The need for the 36mm version isn't because the 39mm case is too big, it's the fact that the dial is just too big. There is too much empty space on the dial and a 36mm version will just bring everything a little closer while not making it look like a dinner plate on your wrist.

Thank you for watching Teddy. Glad you enjoyed it. Agreed, this is the piece many collectors wanted Steinhart, and other brands to make; an excellent quality/value Explorer homage in 39mm. This is the first San Martin I have handled; and I am really impressed with it overall. It gets many things correct that other brands don't. Regards, #WR4K

Fantastic review, and spot on. I have the sterile version, and it has not left my wrist since I received it. I've had it off the bracelet, on a riveted bracelet, on Natos and pass through straps, on rubber and on leather and it looks fantastic on all of them. Wears very well on my 7.5 inch wrist, and off the bracelet it does lessen the presence on the wrist, for those that worry that the just at 39mm is too big for a 1016 homage. An incredible value for the money. Just subscribed, looking forward to more reviews!

Excellent review as always. I really must start paying closer attention to San Martin ... what a quality watch! I made the mistake once of buying a sterile homage, but San Martin seem to have nailed it with their branding and appears to add value to the piece. Finally, I find it really refreshing to look at reviews that are all about the watch and not all about the reviewer!

Full Marks to San Martin for producing a watch that fits your wrist, John, and for a price that is less than the two extra links that you had to buy for for your Datejust from Rolex. Could this be the second watch in your collection? As always I enjoyed your review.

I always regulate my automatic watches to around -10 sec when fully wound because when the watch gets unwound during night it will be around +10 sec in the morning. That makes the watch stay at around + - 0 sec a day for me.

Beautiful watch , , i agree with you , you can not fault this watch , they really put some thought and effort into it , , , but , , , unlike you i have one complaint or maybe just a piece of advice for ALL watch makers that may be listening/viewing , and that is the case-back , , , why is it not clear ? , , you just know that with all the work , effort and thought that went into this watch the internal workings of the movement is going to look as amazing as the outside , , , i do not understand why they would not want to show it off , , , you know while wearing a piece like this people are going to notice it and comment on it and when this occurs in some instances you may take it off to show it and people are going to look at the front and the back and what better way to display completely a watch like this then with the addition of a clear case-back , , , in my opinion i think all watches should have a clear case-backs , , , it really should be a standard in the watch industry .
@watchreviews4k3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Jason. Glad you enjoyed it. Agreed, an exhibition case back would be an enhancement; and more interesting to look at than the sterile solid one. I also like to see the movement, even if it is just a Seiko NH35A. This is something I like about Pagani Design watches such as the PD-1661, the screw down exhibition case back is well done. As this SN020 is only 12.5mm thick (with 100 metres water resistance); it should be possible to fit an exhibition case back without increasing the thickness to 13mm etc. Regards, #WR4K

If they make a 36mm version then this will be one of the better 1016 homages at a modest price. For me, it needs drilled lugs though and domed acrylic to finish it off. But, that is nit picking. I bought a Tiger Concept 1016 and love it, despite the terrible water resistance rating - 50m. I've heard it'll likely be fine to swim with but the seller doesn't guarantee it. I also wish it had a Seiko derived movement rather than the DG2813 Miyota compatible one. Looks like the San Martin also has a better clasp. At the time I bought the Tiger Concept unit it was the best match for a 36mm homage that had the details I wanted and that didn't cost too much money. In short, I will be adding a San Martin 1016 homage to the list of future watches.
@watchreviews4k2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. San Martin will be making a 36mm version with 9, 6, 3, Explorer dial using the PT5000 (as the NH35A is too large). However it will use BGW9 rather than patina lume; and applied hex logo rather than "San Martin". Acrylic isn't popular with the majority of the market; hence sapphire crystal with AR being used. What are your thoughts on the sterile version of this? One reviewer mentioned that the white lettering clashed with the color of the dials.
@watchreviews4k2 жыл бұрын
I prefer the branded dial versions. I find the colour contrast to be good. However I would prefer San Martin would use glossy black dials, rather than matte black. In daylight the matte black dials can look a dark grey. Glossy black would improve the contrast. Regards, #WR4K

Wonderful review, please be careful with calling it an 'Explorer' despite that being exactly what it is. Apparently that is a trademarked term and will invoke the rage of the Swiss.
@watchreviews4k3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching Eugene. Glad you enjoyed it. See video title "Explorer Homage". Also in my review I have been careful to always use the term "Explorer Homage" rather than "Explorer". Yes, "Explorer" is a trademark of Rolex SA Geneva; therefore naming a watch an "Explorer" (if not made by Rolex) is trademark infringement. However it is not trademark infringement to call a watch an "Explorer homage". Regards, #WR4K

I'm almost starting to believe he gets a kickback for every watch sold based on the fact that this "review" is 99,9% praise and 0,1% criticism. And the fact that the wristshot is being at angle where it is impossible to judge the watch size against his 8" wrist.
@watchreviews4k2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. I do not receive a kickback for every watch sold. This content "Includes Paid Promotion" as per the message in the top left of the screen at the start of the video. That means a brand has either gifted me the piece, or paid me to review the piece (or both). As a reviewer if I give a positive review; I am accused of being a paid shill for the brand. If I give a negative review; I am accused of being biased against the brand. So you see I receive criticism from viewers regardless of what review I give. I make no secret of the fact my channels revenues comes from; Google AdSense revenue, brand payments, and the proceeds of sales of gifted watches. Unlike many other watch channels; I have a policy of not accepting Paypal, and Patreon, donations from viewers. Regards, #WR4K
