Күн бұрын

On November 03, 1997, to coincide with the Dutch translation of his international bestseller The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, political scientist Samuel Huntington lectured at the John Adams Institute. Huntington wrote The Clash of Civilizations as a result of an article published in Foreign Affairs in 1993, in which he argues that all future conflicts will occur at the boundaries between different cultures and civilizations. His theory evoked so much response that he decided to work out his arguments and to publish them in book form. In the book, huntington takes an even more drastic stand: the image of a universally Western oriented world in development is misplaced, arrogant, untrue and dangerous. Huntington contends that some great cultures, such as the Islamic and the Confucian, will continue to exist in rivalry with Western cultures. This clashes with the Western drive to spread its own culture, and will lead to confrontations of cultural origin. Samuel Huntington was Professor of International Politics at Harvard University, where he also headed the John M. Olin Institute for Strategic Studies.
Samuel Huntington died in 2008, at the age of 81.

Imagine there's no heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us, only sky Imagine all the people Livin' for today Ah Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people Livin' life in peace You You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people Sharing all the world You You may say I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will live as one

Imagining is no virtue to understanding why things are the way they are and adapting to actually progress forward. Its evasion of responsibility and nothing else.

@@papyrustheroyalguardsmen3446 Hitler was the exact opposite of the “civilization conflict” that Huntington is alluding to in his thesis. Hitler’s wars with the west and the USSR was entirely ideological-fascism vs communism vs capitalism. Hitler actually was very complimentary of the Islamic civilization/culture.

@Papyrus the royal guardsmen Hi, hope you're doing well :) I hope you are open to discuss your comment with me a little and I ask this because there are a lot of people on the internet that take every kind of discussion personally. I don't think that Hitler stands for that process of awakening that Huntington describes. Actually, in my opinion he didn't even wake the west up but made the situation worse, but that is a different topic. For me Huntington's approach says that the west should unite with the US to not be destroyed. Hitler did the exact opposite by letting the Germans fight against other countries of the western culture. He didn't try to keep the western population together and made them cooperate based on their similar culture. He tried to destroy the culture from the inside by tearing the countries apart from each other. Ok, he also fought against the other cultures which fits to Huntington's thesis again, but still I do believe that he is not a good example of Huntington's awakening of the west. I'm looking forward to your opinion and apologize for any English mistakes I made, I'm a German student so please correct me!
