say I think they did tell a good contained story with Escharum while setting up for the next big story in the game.

Halo infinite is my favorite open world game of all time, the side content being Fobs, rescuing marines and taking down HVTs feel right for the chief, weapons and Ammo being free of cost once unlocked allows experimentation, the story missions are fun and the correct length, no level is overly long like two betrayals or too short like High charity, all of the weapons feel great. Last but not least halo infinite ran good enough on my i7 1050 laptop with most graphical settings low so it really made my Christmas a lot better due to me being unable to go back home as a result of international travel Covid restrictions
@m00028562 жыл бұрын
I also have to agree with the poor variety of environments to explore, but I can also forgive it to some extent. Theres so much riding on this game to be a success, and I think them trying to add to the scope of the world could have made the overall game worse. They took the safer route, but I think it shows proof of concept that this type of thing is fun. But the reason I can’t fault the game when it seems like a regression in Halo’s previously diverse level design is due to the fact that we are no longer going from hallway to hallway to hallway disconnected from what’s going on. There’s essentially no more loading screens between levels. We don’t go from Cairo station to Mombasa in Halo 2, we just take a cutscene there instead. In this game, you walk between the majority of the missions. There’s almost no location in the game you can’t get to in the over world. I’ve been able to go back to specific areas (although you can’t go back inside to replay the levels sadly) later. You couldn’t do that in past games. You needed to take a cutscene spaceship or a cutscene Gravemind teleport. You couldn’t just walk back to Delta Halo after you left. So it’s a different way to play the campaign, and I think it’s a very fun way to do it as well. I’d like to see a more traditional Halo story sometime, but I do still want to see more of this open world now. I can only hope they vary up the landscapes and add weather effects.
@juantsu20002 жыл бұрын
Your comment pretty much sums up my feelings on the whole “environment diversity” debate. I see a lot of people dunking on the game because it lacks different biomes, but I feel that’s an unfair criticism because most of the time it compares it to previous games which were WAAAY more different in design. Also, lack of biomes isn’t the same as bad game. Batman Arkham City and Knight are fantastic games yet both feature the same-y city environment through and through. People should criticize the game for what it is, not what they want it to be. Would different biomes be beneficial? Perhaps. But that’s not what Halo Infinite was striving for.
@m00028562 жыл бұрын
@@juantsu2000 yeah exactly. People don’t realize how hard it is to make an open world game with unique biomes. Like try to imagine Halo 2’s campaign as open world. How do you go from Cairo Station to New Mombasa to Delta Halo without making them separate locked off areas?

The more I think about it, the more I think Infinite wasn't made by 343, but by people who grew up playing the Bungie trilogy; the kind of people who talk about the old Halos like how old men talk about their old cars. (Yes, I'm aware of the outsourcing.) I wonder if they built the Halo they remembered in their hearts, like they took a photo of it through their rose-tinted glasses, then built that game down to the last detail. I don't have any Halo nostalgia (first played with MCC on PC), but Infinite feels filtered through that nostalgia. Parts are downright magical: some remade music tracks (Through the Trees specifically) would sound almost at home in a fantasy game; maybe that's how it always sounded like to the composers. Wash, rinse, and repeat for other parts of Infinite. (Maybe Infinite is the way Halo always looked like to the asset artists/modelers, etc.) I fear that in 10 or 15 years, kids whose first videogame was Halo 4 (when they were 12) will start making Halo games. (They'd have nostalgia for *that*.) I wonder which will win out in the long run: Bungie's designs or 343's re-imagining.

After playing it on both heroic and legendary, I'd say semi open world is not Halo's strongest suit, it was fun as a sandbox to do silly things but for the story it damages the progression to some extent, and personally being burnt out by Ubisoft games with this same open world to do checklist, it wasn't an exciting thing to see, that being said, at least here it didn't over stay it's welcome, it wasn't too many things to find, audio logs and propaganda towers aside. As many have previously mentioned the lack of biomes hurt the game as well, not to mention there's a chunk of the map you can't explore, which is the same disappointment I felt from Cyberpunk 2077 to find out there were parts of the map you can't explore. The story was short( Counting only main story missions, not exploration.) But was interesting enough and enjoyable, the emotional moments in this one were something I missed from Halo 4, which showed Chief's human side, something I hope they keep pushing for, but there's a lot of loose threads, we need something that fills the gap between the 6 months Chief was down for sure. All that being said, what this game did deliver on really well, is the promise for an exciting new adventure with chief, just like Halo CE, Halo Infinite is the prequel to something bigger down the road, let us hope 343 pushes for a bigger and more complex story down the road, with more characters to meet and more mysteries to discover and hopefully new factions to fight against, as fun as the jackals, grunts, elites and brutes are to shoot at, after so many games it does get a bit old.

I have played and beat the game on NORMAL twice already. It is true that the AI learns from you and it is able to almost predict your actions or reactions. So the boss fights were not always the same and I got my a$$ kicked multiple times. Even when I knew how to beat the boss, the system put up an awesome fight. That and my ego wouldn't allow me to leave a fight unfought!. Great job 343 I am hooked yet again on a great Halo game.

I'll get an xbox series s at some point. My last xbox was 360, so I haven't even played Halo 5. But this one looks really good, and I'd really like to play some Halo multiplayer again, Infinite but also 2 and 3! There's some other games I'd definitely play, like Mirror's Edge 2.

The campaing was so confusing at 1st. I was expecting a fightt against Cortana and guardians. That big leap in the story was the main confusion! Banished are a great opponent i never had fun like that since halo 2 ! What i want in the future dlc ! More temperature change in levels. Like Snow , Nights, rain I also really want more info on how cortana ruled the galaxie what was the attemp to stop her

Always love the music and atmosphere in your videos and agree with the points re the campaign. Seriously wish they'd make the marines open to simple commands!

Unfortunately, it's not actually an open-world, the 343 Developers publicly said it's not an open world but a Sandbox. I'm a little disappointed at the lack of terrain, the shortness and repetition of the campaign and the lack of change of scenery. I had such high hopes, but was hoping for so much more playability. I'm still playing cyberpunk a year later doing side quests and exploring. I've done literally every single thing there is to do in infinite campaign and it's depressingly barren now.
@Suumac_2 жыл бұрын
Nah, the story is a mess tbh, there's so much that feels like we're missing huge chunks of content like the battle on the Infinity, why Cortana kills herself to stop Atriox even though she can wipe out a planet in seconds, where is Locke since his helmet is on hyperius, the pilot is a super forced and rushed character that we're supposed to feel sorry for, and half the cutscenes are holograms, don't even get me started on the open world being empty, plus the campaign levels are so not memorable, like try to name one level, anyone?
@captaincurt3962 жыл бұрын
Is anyone else upset that it seems like half the story happened off screen and we found out through audio logs? Like the games beautiful yes but felt like the story itself left much to be desired. Idk we’ll see what they offer going forward..

I really enjoyed the campaign overall. But the last third or a quarter realllllly felt like a slog at times. The moment that fast travel more or less gets disabled until you get through the game it just felt like one long run on hallway. It did get broken up a bit in the last 2 or 3 levels after you come back out into the sun light for a brief moment. But those waves in Heroic got pretty tedious for me. Really felt like that last portion was absolutely and completely designed around coop (as indicated by several vehicles just sitting right there with a bunch of available seats but no Marines to help you...) I was grateful to get past the last part of the game and get back to screwing around in the open world again. Probably won't go back to replay the story and go get skulls or missed logs til coop drops (or they allow access to missions directly from a menue instead of having to straight up restart the game) Either way. Halo is back and it was a great addition to the series which brought this player back who swore off Halo games after 4 and then felt like the final nail in the coffin was 5 after seeing that game's story... I have hope again. I had tons of fun despite the problems I had with it. Had a stupid grin in my face that I haven't had since Halo 3 while chugging game fuels with my idiot high school friends LANing to beat the campaign on the night if release. So yeah. Shit was fun. Had flaws. A good bit of frustration at points. But hella hella hella fun

It's open world doesn't offer much in the way of extended playability- but I don't think its supposed to either. This was never meant to be an ubisoft game where its littered with thousands of pointless things to do. I don't believe anyone wants/would be comfortable with the Master Chief doing a fetch and run and a "grab these 10 toads to unlock the crystal dildo key"- Its Semi Open world is meant to expand on how you approach the campaign- your gameplay choices. Not to extend the hours it takes to complete it- Gives you hundreds of ways to play it without taking 100's of hours to complete.

halo hit our child hood right back where we all started nearly 20 whole years ago long live master chief and long live Cortana and i hope we get scarab battles or dynamic scarabs hell even banished and unsc convoys we can attack or protect and call in reinforcements to future fob bases as well as future campaigns

After 14 years we finally got a game that feels like a sequel to Halo 3. The enemies make more sense, the art style is back, the characters are funny again, and the aliens are also funny.
@Donnirononon2 жыл бұрын
Quite honestly. The art is awesome but Slipspace was not a good idea. nVidia showed off VMS in 2017 asteroids demo and Epic did it with Nanite in UE5. Cry, Frostbite, Slipspace, all the competition is 5 years behind. Slipspace was built to embrace PBR and modern post processing effects of the 2012-2016s. Imagine what amounts of money they spent on Slipspace for an engine that cant competete with UE and never will since UE has over the last years got such a big user and contributor base.
@Spabsa2 жыл бұрын
I know the graphics were REALLY not that good. The game looked like a cartoon
@Donnirononon2 жыл бұрын
@@Spabsa Graphics are good enough but the tech just is not there. Popins and distance shadows would NOT be a problem with UE5 at all, also it would run waay smoother since LOD is not a thing with VMS/Nanite. Also Lumen is BUILT to embrace PBR, it solves the issue of flatness we saw in early stages of the game with less details baked in the albedo of materials. UE5 tech would have made this game great simply as that but instead they spent millions for an engine that is already outdated. Sure slipspace is optimized for infinite but it is how games have been made the past 10 years, just optimized. Nanite on the other hand is an entirely different approach to the problem of open world and infinite detail.

I feel like you aren't giving Halo 1 through 3 their dues. Those games actually were quite massive in scale. The engine loaded in the areas, then the assets and NPCs and once a large area is loaded in, it remains loaded in, and the enemies continue to fight each other whether you leave the area or not, the battle (in the large areas) usually continue without you taking part in it. Halo 3 does this especially well and it was a main point of pride for Bungie when they were developing the game.
