We should all hope they either naturally turn out straight and cis, or that they have the courage and mental stamina to wait until they're 18 then cut all contact with their parents, because otherwise, I seriously worry about their mental health and self esteem. It's hard enough being trans in a generic centrist/liberal household that thinks they're progressive until they actually get confronted with a trans kid and struggle to be comfortable with it. Can't imagine the kind of lifetime psychological damage growing up in a self-sabotaging gay conservative household could cause a kid that's even slightly out of the norm. Instead of being taught to hide or suppress, you'd be taught that you can be open about who you are on the condition of acknowledging your inferiority and submitting to constant condescension from your peers. Global warming is real but any scientist worth his or her salt will tell you it’s not catastrophic and if anything will lead to a world with more food production I’m not saying we should not move towards more sustainable energy I just don’t believe we are there technologically and should not destroy the economy to do so. And I believe the parents should decide what kind of education a child receives if they want it to be religious or not. What business is it of anyone’s? Certainly not the government. The Democratic Party has become the party of corporations. All major industries including the five largest banks give the majority of there campaign contributions to democrats.

Can I just throw myself under the bus and say I use to be somewhat conservative and I thought Glenn beck was a legit person. I was socially liberal but fiscally conservative and really believed in limited government. I thought other Glenn Beck viewers were the same and I was legitimately surprised how quickly I was branded a "Communist " or whatever pejorative was popular around that time who wasn't lock step in line with Beck's religious/political belief. My username was legitimately "Moderationisbest" and I was routinely ridiculed for anything I said(even if it was for limited government). @@hyawill8944 No, it isn't possible logically. Alcoholism is substance abuse, which means being addicted to a specific chemical, and in this case, alcohol. This is considered a disease because frequent consumption of alcohol in large quantities is intrinsically detrimental to the person who's addicted. Being a homosexual means being sexually and/or romantically attracted to someone of the same sex, and that alone has no health implications whatsoever. Alcoholism can't be traced to a single gene, but recent evidence shows a multitude of genes can play a role, and that's the only place where alcoholism and homosexuality share a common ground, and as most human traits can't be traced to a single gene, that's non sequitur. The last thing is that homosexuality can't be categorized as a fetish, a fetish is a sexual desire where the gratification of the person indulging in the fetish is tied to things like clothing, objects or specific parts of a body. Heterosexuality, bisexuality and homosexuality are not fetishes.

Speaking as a gay man, former right-winger, and still a fairly traditional Christian doctrinally (I believe the Nicene Creed), I think what we're seeing here is that Beck's "gut-level" theology (to show compassion, to maintain employment, etc.) is better than LDS theology. The best he can do (after invoking the alcoholism trope) is to say, "I don't know, but I love you." Would that multitudes of conservatives could say such things in good faith.

Beck comparing being gay to alcoholism isn't just insulting in that it makes Rubin's orientation a flaw, it also implies that it's something he needs to work hard to control or even get therapy for. Because if you're an alcoholic, you can't just keep on living drunk from day to day, you have to get help and change and learn how to live with that addiction, but not let it control you. Basically, he's saying: You may always be gay, that may never be "fixed". But you shouldn't live like you are gay. Stop it. 🤔
