Been to both San Francisco and Rothesay, sweet Rothesay bay every time xxx

My home town. My Aunt lived in a house at the top of the serpentine at Canada hill. Spent many hours playing in the fields up there and collecting field mushrooms with my Uncle.

since I'm from over the pond - I have been to San Fran AND went down Lombard Street. But it was many years ago Live in Minnesota now about two thousand miles away. They do not have public bathrooms, ducks, or chickens either on Lombard Street, but they do have dogs. Great video - love going with you to these spots. When I was in Europe we did not get to Scotland. Hoping to get back there for a visit and I will ad Rothesay to my list. ATB

Thanks for your comment. Overall I think San Francisco would be warmer than Rothesay, but I believe when the fog rolls in, SF can be a bitterly cold place.

You must try and Visit Etrick Bay in the summer it is actually on the opposite side of the island but I do know there is a bus service. You will find a tea room and one of the UK's most beautiful beaches. I love Rothseay..

So true! Been there. Spent many a happy childhood there. My Uncle had a wee holiday flat in Port Bannatyne.

As a local born & bred on the Isle of Bute, that wasn't Canada hill unfortunately, you have walked up the dirt track through the golf course, before you get to the gate that takes you into the dirt track you want to follow the road round to the left where you will see a bench on the left-hand side of the road this area is Canada hill, families would stand here watching their loved ones depart Rothesay Bay.

No contest - Lombard Street every time! Drove down it some years ago and it was so scenic - flowers all the way down. Didn’t see many in Serpentine Road! You need to go there Scott. Great touring California, Utah, Colorado, Grand Canyon and of course the marmite town - Las Vegas!

That was very good with lots of interesting notes ...... and the best set of urinals on any travel channel! Thank you.

I did think twice about the toilets, but I thought, if they weren't being used, what harm would there be. Just as I was finishing the last shot, a man came in, with a nervous look on his face. That was my cue to leave!

Very interesting, we are going there on holiday soon. Will be avoiding that Serpentine Road road in our Motorhome, but will be staying at the caravan site at the top.

Brilliant video, brought back so many happy memories for me when I visited Rothesay while I was a wee girl in 70s and early 80s. Cycling, swimming, horse riding, cinema and of course Zavaroni fish and chips. Your videos are so interesting and very helpful. Hope to see many more. Maybe trip to Morecambe? Take care 🤗

Just got back from a trip around Bute, Cowal, Kintyre, Mull, Iona and Staffa. Driving up and back down Serpentine Road was one of the highlights of my trip as most things including restaurants and the castle were closed in Rothesay.

I was there a couple of nights. Was impressed by the stupendous quantity of pubs. Rothesay is a strange amalgam of Blackpool and Broughty Ferry. But the beaches on the west coast were pretty amazing.

My Dad grew up in Canada Cottage on Canada hill, to get to school he would often cycle down Serpentine road, never heard his stories about going back up the hill, for sure not something many people would enjoy 😅

Vale! Ferry efficient. It took 40 minutes to check ino vitroria hotel. Room quaintly furrniished, bath a mess. Bar and resto clears half Reston closed. All nescafffy. Had a mundane sandwich at bus stop. A nightmare.

I was there just as the local school finished for the day. A few of the kids actually cycled up the hill, and two chose to walk the length instead of using the steps. They were definitely fitter than me!

I used to live at the top of Serpentine Road (known locally as the Zig-Zag). You can see my childhood home at 3:44 - the house at the top with the triangular roof window.

I say, Rothesay, is worthy of a visit, if I do say so myself. That Victorian lavatory is beautiful. Now, I've never, ever, said that about a lavatory, or a toilet, or a rest room, or a dunny, or a bathroom before. Other buildings are grand as well. Scott, you've got San Francisco on your bucket list. But I now have Rothesay on my mucket list.

The "preserved toilet" is in fact a pumphouse building. It does pump waste however, so youre not completely wrong!

Hi and thanks for your comment. I had a look on an online Victorian map when editing the video, and it was described on one map as a toilet, but as you say, both terms cross over, don't they!

I would rather be in San Fran today that's for sure, however your excellent video of the Serpentine and views from Canada Hill help me to appreciate the place where I have been an incomer for a few years now.

Cosa vi dico? Went on school trip do Rothesay baths. Couldn’t swim. In Palma found myself automatically swimming. Contemplating now spending few days in Rothesay for quietness. Spent 3 hours New York, U.S. means nothing to me. Very fine explanation, hullabaloo wi local mask, bis bald.

ok, very entertaning. It toook us 40 mins to check in. Half restos/shops closed. Shops a relic of antiquity. Told to bring own drink into rest. Everywheree, nescaffy. Scotch food completely dominant. Restos seemed to close at 8pm. Doldrums to us.Returning? Neanche per sogno.
