Sent you a small donation. With two kids in college and the holidays in full swing, funds are a bit tight or it would have been more but your videos (and a couple of timely YT replies to questions) have helped me fix my Sony SLV-798 VCR with an eject problem and also my wife's 20+ year old Oster 4811 breadmaker. My wife loves the breadmaker but it developed a problem where it would just intermittently shut off at random times during the cycle. I've looked at it a few times and even replaced all the caps (a couple tested on the edge according to my Blue ESR meter) but could never figure it out since it was intermittent and random. Watching you inspect solder joints and finding so many bad ones I decided to give it one last shot with a magnifying glass on the boards. I didn't find anything obvious but a few that looked a bit cold. I reflowed a dozen or so connections on both the power board and the logic board (the worst one on one of the display connections) and put it back together and I'll be darned if it didn't fix it. It paid off with fresh dinner rolls for Thanksgiving! I only recently found your channel and have been watching all your videos lately. I really appreciate what you do, and how you do it, Dave. Thank you!

I watched the original video when it was posted and then I watched this video. I am totally amazed that a video can be demonetized after this long period of time. Seems that content creators are going to become scarcer and scarcer if these totally ridiculous type of hits continue. It has happened not only to you but to many of the content creators that I subscribe to. I have been wanting to start a KZbin channel for quite a while now but it is very hard to come to a decision as to whether it would be worth it from a monetary viewpoint and just a plain pain in the neck viewpoint. I would love to help others without worrying about being beat down by KZbin at every intersection. Aloha
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
It wasn't de-monetized. They were still running ad's, they just redirected the ad revenue to the claimants. That's the way it works.
@randygentry27246 жыл бұрын
I see, maybe demonetized was the wrong term for me to use but the end result was the same in my mind. They took away your ad revenue and sent it elsewhere. The hardest part about this is that they did not do it after 1 week, or 2 weeks, or 30 days, or 60 days or 6 months , or 1 year, or 2 years, but 3 years. This is a really helpful teaching video and in no way was anyone paying any attention to the actual content of the 12 seconds of video in dispute. What we were paying attention to and what was significant was that the video actually appeared on the screen indicating that the repair was completed. I mean, what next??? Aloha
@randygentry27246 жыл бұрын
From what I can see, you need to record some of your 4k trip footage and put that on your video screens whenever ANY video needs to be shown so that it cannot be busted. Just make sure there are no signs or billboards in background with advertising or corporate logos on them(or even buildings with corporate names or logos that will stay in frame for more than 1 frame) because you never know. I would say continue to use royalty free music but you never know when someone will claim that the music sounds very "close" to music they composed or the lyrics are "near" to their lyrics. Kind of hard to breathe these days without someone complaining. Aloha

That is what I have been doing. I use my time lapse footage as I did in the Benq speaker demo video. When the footage for this video was shot 3 years ago I had not completed my project. I have tons more time lapse stills to go through. Spent a 10 days touring Utah, Moab, Arches and Canyonlands and grand canyon with my still camera and intervalometer shooting literally thousands of images for time lapse movies. Just have not processed the images yet as they were shot 8K RAW image.

Not true. There is no other platform. Seriously. Nothing else even comes close. If there were other platforms that creators could make as much money as they do on youtube we would be there. A 19-second YT video? You mean they took all the revenue from your original video? How?
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
The rights holder to the visual content, in other words the photographer or his clearing company filed a claim that I did not have the rights to use those images. As time lapse are considered single images the 9 second rule doesn't even need to apply legally. A single image is all that it takes. I had other videos in the past where I used what I thought were generic public domain clips, and they turned out to be copyrighted worldwide by the BBC. So they made a claim, and siphoned off all the already paid revenue. I know this because when youtube paid me I was short what that video had made over it's lifetime. There is no challenging it, because they already did a manual review, so challenging could leave a permanent copyright strike. The only permanent solution is lick my wounds remove the offending clip and start over. There is NO recourse. On the other hand, I discovered that someone had stolen some footage I had shot many years ago and placed it into their own video. When I discovered it, I was an even bigger prick I had their account hit with a copyright strike, and had the video taken down. Now had they monetized it I could have requested the revenue, but it was a non monetized video of mine that they had stolen the first 6 minutes of, frame for frame. They changed the music, and had another announcer re-read my script also word for word, but they extended the video and made it longer. It was actually done by my competitor. The company that hired me to produce their video was bought out and they changed the name of the company (but not the name of the product) took my video which they had on DVD so the quality was good, took it to another production company even though it had my name all over it, added a new shots from home video and then published it, and posted it on the BC safety counsel website and youtube. Here is the link to my original that I had to upload to youtube to prove it was my content. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gmLcoIGPo9yEjJY

This wasn't caught by their bot. That would have happened when it was uploaded. Someone at loungev studios made a claim, and took all the revenue. So I am in the red this month. It blows for sure, and leaves a bad taste in my mouth, but if the new article 13 copyright laws of the EU are enforced a single frame shown can get you hammered. I am quite pissed as of now for this to happen. It was 12 seconds of their video playing on youtube in the background. 12 fu##ing seconds.Give me a break. On the positive side, I re-edited the original footage, and made it better, cutting crap that should have been cut, and doing proper voice overs when the audio was bad.

Maybe use one of your own videos as a screen test or use some video that is licensed under a Creative Commons license as a test? It will be hard for them to argue copyright if it is one that you own or one authorized to freely share!
@12voltvids6 жыл бұрын
This video was under creative commons use when it was done. The video was done 3 years ago when these videos were all over youtube. Then they decided to change the rules and require a specific license to post on any social media site. That is the problem I have with this. If you go to their web site now they are very specific, but that wasn't the case 3 years ago when I did this video, and the shot of their video was playing in the background off youtube. My more recent videos I have only shown my work, but what am I supposed to do with the old ones? Re-edit them all? The first 9 seconds is fine, it is after that that they nail you, and I had a 12 second shot. This is where it gets sticky, because they allow public display of their videos in retail stores (demo for TVs) doctors / dentist waiting rooms and in your home for free, but to post a 12 second clip in another youtube video requires a special license? What is the "special" licence you wonder. It is that they monetize the video and take 100% of the revenue. Now for someone that doesn't monetize their videos that might be ok, but I on the other hand do monetize my videos, and if someone else is going to make money on my content, and 99.5% of that video is my content, then the video is not going to stay online.
@stphinkle6 жыл бұрын
12voltvids I would contact Electronic Frontier Foundation and explain this situation and ask them to write a letter to KZbin over this. If you are clearly the copyright holder of the video you created the system should not be flagging your own clips used in another video you post.

The studio's logo was showing, I wasn't trying to pull something, but they have their policy. You can download that video and have it playing as an ambiant video in your doctor or dentist waiting room, or your yoga studio for that matter, but include it in a youtube video and they want a licence fee. Don't pay them for that, then they just file a claim with youtube and take the revenue.

And releasing the videos to a small group of dedicated fans helps to catch mistakes in the videos too so it saves you work having to answer stupid questions in the comments. What a bunch of baloney. 3 years? Sorry you had to go through that. I’d say more but don’t want to get you demonetized. Hope everyone watched this one.

Can't you file a counter claim?

I could and I would loose. I mean I could be a dick and do the same thing if someone hijacked my videos. Wait a minute someone did. I filed take down notices and had their channel shut down. That was when someone copied and reposted over 100 of my videos on their channel. They were not monetizing them, but if they had and they had thousands of views I could have done the same thing. But in this case (this video) it was 12 seconds. It isn't like I put up their entire video. I had 12 seconds showing on the TV while I was talking. I am much more careful now and only use time lapse footage that I have shot on any TV i am working on.

I guess next time it's a good idea to show your own KZbin video on the screen... or a generic test pattern.

Im all for copyright claims that are justified. if you BLATANTLY copy work then you should not be entitled to the revenue especially without due credit. in your case, that 12 sec clip can be worked out as a percentage of the video based on time and then if you had no audio on it another 50% removed as a credit due to the claimant. if they claim 100% of the video they also claim your audio and video as their own???

Believe me I am getting fed up with it. Had to spend all afternoon reworking the video so I can try and make some money instead of producing a new video for a couple of DAT machines I repaired. Total waste of my time responding to this bullshit.
