In about 1979 -1981 ,I had the pleasure of backing Sandie Shaw in different venues for 14 days.May I say,what a pleasure it was for me.Sandie was lovely to be around. In fact,myself and my drummer went for a meal with her at the end of the first 7 day run.I remember after all this time.

Thanks for your comment! In Britain, Sandie Shaw is best remembered for winning the Eurovision Song Contest in 1967 with "Puppet On A String" which became a British (and European) #1 hit single. Sandie's first hit (in 1964) "There's Always Something There To Remind Me" was recorded originally by Dionne Warwick, Sandie's version reached #1 in Britain and #52 in US. Subsequent hits were "Girl Don't Come" (UK #3, US #42) and "Long Live Love" (UK#1, US#97).

Sandie was the best. Barefoot princess in the sixties but even better in the eighties. In my opinion Sandie Shaw was the best. Better than the rest of the female singers like Dusty, Lulu and Cilla. With respect.

She must have only been a superstar in the U.K., because I was born in the early 50's, grew up and followed music closely in the 60's and 70's and NEVER HEARD OF HER IN THE U.S., despite the popularity of so many British singers and groups. "Always Something There to Remind Me" was performed, but marginally. It never stood out.

+Michael Bowman You must have been living in a cave. I'm about the same age as you are, and Sandie Shaw was played very heavily on AM radio in the NYC metro area, especially "Always Something There To Remind Me" and "Girl Don't Come". You must be a country boy (AKA hillbilly).

Shaw is NOT the only British female singer to have three number one hits in the 60s. Seriously. Petula Clark had more than 3 when One counts other countries besides the UK. And . . . never heard of her before today 14 Mar 2018. I looked Shaw (thought it was Shore from the name I'd heard) and this up after viewing Petula Clark life stories posted on YT.

Petulia Clarke had a fabulous verse but a different type of singer Sandie was right for the songs she sang no comparison needed
@johnrowan4068
@johnrowan4068 4 жыл бұрын
If you're counting all the countries then Sandie had many more than 3. She was the only female to have 3 number 1's in the UK, a record which stood for 20 years.

+Brenda O'Connell She was a nice looking chick, though who commanded a lot of attention. She looked magical on stage with her tall skinny body and great hair. Statuesque, really. She had a totally different look compared to other British female singers in the 1960s.
@Catherineone
@Catherineone 8 жыл бұрын
+Brenda O'Connell I liked her songs and she was a good performer. You are correct she was a horror I remember what the judge said about her in regards to a case she was involved in lets just say it was not favourable.
@samsamsam5725
@samsamsam5725 8 жыл бұрын
+Catherineone Was she really a horror? How about the 35-year-old married man, Duncan Murdoch, who took up with her when she was barely 17? Shouldn't he have known better? Or the wife who fought a high-profile and bitter battle over costs using Legal Aid/ public money? But I guess it's so much easier to blame a teenage girl.
@samsamsam5725
@samsamsam5725 8 жыл бұрын
+Brenda O'Connell As I understand matters, it wasn't all down to her. Her manager Eve used to throw her weight around. Brian Matthews has talked about this in an interview with Bob Stanley. And why shouldn't a female star be treated a bit special. The same behaviour in men, or, indeed, much worse, is invariably lauded as good old rock 'n roll.
