I will sell it off once I don’t need it. I use it for work. This will be the only and last iPhone I will own. I already have a Samsung S23 (personal use) and the Google Pixel 8 for traveling and gaming. It’s perfect for both and I don’t have to worry about draining my Samsung’s battery on the GP8. $1,300 dollars per iPhone? No way! Have you seen the rental, gasoline and food prices? 💸💸💸💸💸

Super good. As a long time Apple Fanboy (80ies) I was not aware of some things you mentioned. Great research. For the Intel vs M4: well it is a different architecture so a lot on the board is different. But for the point of illustration: yes, it would be nice to swap the CPU for a faster one of the same architecture at a later point. I did that back for my PowerPC chips in the Macs.
@AyaWetts15 күн бұрын
its like 85% of the cost on the whole board ... and so much wasted space trying to make it big enough for sockets. Even new Intel chips made similarly are not replaceable or upgradable.
@trevorelvis135515 күн бұрын
Hi fanboi
@username776315 күн бұрын
@@AyaWetts This is not a difficult problem to solve though. Instead of swapping out the CPU, swap out the logic board. Support taking your M1 Mac and put a M4 logic board in. Also, Apple computers don't have to be so super thin all the time. Make portable computer where space is at a premium and then make desktops that you can upgrade. None of this is done because Apple makes money off of people disposing of their products and buying all new again.
@AyaWetts15 күн бұрын
@@username7763 You are in the minority about making small thin and light computers. Most people love that. Apple knows it cannot please everyone, so it chooses its audience where it thinks it can make the most money. New designs being able to fit in the old cases is very limiting. It sounds like Framework laptops are for you, but even they struggle, and aren't that popular.

The non-standard SSD is just a throwback to the Mac mini 2014 and the trashcan Mac. OWC did make a small number of drives that would work in the systems and I even bought one. But it didn’t work very well. I had lots of problems. It was probably cheaper for Apple to do it this way than to solder them to the motherboard.
@ybfxtv14 күн бұрын
Sure, here’s a version closer to the original wording: One big issue is the lack of upgrades for devices older than six years, which automatically makes them obsolete. This happens even though they may have more-than-capable CPUs and other hardware. Without updates, these devices are left behind, even though they could still perform well with modern software.

If only it was just that... 7 years ago I had an iMac, top of the line... Problem is, it was restarting randomly.. Sometimes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 1 hour... I obvisouly formated the thing and reinstalled OSX, several different versions, but no luck... I went to the apple store, they said the machine was 5 years old and was considered "Vintage" (their word) and so impossible to repair. I vowed (very vocally in the store) to never buy an Apple product ever again, went home, installed windws 10 on the thing to tets it out... And my son is still using the damn thing to this day, without any problem... So, the only explanation I have is that OSX creates ghost hardware failures artificially when the iMac goes to "vintage" terriotory to force you to buy a new one. I kept true to my word and never braught their crap again.
