Wow... why not use water dust suppression on the rear of the property or use sheeting to protect innocent neighbours property ? Do you think that media / pressure was too harsh for the stone as you can seen how much wear you created on the stone more noticeable on the engraving I would have thought a chemical paint stripper. ( industrial type not off the high street ) and a low pressure hot wash would have been a better ( DOFF System ? ) Not knocking what you do ... but sometimes there is a better way ...

Dust wasn't an issue in the rear the weather changed in the afternoon so I changed my method and adapted and started using dustless. As for media/pressure yes I agree it's a very fine line between media blasting and criminal damage with what I've perviously seen. I can say with confidence that the doff wouldn't touch it I've owned a doff and before I sent it back I researched and tried all their supplied chemicals I also tried other Oceans & Potions as I tried to justify the cost of spending 10k on a glorified jet wash I probably fell for the same advertisement you have seen the videos look mega but in the real world they just don't do real jobs. I gave it a fighting chance and took it to on a lot of jobs and tried it first and always ended up reverting back to this method on this type of job. I then opted to go falch 300 bar twin burner I can say that many layers of paint your going to need some abrasive. God knows how English heritage backed the doff I find them very over priced for a 100 bar pressure washer.

@@Mobileblaster I “doff cleaning” is just the name obviously maybe they’ve been the first in market that provide “hot/steam cleaning” . In this days, ANY hot/steam cleaning can be “Doff system” , this expression can be used as a reference in this days but any cleaning system that you can play with pressure and water temperature can be a “Doff system” . However i’ve done quite a lot of exterior paint removal jobs and is far more messy when the melted paint start flying around on property than sand blasting method . Have you’ve used soda as a media for this blasting job or ultra fine glass ?

@@georgegeorge9946 yeah bit like "hovering up" or I need a "JCB" to dig a hole doff was very clever with advertising and even more so when they show before and after photos of what it can do they fail to mention the chemicals needed 1st hand for it to work effectively. I've adapted a faltch 300bar twin burner to do the steam for the very odd job that requires steam no way would I embarrasses myself turning up to a large project with such a toy like the doff 😏 yeah when you can fine a job it will actually work on the paint clear up is almost has hard again to clear up 😂 I cannot remember the media used it would have been a soft and fine media choice (possibly super fine glass) all I do remember is I was pushing my skill set to the point I was thinking about not attempting it especially when I spotted the amount of gloss layers (don't let the name dustless miss lead you its still a very messy process but fairly easy to clear away given enough time)

Stone is a natural product left as is, its as good as freshly laid it's all personal choice to seal it to try and preserve the clean look for as long as possible if im passing and remember I will definitely grab a photo 👌
@Ragnar85042 жыл бұрын
You need to keep in mind that every piece of stone used in construction was once part of a big rock, so there's no original surface to speak of. Of course some houses might have been built using stones that shouldn't have been used in the first place because they wick up water and crack due to frost. I do seem to remember reading that some very old bricks were only cooked on the surface and if you remove too much material you'll remove the softer and more porous inner part that will wick up water and crack. Once that's done you need to seal or render.
@Mobileblaster2 жыл бұрын
@@Ragnar8504 it's personal preference its not needed I don't think a builder would got to any efforts to seal the brick or stone once laid. If I clean brick or stone depending on what I'm removing will only remove a very minimal amount of the serface so I wouldn't say it would take the surface past any pre finishes. If it's just a clean or 1 layer of paint it's less than 0.5mm any pre finish should be deeper than 1mm so should be fine 👌

Why do people paint the stone or brick in the first place? The stone or brick will look good for centuries but the paint might last a few decades. I mean it’s good for business so we shouldn’t question too much.
@BusterCapInYoAss2 жыл бұрын
More often than not came down to cost. Cheaper to paint over carbon deposits or stains, rather than have it professionally cleaned, or blasted.
@JLittleVegemite2 жыл бұрын
@@BusterCapInYoAss this makes a lot of sense. Maybe it’s my bias but it seemed like quite a few of the paint removals looked like removal of fashion/design choices and I hadn’t considered soot, mold and other contamination.
@BusterCapInYoAss2 жыл бұрын
@@JLittleVegemite I'd suggest certainly the first coat of paint was maybe down to cost of restoration, but certainly further layers will, likely be changing fashions/preference.

@@BusterCapInYoAss yeah that's my theory too or some folk just simply have not got the knowledge that the stone can be cleaned and cover up is the only option. Just like when folk render brick or stone sometimes a repair and repaint is all thats needed

Vast improvement. Cannot understand the "high contrast" aesthetic. Always annoys me when the mortar is not same colour as the brick. You must exercise great restraint in not just "doing" the entire street.....On a different note do you ever remove graffiti or complete artistic paucity of "tags"; please illustrate and if you can go get a Banksy or two; it's not street art, it's in your face invasive disrespectful crime.
