Again I don't know much about Han Lei. He must at least have been a weight champion in sanda.
Samkor is a top Thai fighter who fights mostly overseas these days. He's known for his left roundhouse kick!

Agree there is no cowardice in playing to your strengths. BUT anyone without bias can see that, even with all the takedowns and throws Samkor 1) heavily outscored Han Lei and 2) inflicted all the damage and took almost none. Everytime Han grabbed that leg, he first had to take Samkor's brutal middlekick. And then there were the unanswered knees, elbows and middlekicks... rounds 4 and 5 were actually the ones where Han took the worst beating.

the fundamental fact is that while Han Lei's counter to the leg is effective, he could only catch so many kicks. And even when he was successful, his counters did not hurt Samkor in the ring (on concrete would be a different story), while Samkor's kicks that Han Lei did not catch probably hurt - a lot.

+funkyboodah actually not true.. the kicks did not hurt the china guy.. its a basic sanda catch where one hand is used to guard your ribs or head and the other hand scoops over the kick and then does a twisting motion to bring the guy down

samkor has great kicks like all thai fighters, The chinese guy did a good ass job though. I was hoping the chinese would win but hey, thai has the strongest kicks. Chinese fighters are new to sport fighting, they are doing good. In time, we'll see more chinese fighters.

Notice the throw was smooth. It is not easy to keep a calm mind while getting kicked constantly. Both styles of fighting has a different philosophy. in Muay Thai you have to be hard and tough, they train from a young age and have excellent striking coordination. Sanshou relies on using the whole, different strikes and positioning. Sanshou's aim is to be silent and calm. Suddenly attacking during winning or losing positions. Muay Thai requires good stamina and state. You got to respect all.

Its VERY easy to take him down with a double or single leg tak down but to lift him up and suplex him is almost impossible like what you see in sanda (suple/bodyslam) ,unless your overeem or brock lesnar that have a monster body then you could life him high up and throw him like the sanda takedown. Agree. Im Chinese. This Sanda match in China is tailored for the Chinese people to watch. To be fair, they should prohibit take down to score points. How can you prohibit a Muay Thai fighter not to use elbow.

9:05 - Just being fair. In my opinion Han Lei is a very strong Sanda fighters, I don't think many people noticed but rather than using the turning kick, Han Lei was using the side kick constantly and some of the kicks did connect hard when the Samkor charged inwards towards Han Lei.- 0:44 Knees was also allowed in the match.- 0:22 Kicks was also allowed to the head.- 1:51 However do not mistake me, I practice both arts and I think that both fighters are great in their sport. Yea i know but the reason im saying that is because im trying to explain one guy that previously comented that elbows are more useless than a overhead suplex so thats why i say to him its impossible to do that move ,suplex in a real fight esp if the person is bigger than you, but if hes the same size then yes you can do it. But the single/double leg TD ,90-10% of the time it works, even someone 10x ur size, like in 1 vid of a japanese guy vs yasborough ,he won wif a single leg TD,MMA 2 uses it

Most of the Sanda takedowns are double or single legs from catching kicks, like in this video. Also, inside trips and a number of other takedowns can also be easily done on people of any size.

I give the chinese some props since I can't believe he's still standing after taking all those brutal kicks. Although he caught the kick for throwdowns, it was always after taking a brutal kick. Samkor won this based on who inflicted the most damage. the judges must be chinese. also, the ones who contend Lei won this are mostly chinese or those into kung fu.

The rules here is unified rule based on point scoring, not on damage. There is no bias here, Han LEi won through the sheer amount of takedowns

the point is, does he know what to do afterward? Does he train in ground fighting? Does he practice armbars and chokes ? The best he can do is attack him while hes on the ground, and even then you need sufficient training on both sides

a hard dump on concrete followed by stomps with shoes on will end a fight without the need for ground games. The whole point of sanda is to remain standing after dumping them on the ground.

I think Sanshou fighters are fight by finding empty spaces and hitting from different positions and different attacks. Muay Thai however focuses on power and conditioning. 0:55 The Samkor was making Han Lei eat kicks, Han Lei did eat kicks but maintained a calm mind which is the key to Sanda, not power but flow. 2Throw during punishment is hard. Muay Thai and Sanda are both two very different approaches to Martial Arts, they have both unique qualities so please so not think either is better.

@bboycrowm1 Coz u keep emphasizing on takedowns so i explain the application of takedowns in a real fight. Like i said previously , what if the guy is waay heavier than the sanda guy? how would he be able to carry him up rite? he wont be coz hes too heavy. After all sanda fighters mostly wins by takedown in other words points. Also in a real fight theres no rules , 4 -5 pl can just jump on you , while MT would fair better againt 4 guys etc, sanda guys will go for throws ,

True abit, but also i notice they love(sanda guys) to do the overhead suplex throw which requires alot of energy and in long run its not good coz it drins stamina fast. So yea if they stick to the leg catches and sngle leg takedowns then its good coz form the leg catch they could just kcik the persons other leg and he will fall down naturally even if hes big. But to do the overhead throw, over your body,thats virtually impossible to do against a bigger perosn that you esp a very fat guy. thx man

I dont think that there stupid rules, just different. Obviously, normall Muai Thai would be more devastating in Standup, although sanda fighters are taught to fight under the same terms. Difference is the level of the fighter fighting, if one is obviously better, then the outcome, whatever the circusmtances, is unlikely to change.

Hai if the floor was concrete and you get spear tackled down with an elbow onto your rib cage, how much conditioning would you have to do to that one area to stop being injured? But I might as well use my whole energy and the density of the ground to create the same injury elsewhere? But then again you may start to train harder for these... See? There is also opportunity for Samkor to do damage at the ground, the one on top is not always the one thats going to win. Also I see obvious little clinch time which could have been over for for Han Lei

lol, no one does suplexes as a form of self defence. EVERY grappler will use a double or single leg and it will work all the time. One takedown is all a grappler needs to end a fight.

Han lei not bouncing around on his toes like a boxer but using universal stance from northern shalolin kungfu. It's good but he should circle and move more like Han feilong.Respect for Samkor's kicking power too.
