In wood boat building it is called Chemotherapy for wood rot

what was your reasoning with using two different sources : Borax and Boric Acid ?

My understanding is that boron is the key to preserving wood against rot and bugs. I don't have a definitive answer for using both but I believe one form is basic and one is acidic - using both may create a solution that does not crystalize as quickly when mixed with water prior to application... not completely sure though. It may also improve stability and shelf life once it is cooked up (so far the syrup shows no signs of having an expiration date).

Boric acid is stronger

Nice video but I have a question.....You mixed 2 gal of 100% green antifreeze with (1) box of borax and(2) bags of boric acid correct? Antifreeze weighs about 18.25 lbs + 4 lbs of Borax + 3 lbs of Boric acid = about 25 lbs How did you get 32lbs? And it looks like you recovered about 2-1/2 gallons of your mixture, correct? I am going to make this and I just wanna be sure...Thank you!

I had to go back through my notes. At the end of the video I have some references kzbin.info/www/bejne/eH-QeYGDZZmhrKs&si=nPJBtU8aBKZKHAt3 I used 8.6lb borax, 5.9lb boric acid, 2 gal 100% ethylene glycol (which I couldn’t find an exact weight for but just over 9lb/gal sounds right). Set up a fan, wear glasses, and good luck.

But the next turkey will taste particularly good. :) I would be very careful with boric acid. Greetings from Berlin

I will try to boil during better weather next time… and that pot is never getting used for food cooking ever again; I’m getting older - I’m entering the smoked meat life phase now 😉

@@samuelwiltzius I started cold smoking ham and salami 5 years ago. There is nothing that tastes better.
