The S90D was provided by SAMSUNG ELECTRONICS for a 30-day review. However, they have no say or input over this comparison.
You can purchase both the Sony and Samsung from our good friends at Value Electronics valueelectronics.com/ or call them directly at 914 723 3344 and ask for Robert or Wendy and please mention Brian at BRIAN'S TECH THERAPY.

I can respect this analysis. For me, the S95D is 'the one' for gaming. But the S90D is up there with the A95L for me. The G4 fell to fourth. Again, this is for my use case and taste - I'm sure there will be plenty of disagreement

S90d can't reach good specular highlights, it's limited. It's clipping when you have the contrast at 50, the best slide is at 45 but still in the highlights / clouds / movie lights, it's loosing details.

@user-ge9ow6lw2c - I was in Best Buy the other day and they had the new Bravia 8 right next to the A80L. To my eyes the B8 looked better as I could see more detail in dark areas and it easily matched the A80L in brightness and color volume.

Hey Brian, you were a huge help to me when i was looking for a tv back in 2019, and i ended up going with the TCL 6 series. It served me very well, but unfortunately, it died a couple of days ago. It feels like perfect timing, though, as of course, I went right to your channel and saw the S90d review. It seems like a great option, but this led to me looking at the s90c. At 55" I can get the s90d for $1700 and the s90c for $1300. Would you say the extra $400 is worth it to go with the s90d. My main uses are gaming, streaming services like Max and Amazon, and the occasional blu ray. I would appreciate your perspective. Love the content!

At the end of the day, they are both oled and close enough where size will be king. Immersion is a very important factor that many underestimate. Maybe in a bright room then you may need a brighter oled and give up a bit of size. But even in that case, i would get blinds. If comparing led to oled than thats a different story.

So I think I’ve narrowed it down to Sony A80L 65” (currently $1,500 at Best Buy) or the TCL QM851G 75” ($1,500 when on sale). I did see an open box Samsung S90C 65” ($1,218 at Best Buy - Excellent Condition) What’s your opinion on these choices.

I see differences in color which I have difficulty in choosing without going to the reference for final judgement. However the ability to see detail goes to the Sony. If the Sony gets up in its QD-OLEDs by generating more brightness by increasing color, and applies XR Clear, Sony would take Samsung plus Dolby Vision. DV could be the simplest handler of 4000 nits. But for this contest, I want to see the reference in a three-way. Sorry to be selfish😉

Financially speaking, unless Black Friday sales are stellar, I think the best I could do to replace my year-and-a-half old 50" LG QNED would be a 65" model. One thing I want is Dolby Vision, which would rule out anything from Samsung, but I've never had an OLED TV and would like to get one. The A95L is so pricy, though I may not be able to get one, although it would be my choice at the moment. I'd put the 50" somewhere else , though...NOT get rid of it.

To me, detail and image clarity are very important. In almost every scene shown in this comparison the Sony just looks sharper and clearer than the Samsung. While the Samsung had better color and brightness in some scenes, in most other scenes they both looked the same regarding color and brightness. The ideal would be a Samsung QD OLED panel with Sony processing and that would be the Sony A95L. The only bad thing about the A95L is it's extremely high price.

It's never been that close and it never will be. Just talk about price differences because that is what a lot of people are making decisions on buying the 2nd and 3rd tier brands. @andrewwallace9485 Yes, but because the many millions of tiny pixel sized elements in a Micro-LED TV have to be individually placed in very precise positions, no one has figured out yet how to significantly reduce the tremendous production costs involved in manufacturing Micro-LED TVs. That's why an 89" Micro-LED TV is now selling for the very out of reach price (for 98% of Americans) of a cool $80,000, for that size Micro-LED TV! And that's just for a 4k Micro-LED TV! And since an 8k Micro-LED TV would have 4 times as many pixels as a 4k Micro-LED TV has, those much more tiny pixels would turn the challenge of coming up with a manufacturing process for making 8k Micro-LED TVs that could sell for significantly less than $200,000, become a goal that no one could reach until many, many years from now. That's why, here in 2024, no one is even working on prototypes for possible 8k Micro-LED TV models of the future!

It is so hard to decide, I still use a 42 inch LED TV and I feel it should be time to get a big TV. But prices in China are so different from the rest of the world it seems. I'm still deciding to buy one this year or next year... but here are the current prices, based on that, what should be a best buy in price/performance. I will convert prices into EURO. The 77 inch G4 goes for 7100 EURO. That one is actually absurd, way over my budget. The 77 inch S90D in China is NOT a QD OLED, so let's ignore that one. The 77 inch S95D goes for 2950 EURO. The Bravia 8 77 inch goes for 3500 EURO. The 83 inch A80L goes for 3500 EURO. Funny how the Bravia 8 77 inch and 83A80L are similar priced. And let us bring the mini led shall we: The Bravia 9 85 inch goes for 4200 EURO. The TCL X11H (the real flagship over the QM851G) goes now for 2600 EURO. My living room is very easy to light control, we have one big window and it is on the East Side, so when it is TV time, sun is long gone and all our lights are in the ceiling, so no direct light into the TV.

well, while the video is great, as a buyer of both S90D and A80L i can say it is somewhat limited and thus misleading. i cannot tell for sure about 77" vs 83" but i can tell for sure about 65" vs 65". two weeks ago i bought S90D and after couple of days decided to return it. in general the Tizen OS is not good, the image processing is arguable so i decided to switch to Sony. as it is complicated to get A95L in my country i went after A80L. so what can i truly say: 1. overall image quality of Sony is more accurate 2. both TVs shine showing HDR content 3. S90D works the same for HDR and SDR content 4. A80L is awful on SDR content. oh my god how dim it is! unbelievable. it can be suitable only for dark dark rooms 5. the Google TV allows to install good apps (for instance Kodi) but overall performance of apps is not that great (comparing to TV box) 6. A80L aggressively manages white color and the image brightness is always floating. this is very unsatisfying so i returned A80L back and got S90D back and i'm very happy now. some outcomes: 1. unfortunately there is no chance to get rid of TV Box so far. I use NVidia Shield Pro and none of these two TVs can work better than it 2. i wonder what A95L would do on SDR as it has panel same as S90D and image processing same as A80L. it must be great 3. A80L has limited usability. If you watch HRD content - go ahead. if you watch SDR streaming, (most of the) youtube videos, play content from DLNA and/or local storage - i don't see A80L as competitor for S90D in terms of joy 4. S90D is not that perfect TV - awful limited software, silly remote. but if you just watch major streaming services like Netflix or have good TV box - it can be a good choice (don't also forget price difference).

But also keep in mind with Bri having the 83" A80L. As he has expressed, it has the a90j chassis, glossy panel, along with a heat sink. So essentially his TV is somewhat of an a90j with XR clear. So his will be somewhat brighter than the 65" variant of the A80L that doesn't have any of that
@mykhailoskachkov5946
@mykhailoskachkov5946 Ай бұрын
@@Kivancli79 i live in Ukraine. apart from the war that complicate things there are actual differences between different Sony factories and their target countries. for instance, in Ukraine it is easy to buy A95L manufactured on the factory in Slovakia. however the nuance with that production is that it uses not exactly the same panel as for units being sold in United States. the factory in Slovakia target more budget markets (like Egypt, Turkey and so on). so if you want to get 'true' A95L you need to get the unit manufactured in Malaysia. as long as it is officially not sold in Ukraine you can get it unofficially (there are companies that can deliver it). pricewise it would be more than twice times more expensive than S90D (approx. $5k vs $2k). so at the moment i decided to go with S90D. i don't think that a bit better picture worth that. PS. btw, retailers say they experience lots of returns for A95L here in Ukraine because of various quality issues, up to 30%.

It’s the A80L with a probably 7-10 percent bump in brightness.

@@zr1cvette Also notice they didn't even sell a 83 inch version of it, seems the 83 inch A80L will perform as well as the B8 thanks to some hardware upgrades the smaller sizes didn't have like a heatsink. So the 83 version is brighter than the smaller sizes in the same A80J series.
