I recall Yu Da Wei having fought in another Sanda vs Muay Thai event but not sure which one. The only thing that I remembered very clearly is this guy have no fighting spirit. Bunhom is known as Pathawachai on this site www.angelfire.com/sd2/kingofsa.... I went with the name Bunhom as that was his name on the video. I don't know who is right. According to the previous site, he's a seasoned veteran with over 80 fights. He sure fights like a veteran. One of the rare Muay Thai fighters I've seen that can nullify the sanda throws and takedowns and consistently counter with knees. Great fighter.

Well, we all knows Thais don't have much more of a strategy than enduring punishment and keep going forward, like a train... But that's not necessarily good and that's why Thais are often retired at 25. San Da is more tactic in that aspect: Sometimes go forward, sometimes withdraw to make the adversary attack and use that against him. I've seen fights won by Thais where Chinese were demolished and vice versa.

@unimaculata : I cannot agree with you and I'll explain why. Muay Thai is not just striking. It has excellent throws too. You cant grab by the torso but you can throw by the neck and you can sweep or takedown grabbing a kicking leg. Also, Thais are allowed to use knees and elbows in a way that Sanda fighters are not used to. Because these fights have unified rules (catch all rules) I think that all in all none of the fighters is in disadvantage and it's pretty balanced. Just my opinion. ;)

nope its unified rules not sanda rules. so they both have advantages and disadvantages. and lemme educate u on sanda, you see sanda was created in the military and it was based on the most effective Chinese martial arts. they eventually made a sport out of it since kung fu didnt have a sport. it has nothing to do with muay thai. so it is completely chinese. and sanda defeats muay thai FAIRLY 7/10 times.

Saying Liu Hai Long never won by standing and striking, is like saying Thais never win without using knees and elbows. We all know these are different arts and while Muay Thai favors 90% striking and 10% throwing, San Da favours 50% striking 50% throwing. It's not a very pertinent thing to say that an athlete from San Da never won fighting like Muay Thai. Of course he will not mmitate Thais... He will use San Da Arsenal. I don't expect Thais to win with throws either!..

you can claim it as much as you want, but the facts are facts. and sanda is a kung fu hybrid. that argument is closed. and yeah i can say the same thing bout muay thai fighters only winning in thailand, but what can i base that on. nothing. just like your claim. most challenges are initiated by the thai's, so most sanda wins against mt are in thailand. as for fighting top champs, well most style vs style fights are amateur fights. champions only fight on major promotions.
