Celmad this may get a bit winded but here is the backstory. I prefer to be a macOS user but my job requires the windows platform. I could, and did, use boot camp and a vm on a 12” MacBook but I prefer the always on capability of the surface pro x or galaxy book s. I purchased the x as it was released first but I didn’t like the flex in the keyboard when typing. Also, I need to be able to type while the device is in my lap and with the stand on the x the keyboard is pushed closer to my body making typing uncomfortable. Finally, cost plays a part in my choice. The Samsung is 999 while the X is 999, with less storage, plus the price of a keyboard. I save about 300$ on the Samsung and have a more comfortable typing experience.

Hi Andrew, Great review as always. I just ordered on should have it Tuesday. I can feel your excitement about this device and cant wait to give it a go. I had a Surface pro X and really liked it a lot. Thought it was going to be the perfect solution for me. However in the end the attachable keyboard was not a good “On the Lap” solution so I returned it. Also costs wayyyyyy too much. Excited about this as it is a clamshell.

This is a great laptop if you want to have the lte connection. I think the camera on this machine really is above average (good smooth picture) compared to other machines you reviewed. Nice display. You did not mention if this laptop can be opened and if any upgrades can be done to it like adding more memory etc. Also how easy is it to replace the battery when the time comes? Great review.

“Not much is known about TFT displays...” Doesn’t TFT refer to thin film transistor technology that has been widely used in monitors for many years? I don’t know much about it but it’s commonly pitted against IPS technology as the cheaper alternative at the expensive of colors and viewing angles. Though I’ve heard in recent years the colors have caught up to IPS.

A direct comparison to the Surface Pro X would be interesting. I love my Pro X but I am very much in the Samsung ecosystem. The Pro X has no MicroSD slot - sad, but does have 512GB of memory available. It also (in the max trim I bought) costs about twice the Book S. From you review of the Book S I see the following MicroSD - advantage Book S builtin storage - advantage Pro X 2 in 1 - advantage Pro X but I bet the Samsung keyboard is nicer than the type cover on the Pro X Type-C ports - Advantage Book S (because one on either side) Display - ? Pro X is a beautiful display but I have not seen the TFT on Book S and Samsung is famous for best-in-class displays Thanks for a great review

- I think keyboard of the Pro X might be better, it has more key travel at least. - Pro X has 2 USB Type-C while you charge the device with the Surface port, whereas the Book S would only have 1 USB free to use while charging. The Book S has 3.5mm headphone jack. - Display of the Pro X is higher resolution and better aspect ratio for productivity. 16:9 aspect ratio of the Book S is better for media consumption, but it still has less resolution.

I absolutely love this device, was thinking of getting an iPad and that thought is completely gone. With turning websites into apps with the new Edge browser, it is great. added a TB sd card and I am set for a very long time on it. Hardly used any of the 256GB on the primary drive. also, if you have a powerful machine at home whatever it is, using google's remote desktop is perfect. Very light, fast enough and much better than Chrome OS at least for me. :-)

So I've had this piece since Tuesday 2/18/2020. Working out very well. Your review hit all of the high and low points, in particular, the backlight...What was Samsung thinking?!?!? Super weak and barely usable. Battery life is insane and weight and size are currently untouchable, IMO. I'm on the Verizon network and having on the go LTE is priceless. I got this for prepping for several professional exams and certification test. Very good review, thanks!!

Update on my experience with the Book S. Finally I was able to get the vpn working for my job. Cisco Any Connect Mobility. The client that I had been using on various Microsoft laptops wouldn't install on this S. So, on a long shot I went to the Microsoft Store and searched and found it. It installed! And now works. It is different in appearance than what is on my other Windows ten laptops, it uses the built into windows vpn settings but bottom line I'm getting closer to using this laptop full time as my main communications laptop. I have a Dell XPS 7590 that does my real work (connecting to big Cisco UCS Blade chassis). This little guy (S) is for email, messaging (cisco Mobility) and paperwork/ tickets. Im just a little closer to laptop nirvana.

Samsung always had this idea of giving everything at higher than average quality with price being lower than given but they always lack focus maybe because of this. I wished they refined so it feels more iconic like Apple. Always impressed with quality and functionality of devices they create but they are not always the most appetizing product.

Though their thought behind the design is to match with the current generation of smartphones. Again the phones could have used non glass back and rather MATTE BLACK ALUMINUM just not fan of the finger print magnet prism glasses..

Hey Andrew. Professional work as usual. This channel needs to have more subs. I appreciate your feedback on Office 365 after a couple of us asked you in your previous video. I'm considering this as my secondary travel laptop for office work (pun intended) and web browsing with its always on LTE connectivity. Since, I am a Samsung Note 10+ user, it'll be great to carry just one charger, be connected at all times and have great battery back up. I just wanted some clarity on the charger. You mention 45W fast charger. I believe its a 25W charger. Can you please confirm.

Still a Chromebook person. The one great thing about this laptop is its battery life. Oh, and it's pretty! However, as a media consumer, I could be persuaded to buy this because I know that Chromebooks are pricing themselves at about this range and higher. Go figure! I would still need a two in one because of space issues, so this particular laptop would be a negative for me because it would require more room. Great review, as always. Keep'em coming!

I purchased a used model Verizon LTE and it has been a workhorse. If your one the good and Used office 356 and use their storage also this is an excellent unit. I found if I used a power dongle I found all my external drives and monitors worked well. I use a thunderbolt Dell docking station for external keyboard and mouse of office use. I even purchased another one but use it on wifi to watch movies and to surface the net. eBay purchase both and both were about 600 each. I would compare it to my I5 Asus zenbook 14 . My Gmail. works well on the web under the New edge. Since I am a road warrior the battery is awesome. I also have Lepow 15.6 external monitor. It will run the external ok but it does take a hit after 6 hours using both units off the Book S battery only. I tried lots of the Arm units before but this is a true winner.

For me the dealbreaker is the lack of Dropbox as I heavily rely on it... Also would have liked a 16GB RAM version. But it’s nonetheless a nice piece of hardware and I am confident in Qualcomm and WOA and certain we will get better and better laptops on ARM in the future

Dude, Intel version won't have cellular connection. Although, I would choose the Intel version over the Snapdragon version anyway until I find an option where I can run any apps on that snapdragon!

This could be the screen on the Galaxy Book S..........One interesting variation of IPS is the AH-IPS architecture developed by LG Display. This type of IPS panel uses the AFFS (advanced fringe field switching). This architecture gives the best performance for smaller screens with high resolution such as those used in handheld devices such as the Apple IPad. AH-IPS has the advantage of greater light transmission, which translates into lower power consumption. So far, this technology has been limited to small screens due to higher manufacturing costs for larger screens.

Let me reply based on my experience, Yes, I can upgrade with Win 11, but after that I get more issues. Before, I had so many compatibility issues with apps, also with Bluetooth earbuds, very choppy. After upgrading to Win 11, many apps still do not work (of course), earbuds gets more connection issues. I never try the Intel version, maybe better.

Samsung Galaxy Book S is hands down a better product, faster processor, better display and better build.

This device is not meant for video editing for the most part. I would look at other devices for content creation.

I didn’t know this was a hybrid basically when I purchased it. Specifically for jail breaking my iPhone. I hope it can run the program. If not it’s going straight back.
