Though with the telemetry they've put inside that "smart-monitor" the price should be significatively reduced compared to the Alienware and other simple monitors. And like IoT, the fast drop of software support on all of those Android devices once the warranty period is over is concerning in term of security.

@@PainterVierax I think Samsung uses the same os as their TVs tizen which is not android and far worse for ads and other intrusive things
@PainterVierax
@PainterVierax Жыл бұрын
@@TaimatCR They repurposed that good ol' Tizen into that, i see…… So that means it's even worse than I thought because even when the manufacturer support drop, the apps can't be manually updated and there is very few possibility of any community support. Though, Tizen devices seem not to be well supported by Samsung in the first place, embedding old Linux kernels and neglecting pentesting audits and OTA updates. That's a real good advertisement for HTPC running Kodi with LibreElec (or conventional Linux) on devices like RaspberryPi, NUC, Brix or thin-ITX PCs.

I returned my AW DWF for this and overall much happier. The DWF has bad packaging that causes micro scratches but the biggest issue is the damn coil whine on the DWF. Dell even replaced it multiple times for me but they had all this horrendous buzzing noise coming out of the monitor. While the G8 OLED isn't perfect either, it's at least dead silent which is very important to me.

@@marcel1463 It's been a known issue on the DWF since the release back in November. You can do a google search and it's been discussed to death at this point. I know what’s the issue with amd gpu greyed out when turning on freesync and HDR. To fix this first, turn on hdr on windows and freesync. Then go to adrenaline software and go to display settings. There’s an option called "custom color" that can enable you to customize the brightness, saturation and contrast. Enable the option then put the contrast to 198 or 200. That’s how i fixed mine on my odyssey neo g9 with my rx 6900xt.

The DWF only achieves 100hz at 10bit hdr, and the DW 144hz in 10bit, while the oled g8 does all 175hz in 10bit. Oled g8 also has a quicker response time with no overshoot as well as lower input lag. I encourage anyone on the fence to visit rtings and compare monitors side by side before purchasing.

Owner here. Monitor is controlled with a small remote. It takes 15 (or 12 if you take the other slower route. There's the third route too - via the tiny joystick behind the monitor, worse than the remote option) steps of navigation through the menu to get to the BRIGHTNESS setting!!! FIFTEEN!!!! And then 5 (2) more to get out of it. While you do it, it completely covers the content as it covers most of the screen. Plus it's very easy to take a wrong turn while you do it, it's super annoying. Best part: on the remote there are unattributed buttons up-down-left-right on the control wheel, and I can't understand why brightness isn't there, as it's by far the most used function?!!?! It's nice that you have speakers, they are not great but they are OK, lacking in bass in particular, they absolutely could be much better for the price - laptop and tablet speakers have become really good. But: volume control is on the remote, but it's a small sturdy rocker, not the usual double up-down button. So I can't just press up and down 1000 times every day with my index finger while the remote is on my mouse mat - no, I have to reach for the remote and properly grab it so it doesn's slip - it's very small and slippery - and use my thumb to push the volume rocker up or down. Hilariously annoying. Oh, and if you think you'll be listening to music while you cook or something - nope, the screen turns off after 5min, and it turns off the music with it. It also confuses my streaming app so I have to restart it with several clicks afterwards.. Stand: foot is alu, but upright flat column is plastic, and it should be more stable, because the monitor bobs slightly million times a day. I touch the desk with my knee - bobbing - I set my arm on the desk to grab the mouse - bobbing again - etc. My desk could be heavier and perfectly stable, but this is still annoying as hell, and was never an issue before in 15+ years with this desk. It's just that the composite alu foot->plastic column has some give, it moves elastically a bit. Silver decorative line around the bezels - visible at all times, particularly the left and right silver upright lines - monitor is slightly curved and light is on them. A fail in design, as there are black bars on the sides most of the time. I have a huge amount of light coming in during the day, from my left, entire room length is in glass, and the QD-OLED's lack of polarizer isn't an issue really. It's noticeable, but not a big deal at all. I expected worse, having used LG CX OLED 55 TV previously. Compared to my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, or previous LG OLED TV, colours are burning red, it still throws me off, so annoying. Why does Samsung have to do that BS is beyond me. I'm not a calibrator, and don't want to endlessly play with the numerous settings as they are not easy to understand. Particularly I have the issue of migrating between modes - SDR/HDR etc. If I lower red or colour somehow in one mode, does it now apply to the other mode as well? Two days later I naturally don't remember which slider I moved or what was the initial factory setting etc. There are a lot of available settings, so that is a plus, provided I learn how to use them. Brightness in HDR content could be higher, but I'm talking only about small flashy features on screen. I'm sure my CX 55 TV was much brighter and punchier. I did carefully turn off all the energy saving features and the such, but it's still not there. Nominally, this should be at approx 1000 nits while my LG OLED TV was at approx 650. Maybe because the TV was much larger so it just seemed brighter? I don't know. Maybe it's just some of the numerous settings I should learn more about. And lastly - I was about to buy a 7900 XTX, Jeeez.. 🙄 Now I don't even know if I should be half angry at AMD or Samsung..or both.

The mini ports seem to be for depth reasons rather than width reasons. The monitor doesn't even seem to have enough depth for the Mini DisplayPort, which is sticking out. Whatever they have behind the ports seems to be taking too much space and they didn't want to tarnish the design by making the monitor or the port area thicker.

What I do lack though is more info on your settings. See, I just got this monitor. (gotta say, hate the UI "OS". Very laggy and unresponsive (push the menu button and it takes about 3 seconds to pop up) I couldn't find any link to an indepth article and even though not every monitor is exactly the same, I'd love to see your settings as well as your take on the different settings like Brightness & Contrast for a nice 6500K 150nits. Or if/when to use Contrast Enhancer (I thought that was a LCD feature to get deeper blacks, which shouldn't be needed for OLED?). Or how to use the Gamma settings; if I try to change it to 2.2 (from ST.2084), it says "function not available)? Also: what are the different Colour Space settings? In the video you mentioned that Auto is actually sRGB mode? Then What is Normal (Wide Color?) and Native? And is "Peak Brightness" the name for HDR1000 mode? Great review! I have been waiting for you guys to review this monitor since I am still considering which QD-OLED I should buy. I bought one here in Aus and have had it just about 1 month now. It's been a HUGE upgrade from my old 1080p 24inch 144hz TN panel. I was initially going to get the AW DWF but when i saw the G8 takes up 10cm less desk space(depth wise) and just the overall design, plus it came with a redemption offer for a $400 2tb M.2 SSD (which i need to upgrade my 500g one). So it kinda cost me the same as the DWF on special. Problems however.....did you guys experience the volume going up by 1 randomly? or mine also gets a multi-colored flashing line at the very bottom of the monitor from time to time which might just be a bad cable i'm not sure(bad mini port choice means i have no spare cables to test with) but unplugging and re-plugging the DP cable fixes it.

I have that monitor volume going up time to time so I guess it’s firmware bug or something and I also have that flashing line at bottom of my screen at I have noticed that this happens when ever playing games in HDR and then running between windows and back into the game, but it always simply fixes for me when example in game where HDR enabled and it starts to do that flashing, i simply press windows logo on my keyboard to go back to windows, and then press game logo to go back into the game and then it’s gone, i don’t have to do anything else, ofc if this happens while in windows, then i usually restart monitor or restart pc, so it’s seems to be something with happening with windows 11 automatic HDR which I have enabled or that’s what I think, perhaps firmware update would make it gone But it’s surely is kind of BS that at this price need to deal with these kind of shit, my previous Samsung monitor also had all kinds of fuckery going time to time which would have made someone else get ridd off that monitor right away.

AFAIK there is no console that doesn't cap FPS above 120. More than that, this bug only appearing above 120fps kinda shows that this product was designed with consoles in mind, neglecting tests with PCs on AMD gpu.

Finally I was waiting for your review, there are still no QD-OLED monitors that are worth their price, if this monitor had cost 1000$ I would have bought it, it means that I will wait for 2024 and a more mature market for OLEDs, some fundamental characteristics are still missing such as brightness sustained of at least 400 nits and a peak brightness of 1400 nits, we will probably see them with the second or third generation of QD oled, standard subpixel layout, flexing screens for more monitors and permanent burn in warranty and mitigation are a must-have. I've had this monitor for a week now. Some thoughts: 1. I solved the pink and green fringing on Windows on day one by turning the monitor's Sharpness setting all the way down to zero. I'm not claiming that will work for everyone, but I swear to you text on this monitor is not an issue at all. 2. I don't know why this is happening, but for some reason if my connected PC or MacBook go to sleep, the monitor will not be able to detect them again when they wake back up. Even if I reset the monitor by powering it off then on. The only way I've been able to get around this is by unplugging and re-plugging the monitor, which of course is a dumb solution. 3. This is my first OLED monitor, and so now I'm hyper aware of all the static elements on screen. Forget about the taskbar or the menu bar on Mac; you can easily hide those. I'm talking about the tabs on your browsers, the menus and title windows of applications, the HUD in games, and even the gap between application windows where your wallpaper peeks through. There are so many static elements onscreen. Fortunately, it's still very easy to make sure I refresh the screen. I can turn it off, show my black desktop background, start my screensaver, or even just play a fullscreen video (just make sure the video has no watermarks or icons on it like in many KZbin videos). 4. The speakers are surprisingly usable. 5. The smart functionality is useless at best and an unnecessary extra step to switching inputs at worst. It really shouldn't be here. I know nothing is perfect, but this smart shit could've easily been scrapped with no tradeoff. 6. The ports are indeed weird and scarce. Shopping for a high quality microHDMI adapter is a daunting task with the online market flooded with marketing blurbs and unclear descriptions. The included miniDP to DP cable works fine, but if that ever breaks I'm going to be pissed. I also would've liked to have even just one USB-A port on such an expensive device, but, oh well. 7. As someone who used to use a 43" monitor as my main display (Aorus FV43U), this widescreen format is so much more practical for work. It just is. My eyes and neck are extremely grateful for this change, not just because of the more realistic vertical and corner distances, but also because the FV43U is stupidly bright and loud. It's too good for its own good, and is not meant to be used up close. 8. QD-OLED is QD-OLED: - Amazing visuals - Usable but not ideal in full daylight or bright light - Extremely responsive in games (to the point where things actually slowed down for me in Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty because I can react and match my inputs better) - Hilariously black black where there's zero difference between showing my black desktop background and turning the monitor off. Recommendation: If you're on a budget, practical, anxious, or not willing to take extra care of your devices, this monitor is not for you. Even as I type this, I'm wasting brain cells being conscious of how long the static elements here on this KZbin tab alone have been here, the other browser window I have on the other side, and all the tabs on top. This works for me because I can't work or game for long stretches anymore. I want to walk around and take a break every 2 hours or so, which means I can easily mitigate burn-in without changing my routine or getting too annoyed at the irony of the direct proportion between price and fragility.

I have same issues. Don't bother with RMA. I sent mine to RMA in my country and official Samsung response was that there is nothing wrong with my monitor. I talked with the representative and they said there is nothing they can do. Seeing as how so many people have this issue, it is clear that the fault is hardware based. I would not recommend anyone to buy this as it is a lottery for what they [Samsung] had the audacity to call a premium product. I compiled a list of all the issues I found from my use and online forums and sent it directly to consumer rights protection. Doubt anything will be solved in the end, but Samsung is clearly selling broken units and don't want to bother with the fallout. After the Samsung Pro 990 SSDs fiasco, they blunder yet again.

So I bought an lg 27” oled monitor online from Best Buy and it came in with a bent screen so I returned it in store and was going to get another one of the same. I love this display,despite some weirdness with choice of ports, questionable smart tv features, where KZbin is the only app I found truly supporting the format, but WiFi firmware is amazing. I do have one question though, the poor AMD HDR performance, is there a way to enable the same behavior on nVidia cards? While I love the look and feel of HDR, I have a neurological disorder that makes me sensory sensitivity, and the high peak brightness is murder for my eyes. In some games I’ve found I have better control of this, but there doesn’t seem to be any global settings. This is however my first foray into true HDR gaming, I always had it disabled on older display due to lack of even local dimming, and even now I have to toggle HDR on with win-alt-B before starting a game because Windows looks horrible in HDR mode… TLDR: is there an option on the display to limit max brightness in HDR to say 400 nits? (which is a lot brighter than the 120 I calibrate all my displays to for SDR normally)
@matthew2182
@matthew2182 3 ай бұрын
I noticed HDMI looks better than display port using HDR. Using the Windows HDR calibrator over display port limits the Darks to 0.50 and lights to 400 while HDMI can hit Darks 0.0 and lights up to 800. I'm not sure what causes that; adaptive sync works perfect over HDMI but make sure to keep 'VRR control' turned off in monitors menus or you'll get VRR flicker. The coresynsc was why I picked this monitor but it doesn't seem to work in any way that warrants it's existence as a feature. It doesn't change color to match the content on screen but just pulses a dim bluish light sampled from the center of the screen somewhere. I'm happy with the purchase besides my small gripe over coresync. There are some QOL issues with having to use both the knob and remote to navigate the option menu and the smart TV side of things is extremely laggy and easy to activate when fumbling with the remote. Other than that... it's the best looking screen I've ever owned. :)

@@matthew2182 Yes! I researched this a bit! Think we can be glad, that it works fine for us. For some they get major issues after just 5 minutes of use! The eye 👁️ strain community believes a few things that might cause their eye strain: OLED also has this dimming flicker every refresh cycle. You can film with with a camera with 1/8000 shutter speed. For some the high contrast actually makes them tired, but this can be reduced by reducing brightness or installing a bias light. The high color volume or color width is tiring for some, can’t fix this easily. Others can’t handle the glare of a glossy screen (no issue with this screen). And especially with QD-OLED the pixel structure might create a problem where the eye can’t focus on it. Others believe that the blue light 💡 of WD-OLED is the reason.

Got this monitor now at $720 before tax through edu price and Rep discount. I think this price is a steal for this monitor despite it has some lacks on compatibility in ports and concerns for burn-in.

It’s hard to beat the DWF. With 3 year warranty, firmware updates. With cash back I got it for about $720 out the door…I don’t see getting another OLED for that anytime soon

How does the cash back work? I don't see anything on the dell page about it.

@@Bretton549 it would be capital one that offers it. Not Dell specifically, I believe if you have an AMEX card they do run a deal as well where it’s 20 or 30% cash back. One of those 2 for Amex

I must say Im surprised I didnt hear more negatives about the color accuracy of this monitor. In HDR, even after setting the color space to Auto, most games and desktop apps have colors so saturated that even for a laik (me) this looks very bad. I could directly compare it to LG C2 and the difference is insane out of the box and even after heavily optimising the settings, calibrating the display thru Windows utility and downloading a color profile, the G8 still looked awful in HDR Game mode and even in the HDR Graphic mode. Adding numerous problems like not being able to wake up when connected via DP, Wi-Fi connection, slow and unresponsive menus and remote, and the fact it needed motherboard, power supply AND panel replacement during the first 2 months I have used it, I ended up switching permanently to C2 and selling the G8. Based on my experience and not being an expert, I only recommend using this for non-HDR gaming and only if you can get it on sale or bundled (I got it for ∼ $1000 + free Galaxy A53, so a good deal). Hope this helps somewhat.

I think the issue some people run into is relying on an auto-setting that isn't good, and then trying to calibrate by eyesight alone, or downloading calibration profiles that were made for other monitors of the same model. Neither option is valid, but are tempting to use for some. The only way to calibrate is to use hardware tools with specialized software (not windows) and create a profile that is made only for your specific monitor (or use the built-in software on some monitors, which is preferable). Color calibration is something that seems reasonable at first, but it's a bit of a rabbit hole when you start to dig into it and understand the tools and limitations more. The other issues seem more "real" though, and it's a shame Samsung haven't improved their quality control.

Believe me, I didnt dig into any specific calibration until I tried everything possible within the monitor’s menu. Compared to other monitors and TV I have own, this was by far the most difficult to setup and even after that the image looked terrible. I am discribing the HDR mode, non-HDR looks ok to me
