Honkai Star Rail released a special album featuring the music of Robin, the newest character in Star Rail. This album features three songs - If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking, Sway to My Beat in Cosmos, and Hope is the Thing with Wings - all of which are featured in the Star Rail 2.2 story! I'm a drummer and we'll be reacting to all of Robin's songs and providing in depth breakdowns of each song and what makes them special!

Another thing about the clapping especially in hope is the thing with feathers is that the song is diegetic, meaning its happening in world and not just as boss music for a game, with robin singing to the people of penacony to get them to wake up so it feels extra appropriate to get them to join in

Well the whole thing is Sunday and his choir represent the followers of Enas order as one. While the Trailblazers and the Echo of Afar of the Astral Express represent the people of Penacony that are not part of the OAK family which was a secret cult for Ena. Which is why Himekos "WITNESS THE WILL OF THE WEAK" like goes so hard when its her turn to shout out her ideals. Sunday and by extension Ena, see people as weak and not able to decide things for themselves.

As a A/V guy for a church that does modern/arena music, I completly agree with you. If I can stop one heart from hurting and even Hope Is The Thing With Feathers is something I would expect from a Hillsong, Bethel or any of the modern church music.

I really think this is sort of intentional on their part since there are already a lot of church motifs with the Robin and Sunday story. Sunday is just straight up named after the Christian holy day. Sunday's music and the theater music is very old Hymnal and operatic; everything is orderly and grand. Then you have Robin with the pop and gospel like sounds; something free and down to earth.

Well the whole Harmony arc of Penocony have a very Christian theme to it. Ena being the Old testament and Xipe being the New testament. Order through obedience for safety and security, or Harmony through mutual operations and family many voices as one.

Listen "We hope in the light of truth" is one thing but there was absolutely no need for "kingdom" to be in the lyrics if they didn't want it to sound like born again pop

yess “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” totally gives me Christian pop vibes! if i were to play this song to some of my Christian family members who know nothing about HSR, i don’t think they’d clock it as a song from a video game lol and while ik this song is obviously another reference to Emily Dickinson since it shares a title with another one of her poems, some of the lyrics in the song like “through the shadows of despair”, “across the plains, in valleys deep”, and “stride to our kingdom and see the light of day” make me believe that this ~Christian pop~ vibe could be intentional cause it really reminds me of this famous Bible verse: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me: thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me.” and in a way i suppose these vibes/potential references kinda makes sense considering how the Halovians are obviously based on angels and how especially Sunday and Ena The Order have strong Christianity influences in their lore + aesthetics 🤔

There is a fourth song in her album listed under her album in the official Hoyo physical album merch that you can preorder now. It’s not official officially out yet, but there was a music producer hinting a new song for 2.3 in Robin’s Demo trailer. All we know about that song is the title, “Had I Not Seen the Sun”. We aren’t sure if it’ll be a different song for 2.3 or “Had I Not Seen the Sun” will be a CD exclusive song.

These have been the best ost's personally in my opinion star rail has released so upbeat and catchy. Speaking of Robin songs there are also a few others that's are slapping as hard as these ost's are. In over all hindsight tho looking forward to the future songs and music hoyomix cooks up.

I like to think of the drums in Hope is a Thing with Feathers as the Astral Express. During the verses and the pre-chorus the train is leaving a stop so the drums are consistent and steady with fills being added as it speeds up. During the pre-chorus itself the drums fade until the build-up as a moment of reflection on what this stop in the journey met. The chorus is then when the express finally warp jumps in this emotional, driven, yet cheerful rhythm that falls in line with the spirit that is the Nameless’s never ending journey.

@@LycanMOON The dream train represents the people of Penocony that were not part of the Oak family cult of Ena. Remember the Revolution was helped by 3 trailblazers from the astral express that helped freed the people from the IPC tyrants. Rasaline vanished into the dream scape memoria trying to find out more about it, Mikhal stayed behind to try to help build the world, Tienan went off into the world cause he felt something was off about the FAMILY that formed on penacony, and never made it back even though he intended to go back. Mikhal at some point realized that the Oak family was up to something and helps set in motion the events to stop their plans by literally working with the Will of Penocony itself.

Me and my friends are absolute Robin stans. When her fourth single dropped I copped that shit so fast booooooy! I really hope they continue using her as a in-universe idol and release music. Genshin doesn't really have that vocal aspect to its music but Star Rail has quite a lot of songs with stunning vocal performances: Interstellar Journey, Take the Journey, Wildfire, Pedujara, Samudrartha, WHITE NIGHT and all 4 of Robin's songs.

Speaking of breaking down the structure of HSR songs, have you watched the Dev talk videos on the HSR music? The Song of Distant Planet video series. In the newest video on Penacony's music, they mentioned that they used more Eastern pop song structure but with Western instrumentation for Robin's songs (I'm not sure if it's for "Sway to My Beat in the Cosmos" or "Hope is the Thing With Feathers")

Not gonna lie, I enjoy most musical analysis of games I like, but watching my second monitor while listening, and then checking my first monitor to see someone bopping their head in the exact same way? That's a new experience. And you nailed the last song: It's made for a studio audience, that's sitting in their room alone playing a videogame. When I first played this game and had this song show up, it was meant to represent a planet's worth of people waking up, a train full of people at a time.

Not entirely. The official releases on audio platforms include the full version with verse 2 and the extra chorus (in this video I was listening on Spotify). It's just the version in that video upload that is shortened
