Right on both counts: The 'long' tooth is the result of gum recession due to aging. And yes, it was originally used to describe horses. Apparently, a horse's age is difficult to establish by inspection. Checking the teeth was the easiest way for a horse trader to know what he was getting. But used more generally, it just means getting old.

Gums recede. You actually lose calcium density as you age. Horse teeth grow, so checking a horse what was "long in the tooth" was a way to assess the age & thus value of the horse. The horse is a little long in the tooth. Cartilage does continue to grow as you age, so noses & ears get larger. Your hair continues to grow after death. The body is amazing!

Here's my own research: The question I was trying to answer is how many women are registered to vote in the US and I could not get that number but found this instead. More than 8 million new voters will have aged into the electorate since the 2022 midterms. Our Young people and 47% are youth of colour, these are our lefties/swifties. 70% of women in the US are registered to vote. Women vote at higher rates than men typically. White women are more likely to vote Republican, they are still outnumbered by women of different racial backgrounds and they vote Democrat. Looking at Roe v Wade situation created by the Republicans... We can expect a great deal from our Women in this fight for democracy. 2023 161 million registered voters is down by 168 million since 2022. Voter suppression much? Biden won by 8 million. Republicans are purging rolls like crazy to achieve this effect. Less than 2/5th of voters are non-college-educated white (lump in MAGA or reliably Republican) in 2022. Their voter turnout has not increased since 2018. All the Southern States have had voter turnout decline, except Georgia. Bar North Dakota the rest of the country's states have increased. My favourite quote is “You are not alone… Decent Americans outnumber trump supporters 3 to 1” - Bruce Springsteen
