Im struggling to decide whether to go with the sayang 35mm 1.4 or the sayang 35mm 1.8. They are currently both around 320$. I am wondering if the 1.4 extra light is worth the much bulkier build, will it really help that much in night time photography and is it sharper. Or should I go with the small compact 35mm 1.8?? to put on my Sony a7iv?
@DustinAbbottTWI2 жыл бұрын
Of those two lenses, I personally though the 35mm F1.8 the better choice. Much more compact, better features, better AF

Have you gotten to use it a little more? My copy sometimes has purple fringing in high-contrast scenes. It’s not every high contrast scene, so I haven’t figured out exactly how to reproduce it, and when it happens it’s only really noticeable when you zoom in, which makes it harder to detect. I only stumbled across it because I was trying to crop in on one of my images. Not a huge deal, but I was curious to know whether it’s a copy thing or if others were experiencing the same. Either way, this lens has performed very very well for me even in many high-contrast scenes. So, besides that occasional fringing that I haven’t figured out yet, I have no complaints. I am just so shocked by how well it performs. Worth every single penny.
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
It does have some fringing on rare occasions, but like you say, it's not frequent enough to be a real challenge.
@lukc4 жыл бұрын
How do you think this compares (other than the obvious focal length difference) to their own 45 f1.8 in regards to sharpness, contrast, rendering and AF?
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
The 45mm is a little sharper up to F2.8. AF speed is similar, with a slight edge to the 35mm.
@senthilrajac85964 жыл бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI past one week I'm using this 35mm 1.8 comparing 45mm AF is definitely fast and image quality also better in 1.8 compare to 45mm @1.8, Both lens are sharp from F2, over all my intensive test 35mm 1.8 worth for the money than 45mm. In india both are selling at the same price.

Thanks for the last part! I was seeing if it was worth selling my Samyang 35mm f1.4 and buy this instead because I hate how big and heavy it is. Looks like I'm gonna follow through with that and buy this one

Hi Dustin, great content as usual. Torn between this and the Sony - it looks like Sony has the edge in close-focusing which could be a dealbreaker for on-the-fly portraiture with the 7C (I have the beastly Sigma 1.2 for work, but it’s no carry-around!) Which 1.8 do you think has the edge?
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
The Sony is definitely better up close, though the Samyang is a lighter and sharper...which could be a factor if you already own the big Sigma.

I can’t decide between Samyang 35mm f1.4 mk 2 and Samyang 35mm 1.8. I n the favor of the first is the apeture of 1.4 but the 1.8 is much smaller, lighter and easier to use because of that. Which one would you prefer in terms if autofocus and image quality?

Hey dustin, thank you for the review, i'm stuck for a 35mm for my a9... i'm looking at this lens aswell as tge sigma art 35mm f1.4... what's your thoughts between these two lenses?
@ChristopherAndreou4 жыл бұрын
The Art will definitely have an edge over the Samyang - faster glass, sharp IQ, better build quality but with the tradeoff of size and weight. I would get the 1.8 for portability, the 1.4 for more serious work (or if you don’t mind the added bulk). Alternatively, go with the best (IMO) 35mm currently available, the Sigma’s enormous 1.2.
@themarksmanABP4 жыл бұрын
@@ChristopherAndreou thanks for the input, I've considered the 1.2 and also the 40mm 1.4... I think the 35mm 1.4 will be plenty for me though for my uses, my main lenses are the 135 1.8 g master and the 200-600... the 35 1.4 is for environmental portraiture of dogs just to give me a totally different perspective that's all. A few wide shots in nice locations. The price difference may make it hard to justify the 1.2 given that it's only an extra third stop of light over 1.4... choices lol
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
The input from Christopher is sound, though I might add that the Sigma 35mm F1.4 is NOT designed for Sony FE, but is internally adapted for the FE mount and focus system. The downside is that focus reliability is not as good as native glass and that the sound of focus is a bit louder (more of an issue for video). That's not to say that focus is bad at all, but in my tests of about 4 of the adapted FE lenses, I didn't find AF accuracy quite as good as the Sigma lenses directly designed for Sony (the DN lenses, like the 35mm F1.2)
@themarksmanABP4 жыл бұрын
@@DustinAbbottTWI ah yes of course! I will sell my tamron 70-180 to fund the purchase of the 35 1.2 as it will get little use now, the 135 is outstandingly good, it deserved your glowing review Dustin. Thank you for all you do for the community and your input, it is valuable and appreciated.

I do a live stream of Pinball every sunday evening and it is my lens of choice being the perfect focual range and the image it creates is amazing.
