I performed these same steps with Q90T and RTX 3080 for PC gaming. After turning Game Motion Plus Off the details and graphics were Amazingly better. Setting the Dynamic Black Equalizer to zero fixed a lot of Black color issues on the Q90T. I can enjoy black colors again. Increasing the Gamma setting to 3 on the TV made a huge difference as well. The colors and picture quality are now very vibrant. I also disabled or not Enabled G-Sync setting. I haven't tried enabling G-Sync with the Game Motion Plus turned off, but with Game Motion Plus turned on and G-Sync enabled the graphics were very washed out and didn't look too good. I played Doom Eternal 4k@120 Hz.. the graphics and picture quality have never looked better. In my case some settings needed to be different: 3:45 Sharpness of 2 instead of zero to have no sharpening/blurring! You can test this by creating a tiled-background from a 4-pixel square with two diagnonally placed pixels. 7:10 Color space setting of "Native" is more accurate in my case.

I actually watched all your videos on OLED and QLED and based on your professional opinion and testing I went for the QLED. I have seen a OLED since and they do look great but I am very happy with the Q90T QLED and now with these updated settings you just made me feel even better about my choice. It seemed overly bright out of the box on all games and I was looking at very bright colours thinking thats not how its meant to look. Now it looks mint and Ive just got 47 eliminations and 10 Deaths on Cold War Nuketown on the new settings so they definately helped me personally. To note though my TV switched to 2086 once I loaded Call of duty so I had to do the settings you did on PS5. Then when I closed Cold war it went back to 1886 so I did the settings for that again. I think many are still confused on how to achieve reasonably accurate calibration of peak HDR on PS5 and XSX with the Q95T/Q90T. If 14 or 15 clicks from the darkest point = 1000 nits, and the Q95T/Q90T can achieve 1700 nits on a 10% window after calibration - how many clicks then would equal, say, 1700-1900 nits? Thank you.
@hdtvtest4 жыл бұрын
The clipping point applies to the source input code value, not the actual peak brightness output of the TV. In [HGiG] mode, before dynamic tone-mapping, the Q90T/ Q95T also starts rolling off around 1000 nits, so 14-15 clicks should work.

I am a definitely huge fan of Game Motion Plus for 30fps games especially Switch games also on Series X for CyberPunk quality mode. As far as boosting the gamma I have have played around with this overall and for some games I think you can run +3 on the gamma but on darker games I definitely think most people would find it too washed out you got to play at 0 due to some dimming limitations, maybe this is more necessary on the 80T. Keep up the awesome work!!

Very cool to finally see Vincent tackle the exact hardware I've got. I felt a surge of immense nerd pride every time he picked a setting that I already have. A few notes! (totally just my opinion of course): * I find that, depending on the game, bringing color from 25 up to somewhere between 30-40 can help make the colors pop out of the screen. Doing this with some games will result in oversaturation, but others it'll make it just right. * The Local Dimming options don't seem to make a difference in games. At least nothing I've been able to perceive with my eye. Huge difference for movies / TV though, and I often swap between Standard and High depending on the content. * Contrast Enhancer Off will give the most natural image for sure, but I do find that bringing it up to Low can help with some games that feature darker areas. Worth a shot if you are frustrated with things appearing too dim. * I'm very surprised by the number of times I've seen the "Warm 2" color tone recommended. I find it looks like you're slapping a crude Sepia tone filter on the image, simultaneously muting things and making them more orange than they should be. I've tried it out a couple times, but when I bring it back to Standard I'm always way happier. I wonder if maybe Warm 2 in conjunction with all of the other settings Vincent has chosen will surprise me, as there are few other things I do differently as well. * It's a relief to see him put Gamma all the way up to 3, and to see a test conducted to rationalize it! I always thought that adding to this slider produced the same kind of "artificial" brightness that Contrast Enhancer does, damaging the natural quality of the image. But now I will gladly go back and try this out. * Color Space Auto is another interesting choice. I have found I almost always go with Native. If you take yourself to a place in-game that features a lot of green (especially in something like AC Valhalla, with its trees and rolling plains) and you toggle between Auto and Native, you'll find that things look infinitely more lush and full on Native. Auto tends to rob things of their colorization. That being said!! Perhaps Auto, in conjunction with Warm 2, High Gamma and Contrast Enhancer Off, will give me a better image than I've yet seen. Can't wait to try it out. * One thing that Vincent passed over is in the External Devices menu. HDMI Black Level. In other videos I've seen him say he prefers to stick with Auto, which is likely the best choice. I have found, though, that setting this to Low can give you a crisper look. In Demon's Souls, for example, it really rounds the edges of things and makes the blacks feel super black. Just something to try out. * Vincent also always recommends HGiG, which I imagine from a professional calibration standpoint is the way to be. I've had some fun experimenting with it though. If you're trying to get your settings just right, and you can't quite get there, try disabling HGiG and running through everything again. In Spider-Man Miles Morales, for example, I was having a hell of a time getting the game to stop looking purple, or blown out, and it wasn't until I disabled HGiG that I finally found my perfect setup. Again these are just some thoughts! I obviously have nowhere near the professional experience that Vincent does, but I've spent the better part of two months obsessing over this TV and console so I just wanted to provide some alternative ideas. Every display is different and every model comes calibrated differently, so in case any of you aren't pleased with the way yours is looking, hopefully this gives you some inspiration for how to further play around with your settings.

For me the best settings I have found are to set Everything to standard or off. Gamma on 2, For some games dynamic contrast on and some off (COD CW seems to like it on) Then on the Xbox HDR calibration turn (HGIG on) the black level up quite a bit (until peoples eye colour and nearby objects are sufficiently bright, too much and it will make the distant sky and clouds too bright) then turn the next 2 for white calibration up until the blocks disappear (if the sky in games is too bright and washed out then turn it down until it looks ok). HGIG off for max brightness or HGIG on for certain games. I leave Dynamic contrast on low though would prefer it off if Samsung would brighten everything up a bit without it though it seems they designed the HGIG profiles and the screen seems to dim/lack of contrast without it.

So, the best I can get from the PS5 is YUV422 when the resolution is set to 3840 x 2160 at 60 Hz. But, I was able to use your Samsung settings in my TV as well. My question, however, is that the games themselves (such as Ghost of Tsushima) has its own Display Settings menu which includes a Brightness and UI Brightness (HDR) setting. What am I supposed to set these to?

This TV has some pretty underrated gaming features (dynamic black equalizer is awesome on competitive games with dark areas, and the game motion plus removes alot of the judder on low framerate games)
@JeffZ10284 жыл бұрын
You mean to turn up the brightness in order to see in dark areas? I'd only recommend game motion plus for story based games as that added input delay makes games feel really sluggish.
@SKLLZTHATKILLZ4 жыл бұрын
@@JeffZ1028 I am super particular to input lag. I would never use it for a FPS game but on cyberpunk and ghost of tsushima it is great.. (reason why it is okay with cyberpunkis the controls are horrible, adding input lag doesn't really affect the feel) - also the change in input lag is still better than most TVs (its only 25ms as opposed to the 6ms in 4k120hz mode) and yes to increase the brightness in dark areas (specifically the night time mode on Warzone this helped alot) you could change the brightness in game but this is a quick and easy setting to use that helps specifically dark areas and requires no altering of any other settings.
@JeffZ10284 жыл бұрын
@@SKLLZTHATKILLZ I had issues with Cyberpunk's controls as well but after messing a bit with the settings it feels like a VERY solid fps and the guns feel 10x better. Fine tuning it to your liking can make a HUGE difference in my opinion, seriously, it felt really sluggish to me at first as well. I suggest turning down the "Turning Ramp-up Time" and try out the different "Response Curve" options to see which one feels good to you. That input delay isn't bad at all but it can make aiming in shooters feel "off" if ever so slightly but I'd probably use it for Cyberpunk as well unless I was on the next gen consoles or pc with 60fps of course.

Still having trouble. 2020 Q95T 65" running firmware 1461 with Xbox Series X (also issues with PC and a 3090). I can have it running in 120hz VRR with HDR but some games (especially Cyberpunk 2077) consistently put the TV in a loop where it doesn't know what the input should be, so I get the little loading circle, I found that this is WAY worse if you have it in Auto for game mode as it just keeps saying Game mode on and off, over and over. I have tested this with Destiny 2, Forza 7, F1 2019 and I keep getting issue, I am using the only HDMI 2.1 cable I have which is the one that came with the Xbox Series X, this could be an issue.. When trying to run my PC at 2160p 120hz, VRR (G-Sync) with HDR it looks ok in Windows but when I load a game it just shows distortion across the entire screen (similar to when using a cheap HDMI cable back in the day..). I will keep playing with it I guess, all my issues go away if I set the Xbox to 60hz (leaving VRR and HDR on) or setting the PC to 100hz (leaving G-Sync and HDR on), I can also fix the Xbox issue with disabling HDR (leaving it in 120hz, VRR..).

You should do that -after- you engaged HGIG. Because otherwise you calibrate your Console+TV-Combo in a mode that you will not use. HGIG is a function to tell the TV not to "touch" anything about the tone mapping the console is putting out.

Hi Vincent such an amazing video thank you. I would like to add for those having issues with the scan lines I have found a way to remove them and still maintain picture quality. Put game motion plus on and then set blur reduction to 0 and judder reduction to 1. The reason you should set judder reduction to 1 is to maintain the colour of the initial picture as for some reason it discolours the image when judder reduction is set to 0. It’s even more dark on Xbox series x and for some reason when I start a game the picture settings change. I have an Q80T and I’m in the USA. Great videos btw. I have the same TV and Series X as you. The washed out thing was fixed by a combination of a few things. On Q80T > General > External Device Manager > Make sure Auto Black Level is set to Auto. On Color Space settings, like he says in the vid, make sure it is Auto. On the X Box itself choose the standard color space (the other option says RGB, but thats not the RGB chroma people think it is, Vincent explains it in another video). You should notice the screen is way much more "solid" looking. Then you can do the gamma +3 and it lightens up nice while still not looking washed out. After all that is done, you can recalibrate the Xbox HDR settings (from vincents other video) with the Black level 0 or 1, and 14 clicks for both Brightness settings and most HDR will look great in HGIG. (well unless its tone mapped like Cyberpunk, that one has an in game tuning that you have to dial in on top of everything else). It worked for me.

When it comes to SDR Games from my own experience, (most) Games are created on a ~2.2 sRGB calibrated Display. BT.1886 would work good enough, when it is good calibrated and the lower Grayscale is bright enough. But BT.1886 on Samsung TVs is more from dark to bright, specially in Game Modes (lower Grayscaler starts at 2.6 / 5 ~) which is not good. But of course this can vary between Units and Countrys. So if you have a Colorimeter i would focus on 2.2 Gamma, 200 Nits with LD Low. Work with Contrast, Brightness, Gamma and Shadow detail to get it to the closest AVG 2.2. On the new Neo QLEDs better also for HDR LD Low, because Samsung uses a aggressivly Dimming when it comes to Game HUDs (behind dark, not black (!) and greyish backgrounds), which can discolorade these smaller objects. And keep in mind that the ST2084 Slider gives u different results on newer models (here they are too bright and u have to lower it to -2 / -3 with LD High, and highering too ~ +2 and +1 Shadow Detail with LD Low). But better look for a Colorimeter like x rite i one (display is also an option when u use HCFR which is for free).

@@damian2779 The only way to eliminate this problem is using Local Dimming Low. User "Da-Iken" has different type of settings, also with local Dimming Low! For SDR and also for HDR Local dimming Lol when it comes to Gaming. Only for Movies LD Standard in SDR and LD High for HDR in Movie / Filmmaker. here the discoloration is not that distracting... Otherwise send the TV back and go for OLED! His settings give you the most accurate image, colors are not supposed to look cartoony and over saturated, people complain about this for HDR, no matter what brand the tv is, natural colors are not over saturated and nuclear looking. HDR is supposed to give you the most life like colors, if you think the image is supposed to be blown out with colors, watch rec709 content with bt2020 enabled, you'll see how bad it is. He also noted that the Samsung tv will wash a bit of the colors out in general because its just how Samsung builds a tv, the last Samsung I owned was the Q8FN and it gave me nothing but trouble, I had this dark purple tint across the whole border of the screen and the dirty screen effect was horrendous. I see that you also have those scrolling gray bars moving from the bottom of the screen to the top. How can this problem be resolved? It drives me crazy in some games and in the xbox menus.

It is called dse and it varies from panel to panel. Cant be fixed unfortunately unless you switch the panel.

Please let me know if its good to use these settings for Q80R / Q85R / Q90R ??? :)

Would the Q90r (2019) be the same?
@aaronajbird074 жыл бұрын
I think the q90r would be different cause the q90r has a different/brighter Contrast ratio, but allot of the setting would be the same, the adjustments would be different on the Ps5 HDR ajustments

@@Abudness I have a Q70R and set mine almost identical for Cyberpunk 2077. The only thing I didn't have the same and haven't tried yet is gamma at +3. The biggest change was when I set the black level to 0. It made a huge difference in the game. Also color tone at warm 2 looks better than others.

@@timbrewster1742 did you notice hdr is too dim when it's on vs off?
@timbrewster17424 жыл бұрын
@@Abudness I'm running the game with HDR on and it looks better with these settings. Originally my black level was set at 4 and my color tone was cool. Just going to warm 2 and zero made a huge difference. HDR in game is set at 650, 100, and 1 respectively. Not sure if this is what you were asking but hope it helps.

Hello, super video. You're great. I want to ask, can I use this setting together with hdr calibration settings (680->1000nits) on this TV that you posted a few days ago ? And does it work well on all games? Thanks for the reply. Happy holidays to you and your family
