My dryer is coming up on 15 years now. Using this video I’ve changed the heating element (6months ago) and just now the belt. This video is super helpful and this dryer is just gonna keep on rolling. Thanks!

While I have a later generation dryer (2016), Samsung has kept the design almost exactly the same. The belt tensioning idler arm on mine self-destructed. I took the dryer apart before watching your video, but had no idea how the belt should be routed when it came time to reassemble. Your video helped me avoid the expense (and embarrassment) of having to call for professional repair after getting so far on my own. Note to those seeking parts: I found the exploded parts diagrams on the SearsPartsDirect website. Would have ordered everything I needed from them, but was dumbfounded to see the idler arm could not be ordered. Armed with part numbers and names, a search on Amazon resulted in multiple suppliers offering various repair parts packages. I settled on one that had the OEM idler arm assembly plus an OEM replacement belt. A week and $20 in parts later, my wife and I put our dryer back together again. Thanks Bill!!

Replaced my heating coil today. My dryer wasn't heating so I put my multimeter on it and it didn't read any ohms so i took it out and saw the break in it. I got a new one and was able to replace it with the help of this video. Thanks for posting! Saved me alot of money!

I just wanted to comment and say thank you so much for this video and the other troubleshooting video. I was able to, very quicky, diagnose the issue with my dryer based off the information you shared. Based on not having any error messages and the motor still spinning the drum, my dryer heating element went out. A quick test of the element confirmed and once I got the element out of the housing you could clearly see the break and the coil. I got my new element back in and my dryer all back together and maybe 30 to 40 minutes tops. I did spend a little extra time vacuuming and wiping down as much of the services as I could to help the dryer perform at its best again. I was honestly pretty surprised at how easily the dryer came apart. It's nice when things are designed with some serviceability in mind. So, a $20 part and myabe 1hr of my time, including me cleaning/vacuuming everything thuroughly, and our dryer is working better than ever!

Wow, this series of videos are awesome! Last night our dryer crapped out right in the middle of a load and I thought - here we go - let the nightmare begin... You really take your washer and dryer for granted until all of the sudden you don’t have it and then it’s panic city! Anyway, thanks to your very detailed instructions I was able to determine that it was a broken belt and seized up idler pulley. A quick trip to the local parts store and for $40. I had it back up and running great. The idler pulley must have been seized up for quite a while too. The belt actually ate halfway through the pulley before it broke. I had a photo of it, but it looks like I can’t add it to my comments. Anyway, thanks again for saving me a huge headache and lots of $$$$.

First, I would like to say that your videos are very informative and also your videos flow easily and the visuals provide the most of the information. The bonus is the fact that you provide the readings for each part and that helps greatly identifying the faulty part with ease and confidence. I do have the exact dryer on your videos but mine is branded as Kenmore Elite. Changed the heating element once and all was well until about few months that the dryer starts drying but after a while, it turns itself off. Initially I was able to power it back on and continue the drying cycle fine. But the last 2 months the problem has become worst, as now the dryer will start drying and about 10 seconds, to a minute, will power itself off. Some times it will power off right after I turn it on even before I press start. With the heating element I also effaced all sensors in the past as I got a kit from the store. This issue has literally caused me to lose sleep as I cannot identify the issue, save taking the entire until apart and then go item by item until I find what causes this. Want to check everything before I replace the board as here in toronto is 700.00 Canadian. Any wisdom.you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Keep up the great work you do with your videos.

Great video. Made my life a lot easier. Samsung does not make it easy to access parts. My only suggestion would be to show the pieces going back together. By the time I took it apart, tested the parts, got a replacement and went to put it back together again, I'd half forgotten the order. I basically watched it backwards to make sure I wasn't missing any screws or quick connects.

Bill - Thanks for your reply. I was doing some further research and found a DIY Not article that described how this guy took his dryer apart with the service manual, couldn't use the Whirlpool kit that he had purchased and put together his own kit from Home Depot. After all of that a couple people commented that it can be done from the back of the dryer. That is good to know because the instructions that come with the kit say to use the service manual to disassemble the dryer!!! I would like to avoid that if possible. I will give the back access hole a try. Thanks again.
@BillNewberry
@BillNewberry 8 жыл бұрын
+brian ermeling You should be good doing it from the back of the dryer, I had my arm, light and a camera in that hole. lol The vent pipe that comes out the back has one screw half-way back that secures it in place, remove that screw and twist the pipe to remove it from the blower housing. Without some sort of kit, you could probably cut the pipe in half, throw a 90 degree coupler on it, add a piece to send it out the side. Just tape the joints. I haven't looked at the kit, so I don't know what comes with it. If I had to do it at my house, the pipe would be cut. lol Let me know how you make out!

I'm about to begin disassembly of this pretty much same dryer in order to begin diagnostics using another one of your videos. Can you please give us an idea as to the cost of the main circuit board that you will test where the relay is for the start circuit, as well as the motor, as well as the belt breaks which, as well as the thermal switch??? So that I know whether I want to put the necessary repairs at this dryer or depending on what the results of the diagnosis is toss it out and move on to another unit!?! Thanks in advance.

Hi Bill - I installed the side vent on one of the two dryers that I have to do this weekend and it went "OK". I did it through the back hole, but it might have been easier taking the dryer apart?? The problems that I had were the following: 1) that small flap in the bottom that you are supposed to bend up to a 90 degree angle was there and I bent it up. It had a small slit in it to catch the metal clip on the new piece of duct coming back from the blower, but it was farther toward the front of the machine than the metal clip on the duct was so they didn't line up and couldn't connect together. The intent was to keep the duct from moving toward the back of the machine and coming out of the blower. To accomplish that I used metal tape to tape over the duct and secure it to the bottom of the machine, 2) the elbow was larger than the back hole or the new side hole in the case, so it was impossible to get inside the machine without grinding the side hole a little larger. I wouldn't enlarge the back hole because it has a bend that would make it more difficult and then if larger wouldn't hold the new piece they supply to close it, and 3) It is almost impossible to take those 2 joints once the connections are all in place. The space between the bottom of the new duct and the bottom of the machine isn't large enough to get your hand and that VERY sticky metal tape through it. The next dryer I am going to assemble the 3 pieces of duct and bring each joint to the back opening and tape it before assembling it to the blower and out the side hole. Just my thoughts, but thanks for the idea of using the existing duct holes to accomplish this without disassembly of the machine. Have a great day. Brian

I live in a condo and dryer is in garage on a common wall so the air outlet ducting goes under my house all the way to the back of house which is over 50 ft. If it was electric I could just have blow in garage. Is the run too long or is there something else I can do?

Thank You so much. I was able to change the front two wheels on my dryer by myself. It was under warranty and I watched the repairman do the similar thing to take apart the dryer. Is it possible to reach the relay wheel without going in the back of the dryer? TO release the belt and then change the relay? Also Is if okay that I changed the front two wheels and not the back two, since I dont have a power drill and the back screws are like bolted on too tight? I dont want to strip them. ANyway THANKs so much you have saved me lots of money as My warranty is expired and I dont have hundreds of dollars to pay the repair guy to come out twice to put the parts in. Thats right. they come first to diagnose and order parts, and charge you . COme back take it apart again and put parts back in place. They charge me over $165 each time.
